    I own a 2017 Camaro 2SS, it was crazy for me because I was never interested in American muscle not even a little bit. I was more of an Audi RS5 type of guy until this new Camaro hit the scene. I test drove both the Mustang and the Camaro before I made my purchase and the Camaro was just in a different league than the Mustang. Ive driven all kinds of cars, M3 and M4, C63, S5 and even my boy Johns GTR so I know what a high end car should feel like and the Camaro is right there. The way that cars handles and sounds is amazing. If you closed you eyes and drove that car you would think it had an AMG badge on the back of it. I'm not one of those guys who is stuck on Camaros trust me I hated American cars all together but after this test drive I was loosing sleep because I couldn't believe how bad I wanted this car. So in the end I converted and ordered my 2017 Camaro 2SS and it impresses me more and more every time I drive the damn thing.

      Very nice. Congrats on your purchase! I own (still do) a 2012 mustang gt. I was about to pull the trigger on a 2016 camaro SS but ended up coming across a super great deal on a brand new 2014 Evo X gsr so I went with the Evo as well. As a mustang owner, I will say that the stang does not come close to the 2016 camaro SS. Chevy killed it with this one

      The new Camaro isn't a bad car for a daily driver. It might come with 455hp, but you won't get much more out of it without eclipsing the cost of a baseline Corvette. The Mustang can put down in excess of 700hp for the same price as a well optioned V6 Camaro.

      +Guy Gordon you've obviously not experienced how easy and cheap a LS engine is to mod

    • @GuytheCarGuy
      @GuytheCarGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, they're easy... but my shop doesn't do bolt on mods. We're exclusively an open wheel race car chassis/engine fab outfit... and we do forced inducted street cars in the off season. We don't do things like cam swaps, headers and so on. If we do, it's part of a complete car build where we dismantle the entire drive train and rebuild it for an exact specific purpose. The LS is much cheaper to mod for what I like to call "minimal gain modifications." Things such as cams, headers, CAIs, throttle bodies, exhaust parts and so on. Now, when you get into forced induction (which is the trend right now), the LS becomes astronomically more expensive due to it not having the required components preinstalled from the factory... so you have to go into the engine, fix that, THEN do the forced induction. That simple series of steps are almost as expensive as the forced induction itself. That's why I said you don't see this so much on Camaros because the Camaro is already more expensive than the Mustang... and to blow one, you really do need to harden the lower internals... unless you want to be stuck with the same tiny little blower that comes on the ZL-1. Keep in mind that the base trim ProCharger available to a Mustang driver is specced over 100hp over top of the ZL-1... and that's because it is pushing more boost while the Camaro can't handle any more without dropping some significant money.

    I keep hearing the thing about the air-conditioning freezing your hand if you have a manual. I have a SS... with 6k miles on it and my hand has never frozen or gotten cold. Its some crybaby complaints, along with the visibility complaints. Those of you who don't know how to adjust your side mirrors will have a blind spot. I don't have a blind spot because my mirrors are adjusted to the side lanes and not behind me, and I drive to D.C. everyday so you know I am in traffic making those lane changes. As an owner I have two complaints. One is the skip shift on the manuals which I have gotten used to and I don't have to pay attention to it anymore. And two, MAJOR complaint you cant get leather seats in a 1SS. You have to get heated leather seats and then it upgrades to a 2SS. Well shit that's 5k dollars more, I just want the leather wtf? And to put that in perspective I opted to get a sunroof, duel mode exhaust, mag ride, black rims/bowtie, plus I got the metallic silver ice color that I wanted. The 5k it would have cost me for the heated leather seats would have eaten up those options and made my monthly payments unreasonable. But I would have paid for unheated leather seats that would have been cheaper. Just saying, cause I got a mortgage and a lot of other bills I pay and not everyone can afford everything! So they talked about the sunroof and said take it or leave it... Well I like my windows down, but on the freeway the wind noise is too much so I close the windows and open the sunroof and vuala I have outside noise but not so much wind and I hear my stereo loud and clear. BTW I love to drive in track mode because it is LOUD and I want to hear it with my windows or roof open. Now they talk about rear window view... who cares you can see traffic behind you when driving and both 1SS and 2SS have a rear view camera so they should stop crying visibility issues. I am not as tall as these guys by the way. I told the dealer do not touch my freakin Camaro with a front license plate or a DAGGON dealership stamp. The DC police have not taken notice.Tail lights look bitchen if you ever are behind one at night on a freeway. Did somebody die? Why all black? Mines is Metallic silver with black trim and rims/bowtie.

    I never liked the new Camaro until they updated it in 2016. Nice specs and improved the looks. At first, I would have clearly gone with the Mustang due to price, but since the Camaro has low sales, I see the prices coming down a lot more. I might would go with the Camaro just to take the car with lower production numbers. Same idea with a Vette, just less of them on the road.

