"Diminishing returns" often describes more expensive gear. And it's true to a certain extent. But when you factor in service, support and longevity then it's a no brainer.
@@tonyrapa-tonyrapa and the amount of diminishing returns you tolerate is dependent on why you’re recording.
If you want to make music as a lifelong career, you understand the value of that extra 5%.
But if you record yourself as a means to save money, don’t let that 5% hold you back from making great records with what you have. :)
@@englishoakrecording I agree with this. But I think the difference is bigger than 5%. It really is.

I own an ass load of high-end gear. It is way more satisfying to deal with real nice hardware. That may be expensive, but I treat them like they are lifetime purchases. By once cry, once sort of mentality. But then I have these tools that last me a lifetime. And there is so much more satisfaction in grabbing a real piece of gear and making it do what it was intended to do versus grabbing your mouse and turning A software emulation of a knob. Those of you that bash on nice gear more than likely can’t afford the real stuff and have never had a chance to use it. In my studio, I have half a dozen young engineers that come in that grew up doing stuff mostly all in the box. And every single one of them will tell you now that it’s more fun and more rewarding to use real high end gear.
If felt like I was hitting the ceiling then either I can jump really high or I am in the basement and then like why am I in that basement? Think about it.

Which DA converter with most accurate monitoring would you recommend for mixing / mastering on headphones with no hardware ?
Was thinking about Lynx Hilo 2, or RME / Prism ..

I haven't used either of those converters personally, but I've really enjoyed working on my Lynx system. :)
Your studio is very beautiful
I went from cheaper audio interfaces to RME, two years. I’m seriously killing myself for not doing it sooner. I had years of repairs, driver issues, and completely breaking cheaper or cheap interfaces.
So excited everytime a new video drops. You’re doing a great thing and keen to check out the studio if im ever in the area!

nice, this is like asmr meditation for producers 😅 sub & like. I upgradet my studio last week with a RME UCX II, I think one of the best for that money. I'm using a RME Hdspe AIO since 2008 and it works finde in WIndows, but no more on Mac. So I got the upgrade.
And no, expensive hardware is not necessarily better. Maybe it is better processed, so it has a better appearance, but the sound still makes the music ;-) 99% of people listen to the music and not the sound. Nobody listens to a Neve mixer or similar and anyone who says they do is fooling themselves. The test is simple: just give anyone who claims this 5 identical pieces of music and ask them to guess which ones were produced with the most expensive hardware (or software). Mixed and mastered by a professional, of course.
RME checks the boxes for me. Superior sound quality, excellent build of product made to last and tech support for many years.

Very true indeed. What are your thoughts on Wes Audio gear with the digital recall? Or more importantly a company like Bettermaker. If they stop supporting the system, your money is burnt.
The Wes Audio gear can function just fine without the plugin.
@@Mike-vr7mb Anything digital I come to terms with losing that amount of money in X amount of years. So if it’s a new plugin for $30 I come to terms that it may not be supported in a handful of years.
Might sound a little crazy but as someone who had to purchase a lot of plug ins again when the M1 chips came on the scene, I’m cautious! Haha
If the gear gets you the sound you need, and the cost is worth it to you, I say go for whatever floats your boat!

Deal with protools better buy a carbon
For some reason having an Avid interface gives me the heebie jeebies. We all know how good Avid tech support is. 🤦🏻♂

Yea dont buy gear just to look cool or say u have it learn how tl use us your tools corretly and u realize u dont need those thousands of plugins or tons of gear. Remember all the music we really love was recorded with minimal gear cuz thats all that was availabe at that time all this tech has clouded yalls mind with lies.
Nah man cause most the music we all really love was made with equipment that the average person can’t afford anymore but used to be able to afford back when it was released. All this new technology made it possible for someone like me or you possibly who doesn’t have this kind of studio to start making music from a laptop.
And without technology most of y’all fall apart lol most of y’all music producers don’t even know music theory. Not to mention don’t play any real instruments or even read sheet music but that’s for another day. 😂
Yeah, but if you’re a gear guy, why not buy all of the good shit if you can afford it? It’s funny because nobody bashes on Guitar Player’s for buying high-end boutique amps… But then they turn around and bash on me because I’m using more real hardware than I am plug-ins
