Would love to have seen more “tips” for tip up fishing. How to tie up the leader and how to rig for different species. Maybe discuss types of areas to use tip ups and how to set them up correctly. Basically cover information for people new to tip up fishing.

HEY Larry: Being an "outdoorsman" we are "environmentalist" as well. With that in mind, being a TV host you have different view points from different viewers, any comment on the Back 40 Mine along the Menominee river where you have featured on your shows?

Nice video Larry! My question is. Once you find the bottom with the weight on the tip-up what's the best way to set the depth you want to fish? Guessing your going to have to compensate for the thickness of the ice once the tip-up is put down and the spool in the water. After all these years I'm still running the magnetic plastic tube tip-ups! Haven't tried any other brand! LOL

@@LarrySmithOutdoors Snow pack and how we cover the lake in traps makes it hard to use a low style trap.

Beaver dam style tipups are useless when its snowing or blowing snow on the lake and snowmobile and quads run them over constantly

Then maybe don't abandon your tip up and you won't have issues with ski-dos and quads running them over.

You pretend to be such an expert!
What a joke, you did two stupid things so far in the video.
    1) you commented about the extra piece of metal on the flag staff. You said you often take it off. Do you even know what it is for ?
It make the flag more wind proof. One side of the flag staff is supposed to go on one side of the reel shaft, while the other metal piece goes on the opposite side of the reel shaft. That way to wind can not blow the flag loose.
It adds no extra drag to the release.
    2) you showed how to put line on the reel using a cordless drill. The tip-up reel was turning to spool line while the line spool was laying flat on the work bench. The new line was coming off the end of the line spool, putting a twist in each coil. The line spool should be positioned so that it also spins (vertical is best), avoiding adding twists to the line. Have you ever tried to coil a stiff garden hose ? Think about it !
