Hey, congrats on achieving the studio dream! I’m sure it feels amazing to finally have a great space to work in. Quick question, what desk is that, because it’s beautiful!!
Thank you! The desk is a custom build by a good friend of mine. We based it off my old desk, which was an Ultimate Support Nucleus Z desk. I really disliked how wobbly the old desk was, so with this desk the idea was to make a more solid version.
I truly love the knowledge you share here ❤ This channel is destined for great things/ let's just take it one student at a time.. love from South Africa
The link to your studio website doesn't work :(
Fixed! 👷
Right there close to our nation's capital. Basically Washington. The other other Washington.
@@travisraab Haha Love your videos! Thank you for watching :)
I have a question unrelated to the video. Do you notice a diminished performance by placing the Focal Alphas sideways? I have the same monitors and the tweeter is too high for my ears but I read in the manual and elsewhere that placing them sideways can cause comb filtering since they weren't designed to be used horizontally. Thanks for the great content!
@@lucapayetmusic5413 Thanks for the compliment and for phrasing this question kindly! If I did place them horizontally it would be upside down as the tweeter would be closer to the level of my ear that way. Since receiving a few comments about this I’ve considered trying them out upside down. Ironically, I received one negative comment previously about their placement, and I believe I’d receive more if they were upside down. Haha That’s the way of the internet.
@@englishoakrecording Haha damned if you do, damned if you don't. I've considered putting my gear in a side rack and placing the Alphas on monitor stands slightly above the desk. Right now I have them angled slightly downwards but that also causes some issues with reflections on the desk.
perfect as always
@@beaulangdon5532 Thank you so much, Beau!
This is amazing Jacob ! The simplicity you implement in your workflow is inspiring. Can't wait for more content man!
Hey Man, Love the Desk and the tips you provided. Would you be able to send the blueprints for the desk if you built it yourself? or if you brought it, can you let me know where? would love to implement a similar setup!
Thank you. :) It was made custom by BILT Furniture. Here's the link to their instagram: instagram.com/biltfurniture?igsh=aHcxMzR5ZWdmYmpy
Thanks for yr videos! Can you tell us in the next one how did u learn the stuff, when did u start, why do you have a studio now, and who you are? Thx! :D
What is the name of your monitor speakers
They're Focal Alpha 65's. Focal now sells them as "Focal Alpha Evo" monitors. They look a little different but I'm sure they're similar!
neat desk man. can you give the dimensions?
Does Melodyne make it quicker to even out the volume levels so you don't have to do it manually?
You could use Melodyne to adjust the gain of your vocal. It's not what I do, but that doesn't mean that it's not a valid way to even out the vocal. :)
Awesome video as always! Thank you, Jacob - definitely going to set this up in my studio.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Great stuff brotha!
Thank you! :)
Brilliant! Straight to the point, informative & simple to follow for a simpleton like me! haha 😁 Don't know how you only have 386 subscribers as you deserve more! 🔥
I love this, thanks ❤
Thank you!
Great stuff man
im not sure about uad, but for most you can hold shift or ctrl to adjust input and output at the same time. cheers
Awesome video
Thank you!
Fucking fantastic, so many great tips in less than 10 minutes.
Thanks so much!
God bless you brother. It’s refreshing to see a creator deliver quality advice and content from the ground up. With your professionalism, I’m sure your subscribers will be more than you can count!
Those speakers shouldn’t be placed sideways. I mean they can… but they can’t
Good, you literally just said it doesn’t matter 😂
@@audionerdlilcuz you won’t be breaking any laws or harming anyone, but you will be getting terrible horizontal dispersion out of the speaker, which is critical. If you get amphion one15 or one18 you can place those sideways. But you really want a coaxial speaker
@dougleydorite maybe they are just to monitor certain frequencies from a near field perspective and he can only get it by turning them the way he has them. There are no real rules in the audio profession.
@@jmoemorris4133 correct. They can… but they can’t
Oh no it's not "perfect" according to marketed information
song? (guitar also needs some reverb)
The song is "Lugares Escondidos" by Lily Graciela. She came in for overdubs, and produced and mixed the rest of the track herself. Go check it out!
Capitol Chambers by UAD is one of the best out there
In a situation where I'm using reverb as send effect, what would you say is the difference between using the reverb plug-in built-in filter (or EQ) and putting an EQ before the reverb plug-in? How do the two techniques affect the mix?
When I'm dialing in a reverb I use the filter available on the plug in. Which I'm assuming is pre-reverb. I find myself reaching for EQ post reverb if the reverb is impacting an already dense mix. Usually there's a low mid build up I'm addressing.
OH man i learnt so much from this video! subscribed
i cant hear the reverbs 😢
Get your ears checked 😔🪦
600Hz, with that steep of a slope, with those verbs... don't they sound wispy, insubstantial to you? Maybe try a bit of Goldplate on those vox instead, a little drive, no compresion, set the HPF between 200-300, LPF 1k-3k... it'll sound so much more plush and vibey. May not be your thing, I like things on the warmer/fuller side. Add a little feedback delay pre-verb, get that Nigel Godrich vibe happening fast :-)
Such high quality content. No bias just good information
great info, but video audio is too low ;)

