i thought the song was ok. just not one of my favs. i did say the diffs between this album are subtle. i guess this one might be a little dancier, sure, but it's not like a night & day thing. i think hot chip are staying true to their path.
i know their older stuff is a bit more rough around the edges, but even that stuff have a fun attitude. i don't think their lack of danger is a bad thing. really, i just wish their vocals had a bit more personality is all.
Ah thank you so much for reviewing this Anthony! Now I can stop bugging you everywhere! But no mention of 'Flutes', the centrepiece and juggernaut track of this album!?! I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on it. Glad to hear you ended up warming up to it!
Love the review!! Surprised no "Flutes" love, but understandable. I really love Hot Chip's quirky vibe. A kind of emotionless sentimentality (soulless vocals v. heartfelt lyrics). Probably one of the few pop bands I love unabashedly (along with this album). I'd give it a Strong 9. My favorite release this year. PS Great "Motion Sickness" harmony in there :)
i give it "strong 7 to a light 8" - Strong 8 appears on the screen. fyi Anthony, that review was legit, and those vocal inputs you've recently started to make are tight :D
Hot Chip will always be one of my favorite bands. And I agree that these tracks are very universally made to where I could play this to a 6 or 60 year perfectly fine. But "Flutes"...that track is amazing. I love that track to death.
STRONG 8! I can see you took your time deciding this one :D I personally loved it at first listen and just HAD to turn the volume up. I loved the intricacies and details that you can easily miss if you're not listening closely. I REQUEST you review Toe - The Future Is Now EP.
Still on the fence about hot chip, If you enjoy synth pop maybe check out stuff like the octopus project, crystal castles, blackbird blackbird, hammock.
Review Light bearer - lapsus or Her name is calla - The Quiet lamb If the tracks "thief" or "prelapsus" wont give you chills i dunno what will, seriously.
Adventure Time shirt?? I knew we were kindred spirits. If they ever release an album of all those great songs from Adventure Time (a la "Strong Bad Sings"), you should review it.
i don't know if its too late for these, but I would love to hear a review of either andrew bird's break it yourself, or sweet sour by band of skulls :D
I know that you mostly deal with albums of the "indie persuasion". However, I'd love if you reviewed Green Day's American Idiot. It's one of the albums I really loved when I was younger, and is coming back to me. I feel that it's unappreciated in some sense as a real artistic achievement.
I'm 19 (not sure if that's what you'd consider young), and I just have been connecting with American Idiot in a whole new way now. was just tossing it out there for consideration. Everything that isn't post AI was pretty much great in my opinion. Their new album was a big disappointment to me.
@theneedledrop Didn't you mean to put "strong 7" at 5:21 instead of "strong 8"? Also, major respect points for the Adventure Time shirt in the beginning of this video. *salutes you*
The video says strong 8, yet the description says 7. DOUBLE STANDARD! But im digging this album a lot personally. Its just one of those feel good albums. I like all of hot chips work, and i definitely agree with you when you say there are a few songs on here that just dont work. I dont like Night and Day. But when you sang the refrain from motion sickness it sounded JUST like the song itself with your editing. Live long and prosper. and review the scissor sister album and rip it apart
I don't know what that means, but if you're not gonna review it then please review or at least listen to Anna von Hausswolffs new album Ceremony which came out today, it's amazing.
Flutes is an amazing song
hey, it's cool. opinions, right? i still love you and appreciate you watching, supporting, and caring. :-)
yeah, my mind was thinking one thing, but my heart another.
😳
i thought the song was ok. just not one of my favs. i did say the diffs between this album are subtle. i guess this one might be a little dancier, sure, but it's not like a night & day thing. i think hot chip are staying true to their path.
Theneedle: "feeling a strong 7 to a light 8"
The Screen: STRONG 8
considering hot chip has climbed numerous charts around the world, i don't see them as being that "underground."
i know their older stuff is a bit more rough around the edges, but even that stuff have a fun attitude. i don't think their lack of danger is a bad thing. really, i just wish their vocals had a bit more personality is all.
hope you dig!
Dude These Chains is perfect IMO. I love that song. Different strokes!
not sure. i'd have to listen to some of his new stuff.
it is.
yay.
i thought the track was OK. just not sticking out to me. there are bouncier tracks on this album to me.
it's true!
i try.
