The Digital Skills Gap and the Future of Jobs - The Fundamental Growth Mindset

  • We’ve reached a tipping point in the future of jobs. The digital skills gap is asking for the development of a growth mindset!
    Read our Human Centric Digital Transformation Guide: hubs.la/H0WkR3c0
    Organisational roles are disappearing and being replaced by skillsets. The digital skills gap is ever growing. At its current pace, technology is outpacing human skills causing a gap in the skills demanded and supplied by in the job market.
    In the future of jobs, employers require you to know an ever growing number of new and ever-changing fundamental skills in order to use the technologies they've implemented. That’s where the growth mindset comes in...Master the fundamentals and you can master the rest.
    The future of jobs 2020: McKinsey published a report stating that 45% of ALL current tasks could be automated with PRESENT technology. The world economic forum estimates that 33% of jobs in 2020 didn't even exist yet. We don't even know what 1/3rd of people will be doing by then or what skill they'll need to have.
    It starts with having a growth mindset where you have the desire and the confidence that you can learn anything. Shift your thinking on how technologies will rattle, mutate, but ultimately ENRICH your work life. If you play your cards right, technology will make your work life much better.
    The future of jobs 2020
    The fact is that technology will actually remove boring repetitive jobs from your way... but only if you understand the fundamentals. And you have no excuse to do so. How can you stay relevant if you can't talk the lingo. Can you talk tech, can you talk APIs, can you talk code, can you talk data?
    Education systems are struggling to keep up with the skills demanded by future jobs..so train yourself and if you're an employer, train your people. Online and offline courses have never been more readily available or rich in content. Take your education in your own hands, learn to code, learn about behavioural psychology, automation tools, playing with data, user experiences, be curious…
    it's time to build something! Your greatest credential in this new era is your output of stuff, proof of your awesomeness. A website, a blog, a prototype, a simple data model... it's time to build cool stuff and showcase it!
    It's time to get shit done, time to develop your growth mindset. It's time for YOUR growth.

    Funny how our formal education system focuses on training tomorrow’s workforce to operate in yesterday’s workplace. In a few years, the work landscape will radically shift, yet schools continue to train students on jobs that won’t exist when they graduate...

    • @ObjectsInMotion
      @ObjectsInMotion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Uh what? Schools right now don't teach you how to operate in the workplace at all, for this very reason! They teach history, math, and science. Things that *by definition* will NEVER become obsolete. Thats why its so stupid when people try to "revolutionize" education by including "real life skills" into the curriculum.

    This is a good video!
    I had a good laugh the first time I recently heard a receptionist AI booking an appointment for a patient. It was BEAUTIFUL conversation. Like real and amazingly human.
    As you said, skills set are the key: it's not about the amount you know or the tenure you have, but how you use what you know to solve ever-emerging problems.
    That's a lot of pressure on people who are more "traditional" (i.e 20th century) in their approach to society, values and job roles. Funny enough, when I tell them about these upcoming changes, they get hurt, confused, contrarian or downright aggressive.
    WHAT IS THE POINT of all that? Well, you can't stop what is coming, but you can be pragmatic and forward looking and steer the change in your direction. But still, it requires you to ACKNOWLEDGE this is happening for real: no blindfolds allowed!
    With so much information about this upcoming employability crisis available day-in day-out, whoever refuses to wisen up will only have his/her close-minded attitude to blame in the near future...

    I like the motivation. The only flaw is that this video confines the value of humanity to being useful, otherwise known as the utilitarian mindset. This mindset sadly encourages discarding people when they become "irrelevant". But we are much more than that. Let's spread authentic love, not just artificial [fill in the blank]. Technology doesn't solve depression, loneliness, etc. We need each other; you are valuable whether you are tech-savvy or not.

  • @soniakiwi
    @soniakiwi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I need time to assimilate this info. It's easy to tell some to go and code if that does not interest them or if they have no aptitude for it. However, what I got from this video was that no matter your skill set you have to create a niche marketbase for yourself because the era of working for a company (or 2) for a salary will soon be gone. Look at yourself as the CEO of your life. What are you good at? How can you innovate and market your skills? Will your skills be relevant? Those are tough questions to answer if you are unskilled. Educational attainment won't matter so much as skill set. So if your talent is magic tricks and comforting pets you have yourself a business.