      The Camaro is more rare I agree with you. But since they moved it from a CTS to ATS platform (Cadillac platforms), it has gotten very small. That is part of the reason why it performs better. So in my humble opinion after test driving one, it is too small to be considered a muscle car. It seems like a high performance bmw 3 series now... but as P51 said in this review - you'll have to test one out I guess.

      Camaro is actually larger in a few regards. The Mustang sets 1" taller, both are the same length, the Camaro has a wider wheelbase, wider front track, slightly smaller rear track. I think it's design makes it feel smaller (especially the interior), when in fact it actually isn't. I do think the Mustang is vastly more ergonomic. Weights of both are almost dead even (depending on options). Add that fact that it has that nice, large OHV V8...I don't know how you couldn't consider it a muscle car in comparison to the Mustang. If anything..the Challenger is the ONLY muscle car and the Stang and Camaro are more sports car-like.

    • @GuytheCarGuy
      @GuytheCarGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I always liked the fact that you can get a GT Basic S550 with performance pack for less than the cost of a moderately equipped 2016 Camaro V-6. The GT Basic with PP is a GREAT build foundation for supercharging. You can literally drop a bolt on ProCharger onto it for under $6,200 and get a 700hp car in 5 hours without having to modify anything. Thus, you can literally get a completely dependable, daily drivable 700hp car for under $40,000 (GT Basic will run between 33-35k with the PP option).

      seeing as the Mustang and Camaro (used to be challenger too) are pony cars, they've always been geared towards road performance and not just straightline speed. the challenger is a true muscle car now because dodge is lazy as all get out. I think that once they discontinue the Viper they should bring in a true competitor to the stang and camaro. something that sits on it's own chassis, instead of sharing one with two fullsized sedans. I don't want them to change the Challenger now tho because it has it's image painted for it.

    I grew up a chevy guy, when the time came to trade in my G35 coupe, I wasn't feeling the 2014 Camaro ss... so I got a base model '14 Mustang GT. Loved it so much, 2 years later I ended up upgrading to a 2017 GT prem, performance pack. The only thing I wish the mustang had was the moon roof. Or bring back the glass roof. Only other car I might've gone with is a c7 vette, but honestly, at that price point I could procharge the S550 and be just as happy.

    The only real advantage the new Camaro SS CURRENTLY has is HP/TQ. I sat in one at a Chevy dealership and visibility is still an issue. Exterior/Interior looks are subjective, but I still think the Mustang is better looking in both departments. With a mid-cycle refresh coming in 2018 for the Mustang, I think Ford will address any shortcomings (performance, suspension, etc...). The Mustang is still currently beating the brakes off the Camaro in sales, even with the new Camaro being on sale. Hopefully some of the lessons learned from GT350 will filter down to the Mustang GT in 2018 along the with the new transmission (co-developed by Ford/GM). Would love to also see another GT500 or the return of the Mach 1 in S550 form.

      the Mustang has nothing on yhe Camaro. the camaro is faster quicker better handling and it's a more modern and nicer car in my opinion. Only thing the GT has Is its cheaper. I love both but don't be biased the camaro is a better car

    • @chrism.728
      @chrism.728 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Camaro is the better performer on the track (currently), but the Mustang is better suited as a daily driver to live with day to day, as far as visibility, suspension, and comfort. The Camaro's visibility is poor and suspension is too harsh, more suited for the track. Appearance is subjective, but I think the Mustang looks better too. I'm pretty sure Ford will answer the bell next year with the mid cycle refresh coming out as far as performance goes. A little bump in HP/TQ with some weight reduction wouldn't hurt.

    I like both cars; Mustang and Camaro. However comma I went with the Mustang GT primarily because of the history and community of the Mustang brand. The seats and suspension sold me as well since I have a bad back. The Camaro, for me, was way too tight and the seats were just not comfortable. They were nice but they felt like I was sitting in a hard backed chair. The suspension amplified anything they hit straight to my spine. It wasn't jarring... it was just too uncomfortable for me. The Mustang seats hug me. They love me when I sit in it. My pain goes to near zero. The ride is wonderful on the highway in the Mustang. So, for me it was community, history, suspension and wonderful, loving, seats that support my back. Will never get rid of my Stang

    I had both. The 67,82 85 92 Mustang Gt and the 69, 70, 81, 86, 2010 2SS RS Camaro, and the 2017 Fiftieth Anivery adition 2SS. Everyone keeps talking about the blind spot on the 5th and 6th gen Camaros. After a while you get use to it in a good way. You know it's there but your mind gets use to where you have look so it won't be an issue. I can take it through a road course that changes every month and not have a problem like when I first start. That's with wearing a helmet also. It becomes second nature. I'm not just jump in the car and forget it is there. Learn from it. It will make you a better driver. I think my 2006 GTO had worse blind spots tjan my 6th gen Camaro does.

