Keeping your Ninja Foodi pressure cooker clean is a lot easier than it seems. It doesn't really get that dirty if you just doing steam cleaning once in a while. I made this video to cover cleaning it when it gets really gnarly (if ever). Hope ths Helps! If you liked this video, you might like this pressure cooker comparison as well: th-cam.com/video/z_naSO8W5IA/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video Joe! Upgraded to the SmartLid last year and while I do really enjoy it, I wish it had the grate/grill/cover/whatever that the old two-lid Foodi has. 99% of what I do is pressure cooking, and the coil seems to get really dirty, is it possible to remove the coil for a deep clean?
I have the same model as you. As a rule, I disciplined myself (willingly or not) 😞to clean the inside top with a warm washcloth every time I use it and it still looks practically new after a year. By doing so I only have to do light maintenance cleaning once in awhile to keep it looking new. I also use the steam function with water and lemon intermittently. I have to say that regular nonstick pots and pans are easier to keep up but they only have one function and usually require more than one pot to cook, so you are washing a bit there too. I do have a question though, do you have any solution for the stain the inner pot acquires over time? It also does not appear to be as nonstick as it used to be? More frequently I am having to deglaze, soak and scrub the inside pot with a scrubber than I used to. I did think that perhaps I should only expect a years worth of a nice looking pot and just invest in a new one once a year or so, but I hate to do that if there is a solution. Thank you... I did very much enjoy your video!
Hi! Thanks for the kind words! I noticed that when we did the cleaning video, the lid wasn't really dirty at all, so I was cleaning something that was pretty clean already. Pretty impressed with that since I use it quite a bit. Mostly just a little splatter on the electric coil. We do steam cleaning with a little lemon juice every so often though, so evidently that really does work well. On your inner pot, what do you do to clean that? Does it ever go in the dishwasher? If so, dishwashers are really bad for nonstick surfaces.. On the stains, have you tried letting it soak in white vinegar and lemon juice over night? That might get those stains off. Also be sure to use a scrubber that's safe for nonstick surfaces. You're right about those surfaces only lasting a little white though. I know that most nonstick pans end up pretty messed up within about 2 yrs or so... I though about getting a stainless steel tub to replace mine once it started getting messed up.
@@JoesPhenomenal Thank you for your prompt reply! As far as your questions, I am the dishwasher, I don't have one so I am not tempted to use. ;-) I have not tried the vinegar soak, that sounds like a very good idea and I will try that. Yesterday morning I did do a soak with denture cleaner and it might have worked a tad, but not nearly enough. Now I'm on a mission to find a solution for the stained pot and perhaps bring back the nonstick quality! Thank you for your time.
Hello Joe. Your videos are great. But I have used my new Foodi OL601 twice. Both times after washing the silicone seal, it took both me and my husband over 1/2 an hour to get the dang thing back in. It seems to get stuck around those corner wires. Makes me afraid to use it again because it's too hard to get the ring back on! Frustrated. I tried calling Ninja, but the call keeps getting disconnected. Do you think rubbing olive oil around it would help? Looks so easy when you do it. Someone help!! Please??
The oil might help a little. It does have some friction there when you are putting in in until those notches line up though. You know it's in there right when it suddenly can turn more freely. I'll look at it again and see if I was doing something subconsciously that made it easier.
I am a new user. I forgot to put the vent on searl while on pressure cooking a lentil soup. When I realized it wasn't on seal but on vent it was already spraying thick water. I turned off the machine and slid the slider to open. Then entire inner hood is full of the 'gunk' from the lentil that cooked. How do I clean the the inner hood? Every part is covered by 'the gunk'. Thank you. Your youtube was helpful in getting me started. Should I steam clean it? also how do i clean the outside vent piece. Thank you again
Which machine do you have? Does yours have the black grill on it that covers up the fan, or do you have the smartlid one where it's all just open in the top?
Nice video thanks, and I’ll be following your advice when I get my Ninja properly up and running again. For now though, I have what I think is the problem for the fan not turning on the Ninja Foodie Max OL750UK. I am sure it’s the thermal link fuse which has blown in the lid, but I have so far not worked out how to get to it. Any ideas please ? The manufacturers have so far tried to get me to buy a complete new item, but for a £2 thermal link fuse I am clearly not going to be buying a new Ninja. Thanks in advance.
Hmmm.... I would think that a thermal fuse would be in the body on the pressure cooker instead of the lid... Usually they are down in the bottom someplace, but I don't know if Ninja does those differently.
When i want to clean my microwave, i put a glass bowl with water and lemon juice in it and heat it up in the microwave to steam up the inside and soften the grime on the inside. It's easy to clean then. Can you apply the same process and put water and lemon in the pan and then pressure cook it to soften the grime and clean the coil and fan? I just got mine yesterday and i haven't used it yet.
