      I did the same thing with my Pixel 4 XL. I dropped it the first day I had it onto a concrete floor and the one side was scuffed, and the screen PROTECTOR cracked (I'm really glad I did buy a screen protector, as I didn't have a case for the first few days of having the phone).

    You were in my recommended thanks to most of the phone review/repair channels TH-cam has recommended to me as of late. I absolutely love being able to learn from videos like this and actually attempt these things myself. Thanks to youtube and content creators like you and similar to you ive been able to: Repair some of my old phones, replace the alternator of my car, learn how to take decent pictures of the astros, bake a cheescake, etc etc. Thank YOU and thank everyone that takes the time to show and teach us, especially during these times.

    I believe the pixels have a simulated battery pull button combo that lets you turn them off if the screen is destroyed or if their frozen in boot.
    You hold power and one of the volume keys (not sure which one) for like 30 seconds.
    I've used it on my Pixel 3 when it froze in boot after an update.

    When replacing a pixel 2xl screen, be very careful when disconnecting it. There are two very very small transistors that are very easy to knock off, and you won't even notice until you turn on the phone and try to play music or a video, use an alarm, or talk on the phone. Not having the transistors makes it impossible to do any of these things.

    Interesting video as I have a damaged pixel 2xl myself (fall into the sea) ! The screen is showing moving white bars and halos on the left half of the display, while the touch response is still working... Anyway, the cost for a pixel 2 xl display is around 200$ which just isn't worth it if you're not a expert for the replacement (higher chance of failing...). I ended up buying a reconditioned pixel 2 xl and still have my damaged one :)

    Wait, so the replacement display is an LCD? Why would you replace an OLED part with and LCD part??
    But then you later say it's an OLED when finishing the install? And it appears to be an OLED (deep blacks, always on display being used) so did iFixit just lazily label the new part? 🤔
    Also, love your channel - keep up the great work!

  • @gdob9646
    @gdob9646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A word to the wise: the screen is a beast to remove, fair enough if it's broken, but I'd say there was limited prospect of you removing a "good" one without killing it! - where I live, OLED screens are expensive - typically over $100usd so don't attempt a battery replacement lightly!
    ALSO don't try to test with the shield/heatsink unscrewed, it requires the screws to make good contact between the volume/ power buttons and the main board.
    Given that this model is now four or five years old, I wouldn't dream of opening one up without replacing the battery (complete;y false economy not to) - I also redid the switches and power connector as I wasn't going back in again any time soon!
    When I reassembled my pixel 2XL the digitiser didn't work and I was unable to power down properly so I had to disconnec the battery (again) -As I haven't put the glue back in, I may do my own version for a "deep stripdown" if anyone interested
