You had to see my little toddler this afternoon, Miranda. He asked me who you were. I told him you are a beautiful woman who loves books very much (he too!!) and that you were showing your favorite books to him. He immediatly picked up a lot of his (Bob the builder) books and he showed every book to you, told you why he loved these books in his toddler-language and laid the books against your book on the screen. It was absolutely adorable ❤️ Thanks for your video and wonderful bookrecommendations! Greetings and love from the Netherlands.
I love hearing you speak about your favorite books from childhood and then reuniting with them again. A favorite quote of mine… “There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those spent with a favorite book.” These words are by Marcel Proust and are so true for me also.
Hi Miranda You inspired me so much. I love books always have, but I have a reading disability, so in my life time I sad to say I have not read very many books, but thank God for books on CD and now Audible. I do read when I'm able, but I love Audible. I have to have the book if I'm using audible, some how it gives me more of a connection to what I'm listening to, if that make sense. Thank you for sharing your love for books. Also I'm a Quilter, I love the quilt behind you, it's beautiful!
Yes, I did enjoy last year or before? Milne' s delightful Essays book. Thank you for mentioning it. I will search it out again, I did enjoy it so. You were lucky this haul, thanks to Mother!
Really enjoying The Secret Garden. Thank you so much for the nudge to read it. I bought it a few months ago, but have never read it. It's a wonderful springtime read. Makes you glad to be alive.
Don't you just love finding book treasures in second hand shops? Some of my very favorite books have been from these sources. Lovely video packed with wonderful suggestions!
Another lovely video, thank you! Did you know that A A Milne's short stories for adults have just been collected & published by Duckworth? Complete Short Stories of A A Milne, introduced by Gyles Brandreth. I read Salinger Year a few years ago & enjoyed it. It's a very New York story so I'm as surprised as you are that you haven’t read it! The agency is stuck in the 50s, no computers, just a Selectric typewriter. I also enjoyed the movie, Sigourney Weaver is great. I have to say, I enjoyed the office politics more than the author's personal life, but it was a very good read & watch.
Miranda I truly enjoy all your videos especially the book hauls. I find so many of your suggestions are spot on for me. Happy Spring to you and your Mum. Thanks again.
What a fabulous book haul, I am so envious! Each time I watch I find more titles to add to my ever growing TBR list! I read Went to London ... by Nina Stibbe in January and it was a hoot! I also loved Love Nina, the book and TV series although I'm not so keen on her novels, are you? Have a lovely week 😊
Dear Miranda, thank you for this lovely video. I recently completed my collection of all the "shoe" books by Noel Streatfeild, since I couldn't read them all in German as a child because only a few were translated. I always love your book haul videos very much. They are so inspiring that in the near future I'll need another bookshelf.😂 It was so so lovely meeting you and Donna yesterday on zoom, it not only only made my day but my week indeed. Have a wonderful week you two❤❤
Thank you Miranda. I am currently reading 'The Diviners by Margaret Laurence'. It about a young girl growing up in Canada just before and during WW2. A 'coming io age' novel. I love Laurence's writing abd her descriptions of the Canadian landscape.😊
I so love your book hauls! I always find several things to add to my TBR. I'm especially interested in the book of A. A. Milne essays - the Winnie the Pooh books were the first ones I could read by myself when I was little, and they still have a special place in my heart. I'm looking forward to seeing what his writing for adults is like. Thank you! ❤ 📚
Hi Miranda You get the neatest books - I envy you - Ha! They all sound fantastic and very pretty - beautiful. I hope that you will enjoy your books that you got. Sometimes I wish I lived where you and your Mom living at because you two seems to find so many Book Shops to shop at. I have read Georgette Heyer Books before and I do like them. It is a pretty hard back book and it is mine. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗📖🔰📕📚☕️🍪☕️❤️