Yep usiing that to clean the pressure cooker works too. You can do that on the pressure setting or the steam setting and I feel like they both work pretty well as long as you haven't let the thing get too grimey
So I took my foodie out of the cabinet today. And my seal/vent knob was no longer attached to the pressure cooker lid. Can it be put back on/is this normal? Or is it broken now. Thanks
Got this from the Ninja Kitchen website: "The pressure lid and all its components, cooking pot, silicone ring, Deluxe Reversible Rack, Cook & Crisp™ Basket, and detachable diffuser can be washed in the dishwasher." I personally don't recommend that as I don't like putting plastics in there, but Ninja does say it's safe.
That's why Joe I will never buy this kind of device, it requires too much cleaning. Just my little 3 quart pressure cooker, I've had enough. but thanks for the advice!
No problem! They don't really need that type of cleaning too often... At least mine doesn't, but it can depending on what gets cooked in there. Definitely, the more complex the device is, the bigger a pain in the butt it can be to clean, though. I was surprised my lid was already to clean.. That's the only time I've ever cleaned it that thoroughly, and it didn't really need it... So I suppose that's promising. Lol
Thx for the video but..... I'm water challenged .. I have to haul it in, therefore don't waste even an ounce... Also has raised my awareness of how precious it really is.... Hey.. Excellent points. Not taken as judgement at all. It's good to hear different perspectives. Really makes you think. For our water out here, I live over in Las Vegas. Our city has become not only the most water efficient city in the United States, but one of the tops in the world. Everyone thinks we get a lot of water from the Colorado River, but here, almost 100% of our water is processed, cleaned, and returned to the system amazingly clean. As a result, water that we put in drains or flushed never becomes waste. It's really amazing when you check out the engineering. That being said, probably not a good idea to be complacent with it either. Bless you!
I think that might be a part that you cna order from ninja... If so, it should be able to be removed and put back on you would think. Try looking inside the lid where the pressure valve is. There is a little silver can that can removed there for cleaning. If you pop that off, you might be able to see in there if there is a screw holding it on. If that part popped off from the top, I dunno if the plans ic has been cracked or something.. If not z it might just pop back on possibly. I'll have to look at mine and see.
Thank you for the video. Just wanted to add that installing that black rubber seal, wasn’t easy. It took about half an hour for me! A tip: when you are trying to install it, rotate it sequentially, specially on the screw area because there is less space to pass the the seal.
Hi thank you. I have recently bought the Smart Lid Ninja Foodi. I had used it maybe 10 timEs (air fryer for fries). The I tried a recipe which was 3 hours pressure cooking bone marrow with plenty of liquid, seasoning g and some veg. All good. But when a few days later I wanted to survey again, it was smoking and smelling so bad, it set my alarm off. I am so scared to remove rubber fi ga, and do I got co fused I. Your video about whether you were cleaning the old Foodi model or the Smart Lid Foodi. There is no grill on mine. Do I really have to remove rubber seal and pressure thing ?
You don't have to remove those. I just did that to show that you can. They weren't dirty at all when I took them off. I bet that you have some dry food stuck to the coils or something like that... or maybe on the outside of the pot on the bottom or on the heatiing element underneath... just a guess!
Hi, just FYI I had the same smelly smoke issue after a high liquid pork pressure cooker dish. I put in 200ml of room temp water in the cook pot, and turned on for 3 minutes (using air fryer setting) - and the smoke immediately stopped. I could then just air fry my steak as normal!
I though ti mentioned that in there, but definitely you are correct if you need to send it in for warranty service and they notice. No way for them to tell if you are careful though. With those older models, there isn't much other way to get it clean behind that grate though, so you are kinda forced to do that if it get dirty enough.
@@JoesPhenomenal I'm comparing the Instant Pot Duo Crisp/Duo Crisp Ultimate to the Ninja Foodi OL601 and OL701...do you have any knowledge of the differences and pros/cons of either? @@JoesPhenomenal Also, you might have mentioned it in the video and I just didn't hear it. I was trying to watch your video, deal with my very energetic and talkative toddler, feed my cats and do the dishes all at the same time so I was a little distracted to say the least. 😂
@amysnews6808 ninja had always been more feature rich, but that cleaning thing can be a pain in the neck. I don't get why they can't address that a little better. I haven't done much with the Instapots yet, so I'm not sure, but I do know they are easier to clean.
THat could be trouble for sure.. However, that old style grate is almost impossible to get really clean back behind it, so in my case I wouldn't mind taking that chance if it helps avoid the bacteria. Really wish they would have designed that machine a little more cleaning friendly. Ninja has been kinda funny about that over the years.