    I was in between quite a few cars, the Camaro was included. I ended up with a 16 Mustang GT. For me it was so much more comfortable interior. I absolutely love the interior on the Mustang, hate the look on the Camaro.
    Another factor was sound. A V8 Mustangs is one of the best sounding vehicles you will see on the road. Camaros sound good as well, its just preference. I prefer Mustangs and WRX/STIs.
    The Mustang is just a overall sexier looking vehicle.
    Nothing against the Camaro at all. I've always been a import dude. But the 15 and up Mustangs are amazing cars I would recommend to anyone in the low 30k range.

    I'm a professional car builder and driver. For me, the S550 is a superior foundation. It comes from the factory with an 18psi boost rating (forged internals from the factory). The 2016 Camaro can only be boosted half as much on stock internals. To make a Camaro competitive for track use, it costs tens of thousands more than it takes for a Mustang. The S550 can be daily driven at near 1,000hp for a TOTAL build cost of just under $60,000. A stock Corvette costs more and you can't put a Camaro over 600hp without completely rebuilding the lower internals. That brings its build cost to close to $70,000 just for a 700hp Camaro (the ZL-1 will cost about that much when it's released).
    I don't usually care much for interior appointments as I remove it all anyway.

      @Nick-1992-SRB 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you man i have a S550 GT myself and its a much better Foundation car to build the engine than the stupid Camaro ss and not to compare the looks of style inside and outside of the two most people agree with that 100%.

      Believe me that camaro can handle more than 9 pounds of boost. There's 5.3 chevy truck engines making a 1000 hp on stock internals and heads for a good long while (although their cast iron blocks) and those are junk yard engines with 100,000 miles plus on them most of the time . Please tell me more about why it takes thousands of more dollars to make a camaro ready for track use....... a car like the zl1 that has magnetic ride suspension and massive brakes on and on really dude ? That gt 350 is going for way way more than msrp. In fact it goes for a bout 70 grand. I am pretty sure you need to change out the piston's on the 5.0 for over 600 hp and install a billet oil pump because they like to blow up. That dual over head coyote engine runs like a rapped ape no doubt and naturally aspirated the push rod runs short but it wins on size and can have more cubes for that given size with more low down torque usually but it even's up when you start talking boost. That 5.0l is massive. Do you really race road course or drag race ? Because 1000 hp is about useless anyways if your just gonna smoke the rears tires everywhere and lose time

    • @GuytheCarGuy
      @GuytheCarGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CalypsoNotch408 I've been building open wheel race cars since the late 1990s. If you like, go build a new 2SS or better Camaro out to 4 digit horsepower (safe hp). If you can do it and it still be a daily driver for under $70,000, send me a private message with the build particulars and I'll hire you to build more of them. But, I know that it isn't possible. Feel free to prove me wrong.

    • @GuytheCarGuy
      @GuytheCarGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      james dean The stock Coyote comes from the factory with fully forged internals and the same OPG as the 2014 GT500. You really don't need to change anything for boost levels up to 15psi. You can get 1,000hp off of that amount. Mine has an upgraded OPG because mine is spec'd to use an F-1R head unit that produces 25psi. That was my point in the comment... the new Chevy engines are not forged and they do not have reinforced piston sleeves. Some older engines did... but we're talking about the LS7 to newer LT1 engines. The Z06 and ZL1 cars are using very lightweight blowers (7-8lb). They make little more than half of the horsepower of a common ProCharged Mustang... and both of those will cost right at double the price of building a ProCharged Mustang.

      Agreed, but that performance comes at a cost. Which is why the Mustangs are consistently outselling the Camaro's already. The thing I like about the Mustang is that there are so many aftermarket options that you can do to make it what you want. If you just want to buy a car and not mod it, then the Camaro would be a good option.

But in 2011 Ford just put out a better product, and turned me to the Mustang. My 2013 Mustang GT has yet to lose to ANY 5th gen f-body, let alone one similarly modded. While I look forward to facing off against a 6th gen, I actually respect what GM did with the 6th gen Camaro compared to the crap 5th gen... Performance wise, I still think it's ugly like the 5th gen :)

    I like Both Mustang and Camaros but the major draw back for me on the new 2016 Camaros is the Direct Injection on all the engines from the 2.0L turbo to the 3.6L and 6.2L. The Carbon Build up will be a big issue on these cars because we all know oil vapor gets pulled through the intake system and without fuel to wash off the intake valves that will be a constant maintenance issue that will need to be addressed. Nice Camaro but I would still take a 5.0L port injected or even the 3.7L Mustang. Direct Injection was designed for better fuel economy and performance due to government restrictions but at the expense of the customer when he or she has to bring it in every 20-40k miles and pay 700-1000 dollars to have carbon build up removed. In my opinion they made the pushrod motor more inefficient in the long run.