Thank you Miranda for such an interesting & varied book haul as always! I love the thought of your lovely mum trawling the charity shops to add to your collection. I understand and relate to your pleasure in replacing books that have been lost in house moves. We moved many times when i was growing up, and books would sometimes be lost in the process. In addition, we had some of our belongings stolen whilst in storage, among them a big box of my books. Part of my book loving soul still grieves that loss, I remember the lost books so well! Thank you for everything you do. My life would be less the rich without your channel. ❤
Oh, I completely understand Penny - we had some belongings stolen during a move once, and we still miss them!!! I am really pleased to be finally replacing some lost childhood books. Thank you so much for your lovely words and support ❤️
Lovely book haul Miranda. I am just having so much fun going round the charity shops and have already built a pretty good library of classics etc. So enjoy your podcast 🎉😊
Once again, so many books, so little time!😀I bought Home: A Celebration on that very Seasons of Story recommendation, and gifted it to my Mom for her 97th birthday last week. We read it together, and it is just lovely…the passages really hit ‘home’! Thank you for another inspiring video, Miranda!📚❤️❤️
A little aside, always love your recommendations ,so many I haven’t heard about and will enjoy- my smile this morning, is looking at your “Emma Bridgewater” mug and on my table with my coffee is the same one (holding my coffee) there is a British import store in Massachusetts that has all the wonderful things I love and you & Donna have gotten me on a Emma Bridgewater quest - I have 4 so far and will stop for a while, I am alone so, these will do for the time being. I have 3 of the florals and one “William & Catherine” I am a fan.
Hi Miranda, today I finally managed to watch this video, and wow, your hair looks wonderful! 🤗 Thank you for the spring haul, so many good finds! Have a nice and sunny week 🤗🌻📚
Thank you for showing us your latest brilliant finds. I found a copy of Leon Garfield’s Pleasure Garden too towards the end of last year but I haven’t got round to reading yet. As you say, he’s a wonderful children’s writer and I loved Smith and The Strange affair of Adelaide Harris when I was a child. Have a great week! Much love. X
I've started collecting the Little Grey rabbit vintage books, I remember the ice skating one with great fondness from childhood and it took me a while to realise it was from the Little Grey rabbit collection! Vintage children's books are my absolute favourite, it was definitely the time in my life when I loved reading the most. For that reason I would love to read the AA Milne essays, I just cannot read Winnie the Pooh now, despite loving it as a child! 💛
Miranda- if you have a hard time finding any LM Montgomery I live in Atlantic Canada and have multiple copies of all of her works. I'd be glad to keep an eye out if there's anything you can't find in the UK.
I listened to this late yesterday evening and enjoyed hearing about your fabulous book haul. I'm in full agreement with you about Ballet Shoes, definitely my favourite Noel Streatfeild title and also a huge influence on my continuing to work at ballet. I like the sound of so many titles on the list, I do want to get the Eva Rice title, love the sound of Windfall and many others too. Unrelated to your vlog but very much related to your love (and mine) of vintage books and bookshops, I came across a new word yesterday and wondered if you knew it: 'Vellichor' (noun): The strange wistfulness of used bookstores, which are somehow infused with the passage of time-filled with thousands of old books you’ll never have time to read, each of which is itself locked in its own era, bound and dated and papered over like an old room the author abandoned years ago, a hidden annex littered with thoughts left just as they were on the day they were captured -- entire lives that you'll never experience. I thought the definition so evocative. I only came across it by accident when looking at knitting patterns! The designer briefly mentioned what the word meant and I delved a little further. Love to you and Donna, and thanks for the vlog.
