Last season’s costumes were the same high waisted dresses with different fabrics. It was nice to see the varied and gorgeous costumes this season. They really put effort into the designs this year. Wow!
Those high waisted (empire waist is the term) dresses are kinda like the trademark of the Regency period. This is the same time period that Jane Austin lived and her novels are set in.
pen has a bunch of money hidden from her family anyway 🧐 the makeover was more of a personal choice, her hairstyle is just as significant and didn’t cost anything
Fr I feel like they've totally forgotten that by now pen is completely financially secure the only reason she can't leave is because she would be socially dead, she still wants colin (her symbol of acceptance into the ton as a bridgerton boy even if she doesnt realize it lord debling calls her OUT for craving acceptance in q nice way) and she still wants to live that rich life (who can blame her) god I love analyzing this show
I had to check that they had the same costume designer this season, because they’re really throwing in some curveballs. Also, does anyone else feel like there was a clearance sale on tweed? It’s summer and almost everyone is wearing some type of tweed piece.
@@LeishaAussiechick73 That additional context of HOW she broke her wrist is HILARIOUS. Not that she got hurt, obviously. I hope she is recovering well but that is a pretty silly thing to happen.
I also saw a LOT of Penelope’s colours in the background characters while others wear bridgerton colours as if there was a switch. The Featheringtons are wearing less vibrant colours going through the whole half of season 3.
Costumes are all gorgeous but what possible explanation can there be for Cressida’s extraordinary unflattering hair. If her family is watching its pennies it could surely do without the maid responsible for the complex designs. They must take hours.
with the muff I just assumed that Eloise tried to emalgamate/copy some of Cressida's style of clothing...as it really seemed "new" and up to then NOT really Eloise's style... ;)
I am sorry but Cressida has not changed as a person. We learn a bit more about her and we get to see more of her, Eloise has some impact through their friendship, but she is still a cornered animal and will attack (= be mean) if and when she is cornered or thinks she can get away with it. Especially at the last ball (episode 4) when she talks to Lord Debling and basically destroys Pen's future (as far as she knows and as Pen hopes) . She might hope to catch Lord Debling for herself (whether that is a realistic option or not) but it still seems a very spiteful and unnecessary action.
And on the note of costumes, it seems like there is too much ...the costume designers want too much. Portia's jewel colours make no sense to me, she could have been toned down in other ways, Eloise is very tame, the whole Bridgerton clan is almost too matchy matchy in their pastelly blues (Colin might be an exception), Kate meanders from a sort of coat dress in pale pink (which looks more shabby than chic ) to dark jewel colours and a ball dress that is not even vaguely Regency, feels like the costume designers have not found a formula for her yet (and yes, I know, Kate has not found her role as the new Viscountess yet, but still...). Cressida is totally over the top which presumably shows how desperate she is or her parents are, so I can kind of live with that although I think it's too much and maybe not necessary. I love watching Bridgerton, I am totally aware and accept that it is a fantasy but the costumes in S3 so far left me with a bit of ... unease. The funny feeling that they didn't get it quite right because they were trying so hard; maybe with the exception of Pen and Colin.
In Australia, and I presume England too, a Spencer is a long sleeve undergarment, worn by women. Very handy in winter and people can't tell you have a second layer on under your shirt.
there is a retail-store chain...called Marks & Spencer in London...they sell good quality underwear...amongst all other things...it is of course not the Brigderton Time period...but may be that is were the NAME Spencer for the UNDERWEAR..came from and is used in Australia now ?....whether the name Spencer (as in Family of Princes Diana) came from or wether the retail-store chain and the Family Spencer are somehow related..I do not know... ;)
@chrystal108reading4 no relation. Spencer is quite a common name (some of my ancestors were Spencers) which comes from the name of a person who dispensed household resources, a steward. (Anglo-Norman word 'espenser' (steward) and the Middle English 'spenser' from the same source.)

Not going to lie, I was not a big fan of this season's wardrobe. I know the past seasons had plenty of inaccuracies, but it was not so obvious and distracting.
@@sweettea913 they probably want each season to appear distinct. Also in-universe it's been a couple of years since Daphne's love story, their fashion is evolving and possibly not in a way the real world's fashion did

Cressida's dresses are hideous, as are her Wes Andersen-esque hairstyles. But she does provide a nice counterpoint for Eloise, who's simple & refined style shines.
They are over the top Awful, mocking her and making her ridiculous. The show might nominally be set in the early1800s but they have thrown that out of the window. Why not dress them as astronauts and call it Bridgertons in space? It would make as much sense. I can’t help thinking they are turning her into a drag act to appeal to all the drag queen fans.
I am disappointed in the series this season, just like last season the show split so much from the books, which in my opinion are better story lines...makes me sad to think a lot of people won't read the series and will miss out on wonderful stories....
Cressida's outfits and hair were WILD this season.
It was such an eyesore!
Lol...like she's from The Capitol. 😂

Cressida is a caged bird & Lord Debling’s life work is saving a bird from extinction. A coincidence? 🤔.
the jewelry the set and clothes ...I love watching it more for it. Its an eye candy.

I think Portia Featherington is lovely and how colorful her outfits are
That explains the muff🤣 thought it was strange eloise wore it in the summer and she was the only one too
It didn't even occur to me that it was summer! I just thought it was out of place in general. LOL
It was there to hide a wrist cast Claudia broke her wrist on set from doing a high kick while in costume and fell over

Elbow deep in summer muff, to quote Claudia Jessie
Also balloon inspired clothing was a thing in the late 18th century.
Yes the Spencer was created by an ancestor of Princess Diana
I love Colin’s vest in the balloon episode.

Ballon outfits, aka the BBL dress 😅
Omg this comment🤣🤣
In season 1 at the presentation to the queen, Penelope is wearing a silver dress when everyone else is wearing white. Does this have a meaning?
Maybe because in season 3 she said she was sent out a year before her debut year

It’s not “spencer” or “muff”, it’s A spencer or A muff.
A muff was not invented for Bridgerton, and they have been around for many many years!
Aunt Petunia = Penelope
The costumes were atrocious this season but I was happy for the Penelope glow up.

Too bad none of these costumes are true to the time period.
I think they went to far with the costumes this season. Some were beautiful but others just felt to much and all over the place.
Chressada clothes are terrible this season and a lot of of the costumes and not very fitting very disappointing
