The Barefoot Jazzy Queen Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program (I read, that this school said, they couldn't teach her more stuff because she has all learned what she could learn in this school ;-) ) - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her grandma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield"). Yes, she seems to understand more about the song than a 9 year old usually would. And she wrote the arrangement based on hearing the original and making changes she wanted. Just producing the necessary sounds/textures to successfully pull of this song seems so unlikely. But do realize she won Norway's Got Talent (not just the kid's division) with a number of teeth missing. She just works around all these obstacles.

Welcome to the Angelina Jordan rabbit hole!! This young lady burst on the scene at Norway’s Got Talent in 2013-14 at the age of seven and turned eight midway through the competition. She auditioned with Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" followed by an Acapella performance of Billie Holiday's "I'm a Fool to Want You". She was 7 years old for both performances. Her birthday is January 10th, so her next two performances she had turned 8 (barely). She performed Sony & Cher's "Bang, Bang" (made popular by Nancy Sinatra). She won the competition with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". For these performances, please make sure you watch subtitled versions as they are in Norwegian and the judge's comments are very much worth reading!! She performs barefoot because a promise she made to a poor Iranian girl when she was six years old. She met this girl who was weighing people for money. After talking to this girl about their dreams, the girl dreamed of being a doctor and Angelina told her dream of wanting to sing for the world. Angelina, at six, took off her favorite pair of boots and gave them to the girl as she had no shoes at all. She promised the girl that she would perform barefoot as long as there were shoeless children in the world! Twelve years later she still performs barefoot in honor of that promise - there are a couple times she is not barefoot for reasons like venue wouldn’t allow it or she’s brought on stage for a song or two and it’s not her headlined performance, etc. At age nine she published a book about the experience “Between Two Hearts” and became the youngest published author in Norway. You will be inundated with comments and song suggestions from her fans who are her “Angels”. Her Angels are very passionate about her as many are father/mother to great-great-grandfather/grandmother age - and we all adore her as if she were one of our kids/grandkids. You really can’t go wrong with any song of hers you choose. She always puts her mark on covers while paying absolute respect to the original. She has done her own arrangements since at least age 9 when she did “I Put a Spell on You” at 9yrs 2mos old. For that performance she comes out with a candle picturing the original artist Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (worth checking out his performance on Merv Griffin where he’s dressed like a voodoo doctor performing it). Next you’ll see her little hand writing a note to the music director who reads it and smiles. It’s last minute changes to the piano. The whole band was calling her “Boss” out of respect as she was professional and knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish. You’ll get a great many requests for her songs and they are all great! I’m 58 years old and have never been captured by a voice like I have been by Angelina. I ‘found’ her in January of 2020 while watching young folks reacting to legends like The Righteous Brothers and this video thumbnail of a little (13 yo) girl sitting on a blue couch popped up and I decided to click it. This cover of “I’d Rather go Blind” absolutely blew my mind. Since that day I’ve barely listened to anyone else. I’ve listened to her for thousands of hours and watched hundreds of if not thousands of hours of reactions to her. I’m going to recommend some songs that most people don’t immediately recommend. But I’m going to pop in some recommendations that aren’t as often requested but are brilliant as always with her. Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game - she slowed it down and made it even more emotional while playing the piano. Alan Walker - Sunday & Singe Me to Sleep Live. Alan Walker is a Norwegian DJ and music producer who asked Angelina to open his “Coming Home” concert. She was just ten years old and sick. They told her she didn’t need to perform, but being the professional she is, she insisted on performing anyway. So you will hear a couple voice cracks from her being sick but she still did a beautiful job! Rihanna - Stay - this is a cover she did in L.A. in a room in her house with guitar player Ivan Mendez. You can watch him get lost in her voice, there’s an interview with him on Alan Papier’s channel. Elvis - Can’t Help Falling in Love - Another performance from a room in a house in Norway. The guitar player here is Egil Claussen and Alan Papier-mâché has an interview with him as well. George Gershwin - Summertime (KORK) - KORK is a famous Norwegian Orchestra who has performed with Angelina several times. This a beautiful rendition of her Norway’s Got Talent winning cover song! Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (Jazzy Michael Jackson Cover) - I have never been a fan of MJ, sorry but it is what it is. That said, Angelina completely reimagined this song in her Jazzy rendition. Beatles - Yesterday - filmed in the same location as Billie Jean. This is a fantastic re-imaging as well. Seoul Muse Festival Opened for Norah Jones at age 11. She sang “I Put a Spell on You” in front of 40,000 attendees. My understanding is that it was a last minute request as Norah was running late so Angelina is in ‘street clothes’. Her 7 song set at Muse is worth checking out as well - not sure if her set was performed earlier that day or another day of the festival. The big deal here, for me, is how unaffected an 11 year old is singing in front of a crowd that size! Born and living in Norway, Angelina actually started singing, in English, when she was 18 months old (a year and a half)! She's covered artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Shirley Bassey, Etta James...the list goes on. She arranged and rehearsed "...Put a Spell..." with the band backing her up on this recording. She was so knowledgeable and intuitive about what she wanted, they affectionately referred to her as "The Boss."