Hello Miranda those new books sound amazing! I watched the film about Salinger last year with my daughter and we appreciated it: a nice way to know more about this mysterious writer ;a very charming film too 😊❤
Lovely video again Miranda. My sister-in-law, husband & her family, live in the centre of Boroughbridge, such a beautiful little market town ❤ You have inspired me to visit all the charity shops in the centre of Wigston, Leicester, tomorrow. There are about 9 of them to go through & see whether i can pick up any good 2nd hand books to read. I am using our village library in Kirby Muxloe which is run & staffed entirely by volunteers. Every Monday & Tuesday in March, you can pop in there for a 'free' cup of tea or coffee & sit in a beautifully warm place full of like minded people to have a little browse. Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday Miranda. By the way, i also picked up 'Drawn to the Garden' by Caroline Quentin from our local Sainbury's supermarket & cannot wait to delve into it......lt looks delightful xx
Thank you so much Miranda for a lovely podcast - so many beautiful books and so many wonderful memories 😊 I especially loved seeing your copy of Georgette Heyer; a group of us read so many of those when we were at high school - about 50 years ago ❤
another great book haul, I always enjoy seeing the beautiful vintage books you find. ( and what great condition they are in! ) Glad you were able to add those lost Noel Streatfeild books to your collection again. have a wonderful week!
Hi Miranda, I never miss your videos. You are so positive and uplifting, it makes my whole Sunday! I have a collection of books that I love from my childhood too, The Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They bring me great joy. I love your hair by the way, looks beautiful!
I wonder if you know the novel Jessamy by Barbara Sleigh. She also wrote Carbonel. I remember reading Jessamy as a kid but it was from the library, so I didn’t have it. I was able to finally find it. It’s a time traveller story and it’s incredible.
Hi Miranda. Thank you for sharing your book haul. Your joy of finding books you enjoyed as a child inspires me to ask you, and others here, how I might find a copy of a book I loved as a young reader in the U.S. in the 1960’s. I think the title was, “Katy Did”. I’ve found similar titles written in later years but not one written in (or prior to) the 60’s.
O thanks for Lorac mention! Just picked up Fire in the Thatch at Library past hour. Toss- up with Bats in the Belfry. I just returned her very fine one on mystery body on road during the Hunts Ball. It was perfect for the underground-BART-commute. Ashame she was gone early in life.
Hello Miranda! You make Sundays so special, thank you! There is a wonderful second hand book store in my town. I recently picked up 3 hardcover Rosamunde Pilcher books! One is ‘Three Complete Novels’ included in this book are September, Voices in Summer, and The Carousel. The second book is Coming Home, and the third book is The Shell Seekers ( I have a paperback copy from years ago)! I was so happy to find these, they are treasures to me! Have a wonderful week!🥰🇨🇦
I read My Salinger Year when it first came out. I need to reread it as I can’t remember too much about it. I didn’t realize there was a film made also. Secret Voices sounds wonderful! The daffodils are so beautiful 💛 Thank you for all the lovely recommendations. 💕
Thank you Miranda for such a lovely Spring book haul, there are certainly a lot of wonderful books there. The ballet books took me back to when I was a little girl taking ballet lessons after school. Sadly I grew up very fast to be very tall and my mother suggested another form of dancing that might suit my height better. But I do remember having my very first ballet shoes and trying them on! I love the film 'The Red Shoes'. I am currently reading Alison Uttley 'The Country Child'. Thank you for recommending! It is such a lovely book, her descriptive writing really takes me back to those past times and traditions. Have a wonderful week!
When I was a little girl I had dreams of becoming a ballerina. I read every book I could find about Ballet. My parents didn't have the money to send me to Ballet lessons, but I still love everything Ballet ! I love the older covers on some of the books you showed.
I always love your hauls, Miranda ☺This one felt so spring-like with those daffodils in the background. I can't wait for the new British Library Women Writers book to come out. Currently been in the mood for O Douglas and similarly cosy reads ☺
A great book haul Miranda! My Saliinger Year is one of the few books I re-read as it is such a favourite. The movie is great so make sure you get to watch it sometime. All the actors complimented their counterparts from the book - and you will love the clothes! As always, many thanks for your fine work.
I am ahead of the game Miranda, by almost finishing our March Book Club book lol. Full disclosure, I am really enjoying the audiobook! I look forward to read Beyond the Garden, Hens Dancing and Sand in My Shoes. Thanks for all the work you put into your channel for us!
