- I’m Sheila. For years, I’ve been following my mom’s ridiculous rules. But I’ve had enough. Every family has rules. For example “Do your homework on time,” “Don’t eat in front of the computer,” “Turn off the lights when you leave the bathroom.” These rules are normal and I agree that they should exist. I wish our rules were like that. But my mom’s rules are irrational, illogical and totally meaningless.

Those rules are extremely strict. I would be extremely mad, call a psychologist on her, or run away, because those rules are so unacceptable.

I would not imagine being in this same position like Sheila.
I would absolutely reach a Breaking Point if I had to put up with any ridiculous rules for years and years. That would be a nightmare for me. That will affect me emotionally, mentally and personally.
I am so glad that didn’t happen to me. I am so happy to be myself and be who I am and do what you love to do and do best.
I'm 42 and can't even have one or two hours to brush my teeth and head to sleep with the light off without my mom come charging home quick as to say, "Don't have to run downstairs to open the door, I wish you would leave everything how I had it." In our house, my mom likes to run lights on, even when no one is in the room and even for our cat at 4am in the morning, you can't go to sleep early I'm the house, nor wake up early because it is too "suspicious" to her and all your money goes towards feeding outside feral cats which is ridiculous.
If her mom banned the peanuts it would. Make me very angry what would the reason for becuse they never show the adults
What should you do?
-move out as soon as possible
-move to a foreign country
-maybe visit her once in a while
How can you keep your calm? If I were you, I would be fighting with my mum, shouting at the top of my voice. I respect how you can be so patient.
You should definitely have a psychologist observe her. There was probably some issues that upset her in her childhood and now she can’t get over them.
Only 30 minutes on weekdays!? And 1 hour on weekends!? My mum does not say that! She is like "As long as you study your allowed to take your phone as long as you want!"

I've lived parents who were strit, but not crazy rules like her, I know my parents and older sister loves me and wants the best for me and I can't even be ungrateful for that.

Imagine if Sheila continued to put up with her mom and especially her Ridiculous rules for years.
It will get to the point where Sheila would reach a Breaking Point where she still not get over it. And that shouldn’t happen to anyone else who had to put up with any parent ridiculous rules.
No children should never have to be punished for something they didn’t do. That is child abuse no doubt about it.
But imagine if I was Sheila Dad and she told me about that i would be furious, livid and angry no doubt about it. I would change the rules and let Sheila be herself, be happy and I’ll let her do what she loved doing. No child should ever have to put up with anyone weird rules for that matter. That is child abuse and that is abuse of power.
To the mom, I'd be "it's the point of drinking beverages while eating, so we won't overeat."

I have to deal with a similar rule. I am only allowed a ounce of water when I drink. And if I get up to hydrate some more, I will be told that I am ungrateful and get shouted at for an hour

I've had no problems like this and neither of my parents ever acted this way. I feel so sorry about poor Sheila, my advice to her is to run away as far as the next town, go to the police or a therapist, and ask them for help.

My crazy rule is that I have to turn in my phone at 10:00 PM even when i don’t have school because my mom says that i spend too much time on my phone and that i always stay up at 2:00 AM on my phone so I have to turn in my phone at 10:00 PM. My rules when I was a kid was:
1. 2 Hours of Electronics each day except on vacations.
2. Go to sleep at 9:00 or less on weekdays and 11:00 or less on weekends.
3. Flush the toilet
4. When I got in trouble, my electronics were taken away depending on how bad it was.

My mom said she wants me to get a job, yet i can't just go out an get one due to it being a long walk and dad drives her too and from work with the only car.
