@@shellyweiers121 The truck is nice, and would be a good match for a 2 stroke, but it isn't one, so I'm afraid that unless he wants to swap in a 2 stroke, it's an irrelevant flipper. The thing to do is quickly get it functional enough for a buyer to drive it home and flip.
@@shellyweiers121 If the engine was dead, then swapping in a 2 stroke would be practical, but the engine is good, so it isn't, and 4 stroke trucks are OT. Another reason to flip is because the truck is better off in a state that allows that drop axle, including Mexico is necessary.
Man, that Mack Wrecker is gorgeous!! What a unit..🤩 ...and speaking of units, I can't believe that 3406 cranked right off after sitting for 20+ years! Actually, when you first popped the hood, I half expected to see a 6-71 or an 8V71 lurking under there. At least it appears to be old enough to not have all the common rail crap that's on Cat motors now. The fan and associated parts should be fairly easy to locate. It would probably be beneficial to roll that cab off of there and drop something nice on it (later model daycab maybe?)

My first rig had a B model under the hood. Fantastic engines. Simple, reliable and make a wonderful noise. Not surprise at all she kicked over. Awesome score, glad you were able to save her. And even if the rest of her is junk, a clean running B model is worth well more than you paid.
That was the craziest thing I have seen in a long time, the differentials are Eaton 44's, from the quick look of the front diff on the right side the 2 speed shift motor opening had a block off plate on it. So you have a couple possibilities, a single speed in a 2 speed housing or a 2 speed locked in low, but they are 44,000 # axles. The front diff is the early 44 with the small round oil pump on the power divider, it may have a broken interaxle differential or broken output shaft.
Our 5 year eager beaver trailer breaks lock up if it sits through a rainy day in the summer… and this thing runs and drives. Where has this world come to. Amazing 🙌🏽

Bibeau heated dump body, good score. They last one I used had a single chamber brake canister to release and lock the gate. A buddy of mine stole the idea for his truck and put a parking brake canister on his so if an air line broke the gate wouldn't pop

What's cool is Paccar headquarters is located about 75 miles from me! Glad to see a General saved from the scrappers!

Ever since Smokey and the Bandit 2 I’ve had a weird soft spot for Generals. Seemed to have a nice cab for their day. Quad headlight 5 star Generals could be had loaded up with power windows and locks. What a sweet score Wayne!

When you first discovered the dash switch for the 8LL transmission, it was like the deep reduction switch on my 9500 with 915 Filler. Nice that your tow crew buddies stuck around to help explain some of the unique advancements by GMC ........including the cables for top stud sealed batteries. that came out in the late '60s . I thought you might upgrade dumps from your Brockway . One of the best gifts you could imagine when you got this tip !

Sometimes it's entertaining and educational to watch a guy be compelled to beat on something for hours in a Will It Run, spending time and cash, sending the injector pump to Area Diesel Service for a rebuild, etc. In this case, it was gratifying to know you not only saved this gal from being shredded and sent to the chicoms but that it fired up almost effortlessly. Good on ya, Wayne. Nice way to start off the long weekend.
Part of it is its previous owner had the foresight to properly treat the fuel so it wouldn't break down and attract water. Power Service makes excellent fuel additives used them for years from on the farm to 18 wheelers.
I always thought they were some of the sharpest looking trucks of their day, I hate that most of them rotted away in the weeds or turned to shredder metal. Hopefully you can get it fixed up Wayne 🤘🏼

My uncle had 2 Brigadiers on his farm when I was growing up. I would go work on the farm with him for the summers. The cool thing was about these 2 Brigadiers is that he converted the axles to take the same size tire that a combine takes on the front.. You know the REAL big tires.. Well he had the Brigadiers set up with 4 of those huge tires on them... and a spray take with a boom.. He used it for spraying . They were beasts! 2 strokes .. All red.
Old semi trucks can sometimes be had very cheap. There hard to drive n require all kinds a stuff to drive legally. I once bought a 1994 fld 120. Pretty good running 3406 n 18 speed.tossed batteries in n drove it home. 2k.
I drove a 1982 5 Star General for right at 10yr. It had a big cam 400 Cummins with a 13 speed transmission. Triple framed with big bogie suspension in the rear. Toughest truck I ever drove and I drove for 30 years. Wrecked it which we got it fixed back but it was never the same.
I have no idea why anyone would want to scrap that. Thank you for saving it.
