ABOUT: 🔻
Heilung is sounds from the northern european iron age and viking period. We used everything from running water, human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums and bronze rings in the songs.
The lyrics contain original texts from rune stones and preserved spear shafts, amulets and other artifacts. Furthermore poems, which either deal with historical events or are translations/ interpretations of the originals.
Every attempt to link the music to modern political or religious points are pointless, since Heilung tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offsprings raped and burned itself into the northern european mentality.
Heilung means healing in german and describes the core of the sound. It is supposed to leave the listener eased and relaxed after a sometimes turbulent musical journey.

Healing doesn't make songs, they make rituals and the audience are their brothers and sisters. as others have said, "Anoana" is a good place to start. 🙂✌

It’s always nice younger generations enjoying music like this. I’ve seen Heilung twice and felt an incredible spiritual energy both times. This may be in my top 5 favorite performers ever

Heilung is the german word for healing. And as @gerhard7157 said are their songs considered as being rituals, and they (the band) consider all humans as being brothers and sisters....one people.
Fun fact: Some people report that the music of Heilung has helped them through though times, and some even say it helped them to an easier life living with mental disease.
EDIT: The language they sing in is supposedly ancient germanic an norse language, found in ancient runic texts.
EIDT: And I can recommend "Alfadhirhaiti" and "In Maidjan"......and "Anoana". But "Anoana" is almost a pop song compared to the other two, which are more ritualistic in nature and much more the "Heilung-sound".

Just went to see Heilung last night in Columbia SC USA. It was definitely a different kind of group. They also have thier super fans that dress up in animal skins, rune painted faces and wear antlers.

Saw them about two weeks ago in Greensboro NC. They have stepped up their game since the Lifa concert videos. One of the best concerts I have ever seen and I'm a 79 yr old whose been to countless shows! Their showmanship and additional cast of performers/dancers is off the charts.
"What is that?" @14:30: That is a shaker made from nut shells being played into an upside down cymbal or other circular metal.

Heilung is probably more "metal" than actual metal. 🤘 As for the instrument that gentlemen is playing, I've never found anything on it, but judging by other things on the stage, and the complete lack of written history that's available, it's likely simply a metal plate, having some tied together metal or stone bells smashed against it, just as it looks. Since there weren't many actual "instrument makers" in those times except for string type instruments, and travel was limited as far as we know, instruments were in the eye of the musician as far as, that makes a neat noise, I bet it would sound good in a song. You can even see some metal strips hanging from string to use as chimes.

proto-germanic is the 'name' of the language. I think Meidjian and then krigsgaldr and the lifa, is 1 'song' or story, Meidjian is about how they were attacked and their children were killed, krigsgaldr is about how they go to war.

If my guess is correct, those have to be goat claws / nails. They are widely used as Musical Instruments.