Hi Miranda! I bought the new 'A Traveller in Time' that I learned about on your channel. Very pleased with it! Thank you for showing it on your videos! Regarding L.M. Montgomery, have you read 'Looking for Anne of Green Gables' by Irene Gammel? I read it last year when I was researching and found it fascinating! Thank you so much for mentioning The Frances Hodgson Burnett biography ...I have been so curious about her life and was very surprised to learn she spent part of her childhood in the USA - I had not known that at all! A splendid book haul - loved it! Happy Sunday!🦋
What a gorgeous selection, Miranda! I absolutely fell in love with The Little Grey Rabbit’s Storybook and the Flower Fairy “Spring Songs” … so lovely. ❤ I must confess I’ve never read Ballet Shoes but I think it’s time to bridge this huge gap… when you talk about this book your eyes sparkle, that’s the best recommendation😊
What a great haul, Miranda! The book I am most tempted to get for myself is Windfall. I know of very few Irish poets (Yeats being the only one who comes to mind) and this would be a great way to familiarize myself with some. My Salinger Year was both a charming book and movie. I recall seeing the movie first and only then discovering that it was based on a memoir, which of course I then had to read. The most recent book I read is The Future is Female! 25 Classic Science Fiction Stories by Women. I’ve read very little SF and thought this would be a good one to start with as March is Women’s History Month. I enjoyed it much more than I expected and plan to use this book as a springboard (or is launching pad more appropriate?) to further exploration of this genre.
So glad you like the look of Windfall as well, Gail! It's a beautiful book! And great to know you enjoyed both the book and film of My Salinger Year! xxx
I have read Hens Dancing and the sequel. They are very funny, especially if you have kids. I really related to the good intentions that she has as a parent but the chaos of family life that often scuppers her plans!
Lovely video Miranda. I need to get Secret Voices whenever it’s available here in the US. I have a weakness for diaries. Also love Nina Stibbe and Caroline Quentin so will have to get those books also. I did read My Salinger Year which I found interesting as a piece of social history and also to see comments on various authors that the literary agency represented. Salinger was not really the focus of the book. I do remember reading Rafaella Barker years ago and found her book delightful!
I've just read and loved the second A Bletchley Park Mystery: Hide and Seek. A second world war middle grade series by Rhian Tracey. I'm now reading another ww2 book based on the author Lucille Abendanon grandmother called The Songbird and the Rambutan Tree. So far it's really good ❤
Thank you for the recommendations Miranda.I think that you’ll love Hens Dancing. It’s one of my comfort reads. If you enjoy it there is a second in the series, and a third novel in which some of the characters from Hens Dancing appear. There are also two Angela Thirkell novels released on Audible on the seventh of March which haven’t been available up until now.
Another great selection with so much of interest. I do have the L M Montgomery, and also 'Infamous Army' (not with that lovely cover, though). I understand IA was once a text at Sandhurst because of the meticulous detail re Waterloo.
Dear Miranda,I am a regular watcher of your vlog and this time I am really thrilled by your mentioning of a couple of books about ballet ,which took me back to my first read as a child : "The little ballerina " ,a lovely book about the life of the famous Galina Ulanova .I loved this book which has stayed with me ever since .I loved ballet,I took ballet lessons as a chid but my life took a different path. I thank you so much for your reading suggestions and presentations !
Lovely to see a new vlog from you which brightens up my Monday morning as I am in Australia. I have read My Salinger year as I love reading about people working in publishing especially back in the day. It’s been a while so think I am due for a re-read and have not seen the film. Thanks as always for sharing your reads and life in Yorkshire, I have been working through all your vlogs which are wonderful and love your Mum Donna too❤
Loved your book haul today. Ballet Shoes has always been one of my favourites too. Latest purchase which arrived yesterday, Henrietta's House from Girls Gone By publishing ( love all the extra content in their books too!) Have a super week to come.
Another lovely book haul video miranda ❤ these are my favourite videos and I'm always listening for your recommendations. Particularly loving the georgette heyer books. They are books I'm definitely keeping as a collection because I love the beautiful covers of the books 📚 😊
Hi Miranda. I have ordered a few if AA Milnes adult books. There seems to be about 8 that are available at Blackwells. From memory there are Mr Pim, The Rabbits , Chloe Marr all with similar covers. I haven’t read any yet but they are on my shelves waiting. Maybe something you would enjoy
Thanks for your recommendations! I recently enjoyed reading Mrs. Harris goes to Paris and New York. Also I enjoyed reading my first book by Kate Morton, The Lake House.