Ah thank you so much for reviewing this Anthony! Now I can stop bugging you everywhere! But no mention of 'Flutes', the centrepiece and juggernaut track of this album!?! I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on it. Glad to hear you ended up warming up to it!
I saw a video of Hot Chip performing "I Feel Better" live in Sydney and have been a fan ever since.
PS Great "Motion Sickness" harmony in there :)
i'll look them up.
indeed.
i missed out on that one last year, sorry. didn't love it that much, though. some stand-out tracks, but not one of my favs. :-/
i can't. copyright issues. :-S
thx.
no, not at the moment. :-S
i'm sorta thinking about it. it's coming out at the end of this month, right?
they keep slipping on my face because i'm getting all sweaty in this summer heat.
it's cray!
have fun!
'tis.
no, no. i'm just being attracted by other albums at the moment.
SOOOOO LOOOOONG.
i meant 7. sorry. :-S
are you just trying to get me to review it negatively or something? be honest.
it does. i think my mind was saying one thing and my heart was saying another.
i give it "strong 7 to a light 8" - Strong 8 appears on the screen. fyi Anthony, that review was legit, and those vocal inputs you've recently started to make are tight :D
“These chains is amazing! Super smooth melody and a great beat!”
“Oh yeah and it’s the worst one.”
Easily one of my favourite albums ever! Every song is amazing
Sure. Could be a GREATEST HITS album
they have a new one?
you gave it a strong 7 but then showed a strong 8! oooops. thanks for the review as always. short and sweet and well-articulated.
my heart said one thing, my brain another. what can i do?
hmmmmm.
June third happened approximately twenty-six days ago, my friend. But thanks for the heads-up about Periphery, I enjoyed their first album.
and i'm glad you like it. :-)
haha, it's true.
Hot Chip will always be one of my favorite bands. And I agree that these tracks are very universally made to where I could play this to a 6 or 60 year perfectly fine. But "Flutes"...that track is amazing. I love that track to death.
i think it's ok. just not one of my favs. *shrugs*
STRONG 8! I can see you took your time deciding this one :D I personally loved it at first listen and just HAD to turn the volume up. I loved the intricacies and details that you can easily miss if you're not listening closely. I REQUEST you review Toe - The Future Is Now EP.
you guys really miss it, don't you?
my GF got it for me, not sure.
Still on the fence about hot chip, If you enjoy synth pop maybe check out stuff like the octopus project, crystal castles, blackbird blackbird, hammock.
Thanks for reviewing. I thought you would eventually but I requested it as well.
i think they're cute.
now I want to know who the groups are that you do really like from the genre
ouch.
Review Light bearer - lapsus or Her name is calla - The Quiet lamb
If the tracks "thief" or "prelapsus" wont give you chills i dunno what will, seriously.
"The world is round"
That was just beautiful, Anthony.
Fun fact, this video is shorter than flutes
that shirt you're wearing in the intro is awesome
yep, my GF got it for me.
lolololol. so sorry. i fucked up. i meant 7.
Adventure Time shirt?? I knew we were kindred spirits. If they ever release an album of all those great songs from Adventure Time (a la "Strong Bad Sings"), you should review it.
it's a bit old to review, i'm sorry, man. :-(
ooo you know what album you should listen to? alabama shakes "boys and girls". i found it really good. have a listen
my gf got it for me. :-0
wow, totally passed over this album. Listening now!
Hot chips "all killer, no filler" shows a great contrast from where they are to where they've come
Forever.
i don't know if its too late for these, but I would love to hear a review of either andrew bird's break it yourself, or sweet sour by band of skulls :D
Total Recall Commercial !!YEA-ah!! Tell the powers that be that they nailed my demographic Anthony.
Would you review a Buckethead album? maybe his newest wedge "Balloon Cement".
S'no prob. I'm happy simply enjoying it.
I know that you mostly deal with albums of the "indie persuasion".
However, I'd love if you reviewed Green Day's American Idiot.
It's one of the albums I really loved when I was younger, and is coming back to me.
I feel that it's unappreciated in some sense as a real artistic achievement.
Try Bethany Weimers - Harpsichord Row, really nice little indie release.
Also, bring back Y u no review

lol...I wonder if people ever even look through past reviews before they request. That one was done very shortly after it came out. Go check it out.

I tend to prefer them live than in-studio. Except the vocals, that is.