I've seen a buttload of reactions to this performance. This was one of the best. Don't change a thing. Some of her more prudish fans may ask you to clean up your language. Bless them and the horses they road in on. Be your genuine self. As I said, one of the best reactions to this performance I've seen, and in large part because it was the real deal. She's born in Norway, but not to trad Norwegians. I think a Swedish Dad was as close as she got to 'trad'. Spent a lot of her young life as a Norwegian child, where most learn English too, but, with the makings of a 'career' already forming for her out of family influence, exposure to old American Jazz, and the variety available to her on the Internet, such as by 'Screamin' Jay Hawkins' to light her imagination, and the consequences of her subsequent performance success on 'Norway's Got Talent' at ages 7 and 8 over a few months as her cute teeth came in. In Norway, it's a norm to offer 'outsized' support of children compared to many other countries. She was seen on TV by 'important people' high in the govt who offered her support with bands/venues. Well, welcome to the AJ Rabbit Hole! You are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, "Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.
Now 18 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records had agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. From what we know, she is finally done with school. She had a single that came out May 5th called Love Don't Let Me Go, a new EP called Old Enough that came out Friday, July 21st, 2023, a newly released video of her new song called Now I'm The Fool, and a new album of original music which will be coming out some time this year. Angelina released her new single, Our Time, and is fantastic! She returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience. On September 22, 2023, Angelina had her first U.S. concert that sold out in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On December 11, 2023, she was asked to come back and perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. She first performed at this prestigious event in 2014 when she was 8. On Feb.29th, 2024, she performed 2 shows on one night at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. A film crew followed her and created a documentary of her called Angelina Jordan: 10 Years In The Making which premiered on her official TH-cam channel on March 29th, 2024. Currently, she is working with 3 time Grammy winner songwriter/producer Toby Gad creating new original music for her to sing. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. The girl then asked Angelina what her dreams were, Angelina answered that she wanted to sing for the whole world, and the girl said she would pray for her success. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. First seen at 18 months signing a line from a Whitney song holding a toy mic in her crib, her Granma played jazz around the house around 3 she started using her mums iPad to search out all the jazz greats and taught herself to sing by 5 she was crazing her mum to sign her up for Norway's got talent , she had to wait until she was 7 yrs old she auditioned with her performance of "Gloomy Sunday " by Billie Holiday (this was her choice no one choses her music) this went viral and agents were flying to Norway to sign her up her family turned everything down , she went on to win the show at 8yrs old , with an a Capella version of "I'm a fool to want you" again Billie her inspiration , then "Bang Bang" Nancy Sinatra and her winning performance "Summer Time" Louis Armstrong and Ella duet , she was the Mini Jazz Queen by then and the Legend of Angelina Jordan was born. Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may makes many people emotional. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on TH-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. So nice to have you join our journey with Angelina, the barefoot Princess. As they say down the block, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" And, that's no lie. She was actually 9 doing this and then she notched it up a few more levels when she hit 10. What!?!?!?!? Yep! And that's when the industry began to take serious notice this was no kid singer with a great voice. This was someone who, one day, will rule the planet with her soulful voice. And, you picked up on it very early, that soulfulness is very genuine and that's why you can feel it touch you.
'Fly Me To The Moon' has been covered by her several times at different ages and another gem is her version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' at age 13 on AGT/The Champions.

Yes, she entered Norway's Got Talent (she is Norwegian but her family moved to Los Angeles before the pandemic) and won the Show (singing Billie Holiday songs and finishing with her version of George Gershwin's 'Summertime'). He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. Yes, she seems to understand more about the song than a 9 year old usually would. And she wrote the arrangement based on hearing the original and making changes she wanted. Just producing the necessary sounds/textures to successfully pull of this song seems so unlikely.
But do realize she won Norway's Got Talent (not just the kid's division) with a number of teeth missing. She just works around all these obstacles.