Will be OK to just do that last part where you steam it instead of taking it apart. I’m afraid that I’ll forget how everything goes. I’ll have to record myself lol
Joe, I bought the Ninja Foodi OL601 XL 8 qt last month. The fan does not seem to work for "Air Fry" mode. I get heat, but do not hear sound of fan. Browning of foods doesn't work on "Air Fry" mode. Any idea what it could be? It's only a moth old. I think it worked in the beginning. Everything else seems to be working - e.g., pressure cooker, steam crisp, etc.
@@celineferdinand6944 you got it! If you just got it a couple of weeks ago, I wouldn't even bother calling Ninja about it... I'd just exchange it with the retailer, and let them deal with the manufacturer... Much easier for you, I think.
HELP. I was cooking oatmeal in my ninja foodi and it boiled over because I had it too high. It got under the pot in the heater unit. Most of it came out of the overflow holder and out the bottom. How to I get the rest out ? How do I clean it out? I’ve seen many cleaning videos for the lids but not for this help 😢
That bottom part doesn't really come apart...are you talking about inside the outer pot down underneath the heating element? If so, I would let it dry out, clear out as much as you can reach, and I would go get a can of compressed air and try to shoot it out with the little straw on it... That might do it?
@@JoesPhenomenal yes under the removable pot & under the heating unit. Thanks, the air compressor helped! I didn’t wait till it dried though. I took dry papertowels and made a little pad with it. I kept sticking it around the inside heating unit to soak up as much possible. Then I noticed the bottom panel only had one tiny screw to remove the panel. Removed it and used the air compressor on the other side around heating unit. The air pressure pushed the rest of the oatmeal out the bottom and I cleaned it all up with cotton swabs and dry papertowel. It was a mess! I let it sit 48 hours to dry after I cleaned it. Used it several times after and it works fine, YAY. Note: I wouldn’t recommend removing bottom panel because that’s where electrical wires are and I’m not an expert. You know fires & electric shock. I did everything at my own risk. Just have to throw that out there. Again, thanks for the air pressure advice. That did the trick.
A lot of times they sure do.... The pressure cooker doesn't need that kind of cleaning too often though, so it's not terrible. But I see what you mean!
@JoesPhenomenal, I can’t get the anti-clog cap to come off, I tried following the instructions and did the clockwise twisting motion and it made it tighter. Even when I was doing that it would just pop off. What do I Donnie that it too tight to come off?
Hey Joe! Thanks for a great video demo. I have a slight problem which I hope you or someone can help me with. I was going to cook some rice in the Ninja smartlid cooker and my Granddaughter God bless her wanted to help by pouring the rice. So I took out the pot and moved it closer to where she was but instead of putting the rice in that pot she poured it into the base. Oh boy, lol. I've tried tilting it and using the crevice tool on the vacuum to get out the rice but there's still so much under the plate that I just can't seem to get out. Any ideas? I sent a message in to Ninja support asking what I can do, it's been just over a week now and no reply. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance! 🙏

Hey Joe! I just wanted to update you on the situation. A Ninja Customer Representative got in touch with me and they are going to replace the unit for me. Which has left me completely speechless. The whole incident was our fault but they're being so kind and replacing it. I don't even know what to say... That is just above and beyond customer service. Mine has a grill cover for the heating element on top, do i remove that? Its not the one you show in the video its for the smartlid XL with the probe, im confused why you dont have that in yours
The XL version is a little bigger than mine and mine doesn't have the probe. The grill cover show just have a handful of those screws I mentioned in the video holding it in place. If you remove those, it should come right off, but I did notice that on mine, It didn't get really dirty up in there at all, so you might not even need to. Those lids stay pretty clean it seems.
That a good point... It's the only weay to really get back behind the cover on those older style machines though. I appreciate that you pointed that out though! Definitely something to be taken into consideration!
Were you talking about the part where I was talking about the torque screws? If so, those hold on that grille that is in the lid of the older version of the pressure cooker that comes with the separate pressure lid. If you have the smartlid version of the pressure cooker, that whole thing isn't there, so you don't have to worry about taking any screws out. Is that what you were referring to? Hope so!
I think you mean the part where he said it's a security torx screw, not the regular torx. It has a pin in the middle so it's hard to use a Philips screwdriver with it and you need the proper bit
Haha... yup... it's a pain in the butt... On the upside, you don't have to do it very often. For the most part you can just do a steam once in a while with the lemon water. Mine didn't really even need the cleaning, and it's had a ton of use so far... so there's that.. haha
Yeah... It can be, definitely... Fortunately thta level of cleaning does t have to happen too often... That's the first time I've done the lid that way, and I really didn't need to. I suppose it depends what kind of stuff you cook in there.
