Problem Solved!!! My Chisel Is Out of Square!!! Part 2

In this video I was able to troubleshoot the problem I was having and successfully freehand sharpen the chisel and keep it square. I hope this helps you too!

Never sharpened a thing before but I've wanted to get into woodworking for a while now, have bought some cheap chisels, a 5 piece set of Silverline ones to have a go with. If I mess them up its no big deal but I've noticed out the box brand new they are not square, hence how I ended up here. They are not as bad as the one you showed in your first video though so hopefully I can sort them out. Thank you for the video, apart from the lighting it was pretty good and useful.

Thanks! Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've had an extended break from YT that I didn't foresee. Just don't give up, sharpening doesn't need to be hard but it can be a little tricky. Stick with it and you'll get there (if you already haven't).Yeah, the lighting is a little better in my more recent videos and hopefully will improve over time. Thanks again!

I have an antique James swan co. Chisel driving me crazy with squareness (I'm fairly seasoned at sharpening) and it turns out that the thickness of the chisel varies from the left side to the right - dramatically (its about 20% thicker).

i struggle with this too... My 3/4 and 1/2 chisels look like skewed chisels. I didn't see you knock burr off back as you moved to second stone. You were judging second grit by first burr?

I got a plane today and had the same problem with my iron, I made two new bevels and it still didn't fix it
