@@NunYaBiz1313no. You’re referring to rote memorization. Learning isn’t a passive activity, it’s an active one. If you’re not paying attention much that’s essentially passivity which is what the original comment is referring to indirectly.

I’m 94 and have hd an incredible adventurous life. But it’s not over and tonight I learned some more strategies to get to the end by living in the moment. More aware. More focused. Less anxiety more in the now. And have Ben reminded again that even though I’ve spent all these years losing things. I don’t HAVE to . I can choose ways to stop! It’s not too late. Thank you!!!!!!

Trauma and brain injury are closely tied. As Jim was expressing loosely his accident in childhood, the changes in his learning and "personality" sounded at least as tied to the emotional experience as the physical.
The longer I listen and study what I do, the more I understand "injury" overall and the ways of healing.
Thank you for sharing your process.

A great method of teasing a forgotten name out of your mind is to go through the alphabet. Start by saying " A" then "B" "C" etc. You will be amazed how often your brain is triggered by si ply listing all the letters of the alphabet.

These days of over information, it's a precious secret to forget. Discernment is needed. I meet many people and forget names. But I talk with them without hesitation and inconvenience. Some call out by saying "hey", "you". If needed, I ask the name.

I used to have an open book in at least 4 rooms in the house. Whenever I paused long enough to read, I would open the book to where I left off and continue reading, knowing what the book was about, understanding each characters place, etc. Lord, to be able to do that now. I struggle to remember what I enter a room for.

Jim, In as little time as a day I have began to read faster than I thought I ever could! I have never been a reader, and rarely read any books all the way through. As I’ve gotten older I have a greater desire to learn and change. However, my inability to read faster and comprehend what I’d just read kept me from gaining the knowledge of my hearts desire… well until now! You are my lifesaver 🛟. I cannot say enough to thank you! 😊

I suffer immensely with retaining information and was hoping this will help me with some basic techniques however i’m struggling to accept how its going to make a difference without going through some basic memory techniques. Sure it was a good interactive presentation making us believe everything is possible with effort and self believe but i kind of knew that already. your a great presenter and story teller Jim.

I wish I was addicted to reading. I just started making it a point to read this year. I have a pretty decent vocabulary and can read just fine it's just that I never would actually sit down and read a book on my own time. I'm glad I started this year though it's been fantastic. Been reading a lot of philosophy and have some economic books ready to read after I'm done. I have a tough time remembering what I read though. My goal is to one day be able read and retain most of the information without having to keep re-reading and writing things down all the time.

So much information to learn, to keep in my little brain but it was very interesting. Thank you so much. Mr. Jim you are so knowledgeable for someone who was about to give up in school. When I heard you say that I could really relate to it. It reminded me of me. I too struggled in school and had a very hard time with retention and comprehension. I saved your video so That I can watch it over and over. Again, it was very interesting. Thank you for all the information.

Jim, before I knew who you were, I began to plan a club for children to memorize scripture easily and retain in in order to get through their teens in this topsy turvy world. What a blessing to find you and your trainings to help me since I'm in my late 70's (and I mean LATE) and very forgetful myself. My question: how do I know how much of your tips and tricks are considered common knowledge? (If I find it in three other places it becomes common knowledge.) so that I don't have to worry about using your stuff and getting sued. Some I recognize as being written about before since I follow Daniel Amen and Tana Killing ants , brain health diet, associations/relationships/keep learning/ ... Of course, I will name you and recommend you to the parents of my club members.

By the way, I cried when I heard your story. I would be a different person now if I had any self-confidence while I was in school. I would have been so much more involved in learning, doing homework, extra-curricular activities, but it's not too late now. It might be a little late for horseback-riding. :)Thanks so much for your help. I am a member of Mind Valley and learning to juggle. After watching this video I will practice every day throwing that sock in the right direction.