      Empathy scientist really? Are you some sort of weak omega socialist. All those jobs your described will be automated.
      Psychology will be done by a computer questionnaire and statistics.
      Lawyers will be removed because they waste time and because their a inconvenience for the wealthy communist.
      Doctors will be automated.
      Workers will be gone.
      The only ones with jobs will be engineers because they do maintenance and further tech developments.
      Computer scientist.

    The main problem is that consumers are idiots, mindless zombies, spending money they don't have in things they don't need. The rise of digital technologies and computational powers was due to the improvement in semi-conductor manufacturing. The limit is about to be reach because you can only make transistors so small. A stagnation will occur again. People should be concerned about growth and creation of new industries. This will actually create more new jobs. Having new apps does very little to rise the standard of living in a country. Website, blog? these stuff is shit.

    • @nachannachle2706
      @nachannachle2706 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Rhythmandac You have a good point. IT is so hyped up they fail to see that the only reason they came to "power" is that they were solving pressing problems at their time.
      But now that most of these hardcore IT problems have mostly been solved, they're trying to feed us up with BS Tech goodies that we don't need nor desire. One software and app and website builder after the other that adds little real value but pumps up the ego of those who "sell it" on G-Play for $1.20...
      Yeah, right. I don't buy the IT hype.

    You speak the truth; I just wish there was more to this story about the future of jobs. Software has grown so much faster than hardware, it's really quite saddening when you stop and think about it. And no, I'm not talking about drones or virtual reality headsets, I mean really astounding innovations like bladeless, antigravity flying cars and breakthrough batteries, you know, technologies dreamed of in the mid 20th century. I have an unpopular opinion that the imbalance between hardware and software progress is hurting society. Tools make societies better and improve the standards of living over generations. It's hard for me to see that happening with innovative software solutions alone. We need our best scientists and engineers to put their best feet forward and take the risk of developing monumentally improved hardware systems that integrate data systems and truly and honestly benefit the masses. We need a hardware revolution. There, I said it. Of course, my opinion doesn't matter, because Uber's a $50B company and I'm wasting my time on TH-cam. True story.

    I have read many of the below comments. Many where inspired and enthousiastic and enlightened! Only very few expressed depression by seeing this video. So i ask..Have you thought about what it will take to get what we are supposed to be? What will it take? All of your time and life. Just think about it... you are going to dive into a world that will always demand more and more but not at a pace we were used to in normal jobs. You wont have the opportunity to "grow and get wiser" on your job. You will have to go further and further at paces you wont believe. How many of you can pay that price. And most important of all. Is this how you want to live? Live for your job? So.. i conclude.. yes. This video is very depressing.

    Not very useful, just a lot of catch phrases. "Learn to code" is not going to give millions of people jobs. The basic coding will be done by AI's and there will be a few people developing the AI. I expect there will be more work in installing, programming and maintaining the machines and ever less in writing the code at the core of the machine.

      PMB-NZ coding will be a part of everyday life just like writing is now. Knowing the fundamentals for coding will not get you a job but will prevent you not getting one. It will be basic knowledge

    This video reminds me of the “technocracy” government from “Civilization: Call to Power” (a similar future government/society existed in “Sid Meier Alpha Centauri”). In this future, a technological elite presides over a mass of unskilled and impoverished laborers/“drones” who are kept under control by AI and other forms of advanced technology.

    • @bobbyweirddick6556

      Yeah I agree with you.
      Shame lots of stupid people can’t see what’s coming. Lots of people in the comments embracing their damnation.
      Embrace the future or learn to code or relax it’s just marketing. Dum fucks. These people for a fact don’t know anything about technology and how fast it moves. I wouldn’t be surprised if robots fix themselves and a.i drives everything from cars to planes. What will be of us and who will control this.