Lovely books and I could watch you forever discussing books! Im currently reading Mutual Admiration Society by Mo Moulton. It was suggested to me after reading Square Haunting and looks at the female relationships developed by Dorothy L Sayers whilst she was at university and how these relationships continued into the future. I’m finding books about female writers really fascinating at the moment and hope to dive a bit deeper this year. Any suggestions welcome. That said, have a fabulous evening and happy reading x
Hi Miranda, love these book hauls as I always discover new authors. Also loved find out more about A.A. Milne. Currently I’m reading If I Survive You’ by Jonathan Escoffery. It’s his first novel, and talks about racial identity. I cannot put it down.
Hi Miranda! Happy Sunday yo you AND your Mom😊. Enjoyed this very much, as usual😊 I ordered the book about Frances Hodgson and The Lost Bookshop (you didn't share). You should get a little credit. I don't know ANYTHING about Frances Hogson, will be fun to read and learn. Will save up for Stilfall, Emma ( although I have Jane Austin's Collection, that is a gorgeous copy!), and a few others. Thank you so much! Also wrote down the next two book club books, which I have. You're daffodils are so pretty and cheery!
Wow what a book haul 😃 must get my old copy of secret garden out. I haven’t read it yet so no idea if it will be any good but an old book by James Reeves called Mulbridge Manor, it is a children’s book from the late 50’s
Hi Miranda I have a question. What is different in the American Ballet Shoes compared to the English versions please? Is it the covers? Because Ive noticed on Amazon some American covers are so much better.❤
Hello Miranda. Thank you for your nice videos. My latest read is "The hound of the Baskerville", by Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes story). In your video, the books that are collections of essays are so interesting to me. Thks again.
Thank you Miranda Relaxing video Inspiring to watch as always I have added Secret Voices to my list I received Wilding by Isabella Tree, illustrated by Angela Harding, today A beautiful book I am looking forward to escaping into Have a lovely week
Could you tell me how your affiliate with Blackwell’s bookshop works? I order from them all the time, I live in the US and they have free shipping to US. I would like you to get the credit for my purchase. What do I need to do for you to get that?
Thank you for wanting to use my affiliate link! All you do is click on the links I provide for the books, or I have also provided my general Blackwells links at the top of the links in this post, which you can use and then search for whichever books you'd like. xxx

That is precious!
That's adorable! Future bookworm by the sounds of it :)
Aw that’s so sweet.
This is so adorable! Good for you for raising a reader. I’ve always been a reader in a non-reader family and it always felt alienating.
I love hearing you speak about your favorite books from childhood and then reuniting with them again. A favorite quote of mine… “There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those spent with a favorite book.” These words are by Marcel Proust and are so true for me also.
What a wonderful quote! And so true for me too. Thank you for sharing and also for your very kind support, Carol! I really appreciate it ❤️
Thank you for all the wonderful content x
Thank you so much, Penny, for your very generous support! It's so kind of you, and I truly appreciate it very much ❤️

Miranda I truly enjoy all your videos especially the book hauls. I find so many of your suggestions are spot on for me. Happy Spring to you and your Mum. Thanks again.
Happy Sunday to you! The hairstyle is fabulous btw 👏🏽

It was lovely to talk to you too, Sarah! ❤️

So glad you enjoyed learning about these books! xxx
Thanks
Thank you so much for your lovely support, Valentina! It's so kind of you, and I really appreciate it! 💚
Off to the Blackwell’s site to order Windfall (at least). Thank you again for your work. I appreciate it very much.
If you liked Nina Stibbe’s “Love, Nina,” I think you’ll enjoy “Went to London, Took the Dog.” It’s a fun read.