This young lady burst on the scene at Norway’s Got Talent in 2013-14 at the age of seven and turned eight midway through the competition. She auditioned with Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" followed by an Acapella performance of Billie Holiday's "I'm a Fool to Want You". She was 7 years old for both performances. Her birthday is January 10th, so her next two performances she had turned 8 (barely). She performed Sony & Cher's "Bang, Bang" (made popular by Nancy Sinatra). She won the competition with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". For these performances, please make sure you watch subtitled versions as they are in Norwegian and the judge's comments are very much worth reading!!
She performs barefoot because a promise she made to a poor Iranian girl when she was six years old. She met this girl who was weighing people for money. After talking to this girl about their dreams, the girl dreamed of being a doctor and Angelina told her dream of wanting to sing for the world. Angelina, at six, took off her favorite pair of boots and gave them to the girl as she had no shoes at all. She promised the girl that she would perform barefoot as long as there were shoeless children in the world! Twelve years later she still performs barefoot in honor of that promise - there are a couple times she is not barefoot for reasons like venue wouldn’t allow it or she’s brought on stage for a song or two and it’s not her headlined performance, etc. At age nine she published a book about the experience “Between Two Hearts” and became the youngest published author in Norway.
You will be inundated with comments and song suggestions from her fans who are her “Angels”. Her Angels are very passionate about her as many are father/mother to great-great-grandfather/grandmother age - and we all adore her as if she were one of our kids/grandkids.
You really can’t go wrong with any song of hers you choose. She always puts her mark on covers while paying absolute respect to the original. She has done her own arrangements since at least age 9 when she did “I Put a Spell on You” at 9yrs 2mos old. For that performance she comes out with a candle picturing the original artist Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (worth checking out his performance on Merv Griffin where he’s dressed like a voodoo doctor performing it). Next you’ll see her little hand writing a note to the music director who reads it and smiles. It’s last minute changes to the piano. The whole band was calling her “Boss” out of respect as she was professional and knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish.
You’ll get a great many requests for her songs and they are all great! I’m 58 years old and have never been captured by a voice like I have been by Angelina. I ‘found’ her in January of 2020 while watching young folks reacting to legends like The Righteous Brothers and this video thumbnail of a little (13 yo) girl sitting on a blue couch popped up and I decided to click it. This cover of “I’d Rather go Blind” absolutely blew my mind. Since that day I’ve barely listened to anyone else. I’ve listened to her for thousands of hours and watched hundreds of if not thousands of hours of reactions to her.
I’m going to recommend some songs that most people don’t immediately recommend. Alan Walker - Sunday & Singe Me to Sleep Live. Alan Walker is a Norwegian DJ and music producer who asked Angelina to open his “Coming Home” concert. She was just ten years old and sick. They told her she didn’t need to perform, but being the professional she is, she insisted on performing anyway. So you will hear a couple voice cracks from her being sick but she still did a beautiful job!

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (Jazzy Michael Jackson Cover) - I have never been a fan of MJ, sorry but it is what it is. That said, Angelina completely reimagined this song in her Jazzy rendition.

Seoul Muse Festival Opened for Norah Jones at age 11. She sang “I Put a Spell on You” in front of 40,000 attendees. My understanding is that it was a last minute request as Norah was running late so Angelina is in ‘street clothes’. Her 7 song set at Muse is worth checking out as well - not sure if her set was performed earlier that day or another day of the festival. The big deal here, for me, is how unaffected an 11 year old is singing in front of a crowd that size!

Angelina is just amazing, she has been singing since she was just a baby. The story behind why she performs barefoot is just so heartwarming. You should check out her first time in a recording studio where she did "I who have nothing" and then "Feeling Good" followed by her original songs 7Th Heaven, Love don't let me go. That was not her father and mother at the beginning. According to the studio director (the man), what she was writing was her "wishes" before the recording session began. The woman was her grandmother, Mery Zamani, who heavily influenced Angelina since she was around 2 years old, introducing her to the great jazz singers from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Born and living in Norway, Angelina actually started singing, in English, when she was 18 months old (a year and a half)! She's covered artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Shirley Bassey, Etta James...the list goes on. She arranged and rehearsed "...Put a Spell..." with the band backing her up on this recording. She was so knowledgeable and intuitive about what she wanted, they affectionately referred to her as "The Boss."

I've seen a buttload of reactions to this performance. This was one of the best. Don't change a thing. Some of her more prudish fans may ask you to clean up your language. Bless them and the horses they road in on. Be your genuine self. As I said, one of the best reactions to this performance I've seen, and in large part because it was the real deal. She's born in Norway, but not to trad Norwegians. I think a Swedish Dad was as close as she got to 'trad'. Spent a lot of her young life as a Norwegian child, where most learn English too, but, with the makings of a 'career' already forming for her out of family influence, exposure to old American Jazz, and the variety available to her on the Internet, such as by 'Screamin' Jay Hawkins' to light her imagination, and the consequences of her subsequent performance success on 'Norway's Got Talent' at ages 7 and 8 over a few months as her cute teeth came in. In Norway, it's a norm to offer 'outsized' support of children compared to many other countries. She was seen on TV by 'important people' high in the govt who offered her support with bands/venues.