Thank you!
What Focal speakers are those!?
Focal Alpha 65's. I believe they're rebranded as Focal Alpha Evos these days.
that vocal sounds so good already and when you added that 1176… 🔥
Thank you! The goal is to make it sound as good as it can upfront.
You can DRAW the waveform in pro tools?!?!?!?!
Just use isotope mouth de click it’s insanely good
Audio suite
Big fan of iZotope products. Personally I'd rather show people the tools we already have before recommending a new plug in purchase.
I do the same… I teach as well.
With out the before click it’s just a fish story.
🐟
@@englishoakrecording don’t worry, brother we take your word for it clicks are part of the nature and we got to get Em!
I personally use izotopes de clicker, sometimes there’s that stubborn click right in the middle of a vocal there has even been times. I’ve had to send it through a couple times to get that dang click out.✊🏽
@@sirvaant 100% iZotope products are really great at getting clicks in the middle of phrases.

Great walk-through. Learned some new things. Subbed. Thank you!
You're welcome and thank you!
Cool vid going to check out more.
Would've been nice to include the thing you're fixing in the short. So we can hear the before and after.
I agree
Double agree
yeah definitely. it definitely defeats the purpose of the short to not include that. also judging by the waveform itself, it wouldn't even be that serious of an issue, as there is no steep vertical line, so whatever click was there wouldn't be that high of a frequency to worry about. they didn't even adjust frequency, just the amplitude.
You can hear the before audio, and more in the related video.
@@englishoakrecording I specifically wrote "in the short". Viewers got no reason to click to another video and look for this specific moment if they aren't even sure what issue you're fixing and whether it would be useful for them.
looking forward to more videos
? i dont get it

Newbie producer/mixer (but long-time singer/songwriter) here👋 Curious why de-easing manually is preferable instead of with a plug-in just throughout? I guess so it’s not too intense throughout? Sorry if that’s a dumb question! Total newb and trying to learn all I can😊
I find the end result to be a lot more controlled sounding when I manually de-ess, but there's certainly time's where I'll use a plug in too. I wanted to highlight the detail manually de-ssing could bring to a mix because a lot of people who do what we do often chase the next piece of gear or plug in. "If only I had this new de-esser my vocals would sound perfect" But in reality we already have the tools right in front of us! Thanks for asking :)
great content big ups!!
I just wanted to say your studio is sooo beautifully decorated! Congrats
Thank you!
One of the best TH-cam tutorials I have seen; thank you for taking the time to share Jacob. Very detailed explanation not only on the tools, but as to the reason why, with clear examples to emphasise the reason why. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Peter!
Well, I got it and makes perfect sense to me! Thanks for sharing that! I love the clip preset option, I don't think that's in Logic but could possibly automate it. Anyway, thanks for sharing! :)
In Logic look through the pointer tool selection options. Shortcut is "T" to open the pointer tool selection. There should be a gain tool. :)
Teach us about vocal reverb, delay, saturation and parallel compression and share some presets
Agreed - honestly not enough quality videos out there covering reverb and its intricacies. Plenty of "sidechain your reverb to your lead vocal"... tired of that one.
Heard! 🤝
@@englishoakrecordingyes parallel compression would be great