So hear me out bro bro.. I have no idea what I’m talking about.. why not jsut put some water in it then use the pressure cooker function for. A bit to get it all loosened up
I do that too. A lot of time I just steam clean it anyway, and it's all good. That was more for people that let stuff get out of control to the point where a steam clean won't do it, or get the hard stuff loose enough. That was thje only time I've cleaned it that way, and you can see that it really honestly didn't need it. I've seen some stuff online that is hard toi un-see, though. lol
@@JoesPhenomenal I can only Imagine.. then through the lack of maintenance they blame to company.. kinda like stainless skillet review on Amazon.. they stick.. it’s the company’s fault lol
Hey.. love the name. One of Cuba Gooding Jr's best movies, IMO. On that cleaning video, the lower half of the machine cleans the same way. On the old model, the pressure lid is a separate part and it easy to clean since it doesn't have anything sticking out of it. The part of the video showing the screw holes, the dark grating, and the needed tools are all for the previous version of the machine. The new ones combine the 2 lids, but that grating isn't there. The actual cleaning that showed in there is on the newer lid type. Hope that helps!

@amysnews6808 lol... Real-world problems.
Warranty voided nice work
THat could be trouble for sure..
@@cromero1r5 that works... Taking it apart is for weirdos like me mostly... Haha
Sounds like you might want to get an exchange on that. Betcha the fan motor went out.
@@JoesPhenomenal Thanks.
@@celineferdinand6944 you got it! If you just got it a couple of weeks ago, I wouldn't even bother calling Ninja about it... I'd just exchange it with the retailer, and let them deal with the manufacturer... Much easier for you, I think.
@@JoesPhenomenal Okay, thanks. good idea.
Sweet! Yeah.. You'd think they would seal that outer pot a little better so that doesn't happen.... They could put a filter or some sort down there.
These kitchen gadgets are supposed to free you from your kitchen. In reality, they imprison you in the kitchen cleaning them.
I meant that it would not pop off @JoeyPhenomenal

Lol.... I'll bet!
how to clean the bottom?
You mean the area inside down at the bottom where the lower heating element is?
So happy I have a live in cook, and cleaner. 😍
Lol... I bet! 😃
Let me see what I can figure out with that and I'll get back to you.
@@JoesPhenomenalThank you so much. Life saver!!
@patriciag6127 traveling right now but will see what I can figure out after the weekend. Yw!
@@JoesPhenomenalI'm so grateful no words can express that. I haven't used it since the incident as I was too scared to turn it on. Please take your time there is no hurry at all. Be safe with your travels!
Hey Joe! I just wanted to update you on the situation. A Ninja Customer Representative got in touch with me and they are going to replace the unit for me. Which has left me completely speechless. The whole incident was our fault but they're being so kind and replacing it. I don't even know what to say... That is just above and beyond customer service. It's one thing to buy a product but the aftercare a company shows is another. A big thank you to them as well as you for offering to help me a stranger that left a message on your TH-cam video. Thank you, Joe! May God bless you and your family for your kindness.
Amazing that you clean a Ninja Foodi that is already clean???
I always keep it that way... I let it get a little dirtier for the video, but the anal retentive clean freak in me couldn't let it go to far. lol
But the guarantee doesn’t allow to remove any screw.
That a good point... It's the only weay to really get back behind the cover on those older style machines though. I appreciate that you pointed that out though! Definitely something to be taken into consideration!
what version?? you slurred your words..... you said not regular torque verison but something else..what did you say?
I'll watch it really quick and see what I said and get back to you.
That is why older models was better 😎
Yep... The more features you get, the more complicated it gets too. Sometimes simple is beter!
Clean it every time you use it .
Well spoken.
Oh, boy, what a fun! 😂 Forget it.
Haha... yup... it's a pain in the butt... On the upside, you don't have to do it very often. For the most part you can just do a steam once in a while with the lemon water. Mine didn't really even need the cleaning, and it's had a ton of use so far... so there's that.. haha
@@JoesPhenomenal way too much for my laziness 😂
Lol.... Gotcha. 😁
Too much hassle to clean pass on that item
Yeah... It can be, definitely... Fortunately thta level of cleaning does t have to happen too often... That's the first time I've done the lid that way, and I really didn't need to. I suppose it depends what kind of stuff you cook in there.
How about coming up with a video about cauliflower rice with either Asian seasoning or Rice-A-Roni seasoning that would be interesting.
@@crusader1563 Sure. I can do something like that for ya. I'll put it on my schedule.
Not impossible but not easy or fun either.
Very true!
Yeah.. People don't realize you have to learn to cook diffently on that stuff. I never have too many issues..
psss,hh. the newer model is much more easy to clean, how about you talk about the previous model??
Hey.. love the name.