That's good to know, thank you! xxx
Thanks!
thank you so much for your fabulous support, April! It's so kind of you, and I appreciate it very much indeed ❤️

Unrelated to your vlog but very much related to your love (and mine) of vintage books and bookshops, I came across a new word yesterday and wondered if you knew it:
'Vellichor' (noun): The strange wistfulness of used bookstores, which are somehow infused with the passage of time-filled with thousands of old books you’ll never have time to read, each of which is itself locked in its own era, bound and dated and papered over like an old room the author abandoned years ago, a hidden annex littered with thoughts left just as they were on the day they were captured -- entire lives that you'll never experience.
I thought the definition so evocative.

Hello fellow Leicester person!
Always excited to see different editions of Ballet Shoes, also one of my all-time favourite and beloved books
Hi Miranda,
I never miss your videos. You are so positive and uplifting, it makes my whole Sunday! I have a collection of books that I love from my childhood too, The Little House books by
Laura Ingalls Wilder.
A lovely video with some amazing books 😊thank uou Miranda ❤
I always love your hauls, Miranda ☺This one felt so spring-like with those daffodils in the background. I can't wait for the new British Library Women Writers book to come out. Currently been in the mood for O Douglas and similarly cosy reads ☺
Thank you, Emma! Spring did hover in the air today! xxx
A great book haul Miranda! My Saliinger Year is one of the few books I re-read as it is such a favourite. The movie is great so make sure you get to watch it sometime. All the actors complimented their counterparts from the book - and you will love the clothes! As always, many thanks for your fine work.
Fabulous haul! I took down notes 📝as usual! Wishing you and your mum, Donna a lovely week full of sunshine and flowers 💐. xx
I am ahead of the game Miranda, by almost finishing our March Book Club book lol. Full disclosure, I am really enjoying the audiobook! I look forward to read Beyond the Garden, Hens Dancing and Sand in My Shoes. Thanks for all the work you put into your channel for us!
thank you. love listening to your videos. cheers
Haha, I can imagine my eyes sparkle when I talk about Ballet Shoes, Laura! I so love it!! Hope you enjoy it too! 🩰
That’s quite a haul! How fun! I have never read The Secret Garden, so I’m going to try to get to that this month with you gals. 😊
Oh good; I'm looking forward to reading it! Yes, I'm excited about those Thirkell coming out! xxx
Thanks as always for sharing your reads and life in Yorkshire, I have been working through all your vlogs which are wonderful and love your Mum Donna too❤
Hello Miranda. I hadn't heard of My Year with Salinger either. Ordered a pre-owned copy. Done and done. Thanks!
Loved your book haul today. Ballet Shoes has always been one of my favourites too. Latest purchase which arrived yesterday, Henrietta's House from Girls Gone By publishing ( love all the extra content in their books too!) Have a super week to come.
Another lovely video! Thank you 😊 Your hair looks amazing xxx
I love A A Milne’s essays. I was lucky enough to stumble upon 3 or 4 very old copies with great titles like “If I May”. Yes… you may!! 😁
11:02 OMG I HAVE THIS! My mother had a few of the titles and I remember them growing up. The covers are so cool.
I have just finished reading This Could Be Everything by Eva Rice and I loved it!
Another lovely book haul video miranda ❤ these are my favourite videos and I'm always listening for your recommendations. Particularly loving the georgette heyer books. They are books I'm definitely keeping as a collection because I love the beautiful covers of the books 📚 😊
Eva Rice is Tim Rice’s daughter… I was interested by your rec and that’s the first thing that popped up!
So many of these titles picqued my interest! I ordered Impact of Evidence but would love to read several of the others.
Excellent as ever! Have you seen Different Sounds, stories by mid-century women writers, ed Lucy Scoles, by Pushkin Classics?
Yes, I have it! 😊
I am listening to the audiobook of Ballet Shoes for the first time. I have enjoyed so many of your recommendations Miranda - thank you!
That's wonderful, Debbie! I so love Ballet Shoes 🩰 🩷
Lovely video, some good recommendations! Your hair looks very nice ❤ x