    Hey Guys, yeah...thanks for not trashing the car, and just being honest about it, like so many other Mustang people would have done. (Camaro guys do it too.) We have to be grateful that we are alive at a time when we have a choice of some very nice, affordable muscle-sport-pony, or whatever you want to call them, cars. Honestly, I don't knock any of them. I'm a Camaro and Challenger guy and even though I've never owned a Mustang, let alone a Ford, in my life, all of the vehicles in this niche are beautiful and hey, without all of the competition, we all may be still looking at something like a 1983 Challenger. Funny thing is although I'm a Ford guy at heart (owned 4 mustangs including a '11 5.0) I own a SC 08 Corvette C6. I bought the car due to the performance potential, easy to work with and overall cheaper parts with the LS engines. My buddy has a '16 GT track pack and I love the looks and interior of the car. Performance wise, I'll take the camaro even though I've never been a fan of them except the late 60s and this 6 generation. The back end is very bland though. Now, I also own a 2016 F150 with the 5.0 and love it too. I love the coyote engines, but honestly in N/A vs N/A form the 6generation camaros will stomp on the s550s all day. Forced induction is a different story as the 32v dohc engine will with its airflow and rpms potential.

    I can't hate it, but there are a few things that just don't appear "thought through" by the designers. I do like the LED piping in the interior. As a lighting fan, that's a nice touch. The center touchscreen looks like it was just stuck there with very little thought. That's a negative I just can't get past. The AC vents in the middle and the controls/display above them, again seem out of place. Exterior looks pretty good and menacing, but how many reflectors does a car really need? This is not a Schwinn, it's an American muscle car. Overall, it's a cool car. Would I own one instead of my S550? Not a chance!

I rather drive the Camaro as a daily and the Mustang less, the Camaro ride is smoother to me and despite visibility more practical in terms of drive quality. The 2010 Mustang was more fun but loss traction easily. the 2016 has better handling but still not a better daily driving car than the Camaro but I have more fun in the Mustang as it feels more nimble and smoother at high speeds when i want to do a little spirited driving late nights

    Good Review...I know its not a Full review But you missed some points
    1- The Backseat are way to small than the Mustang
    2- The Wireless charger is useless unless you got an S6
    3- The A/C cycling is not that good specially for those who in the backseats
    4- The set-belt is so annoying when someone want to set in the back
    5- The trunk is small and is a shape that wont help you with most of the Traveling Bags
    I found out about all of this when I was about to buy a 2SS 2016 few months ago and I'm glad that I didn't, I believe that there is who share the same thing.

    You guys hit the nail on the head with that center computer. It looks like it was an afterthought and does not flow with the rest of the interior. Otherwise it looks very nice. I would drive one. How does it ride compared to the mustang though? I remember old camaro's being very stiff and would raddle itself to death. And it felt like I couldn't see well in the old camaro's because you sat so low in the car, which made it difficult to see. The ride and seating position is why I fell in love with mustangs. For the money though, I think i'd get a vette if I was to get a Chevy.

    I have mixed feelings on it, and the generation before. It's a car that looks good from some angles, but I still think the rear end is ugly. The interior, as well, is not appealing. I do like the leather seats, they looked good and the leather work on the inside of the doors. That display looks like it's some sort of aftermarket display that's hanging on the dash. Not well done, IMO. You can't argue with the horsepower... that's where Chevy gets it right. I did like the headlights, as well. And as you pointed out, it's nice that it has a sunroof. I still don't understand why the Mustang has no sunroof option. I would love one.
    I definitely think the S550 has more appeal than the Camaro, unless you are a die hard Chevy guy. I think inside and out, it is a sexier car. But the Camaro is not a bad car. I'm not knocking it just to hate on Chevy. They have had some cars I liked.

      "The McDonald's of sports cars" LOL! I think what Ford realizes is that they can put money in the right places and leave upgrades to the aftermarket retailers. I mean, the S550's don't even come with hood struts. But, I'm fine with doing my own upgrades. The 5.0 is a good place to start.

    I had an 02 Camaro SS with no front plate and got a ticket for it. I looked around and noticed 50% of the cars on the road have no front plate, especially cars like the Corvette. They said if I mount the front plate and show the court, the ticket will be dismissed. I used zip ties so I wouldn't have to drill into the front of my car. I took off work, went to court, and they said it has to be permanently mounted. I got ticked off, popped off a little and gave them $100 bill for the ticket. Took off the plate and left it off.

Also, it was way too techy to me. It's not very intuitive to me. As for the Mustang, it was very intuitive. Yet, I would take the Tremec from the Camaro & put it in the Mustang with 3.55 gears. You'd be shifting a lot and it's very notchy. Yet, I prefer the looks the Mustang over the Camaro (it kind of looks like they chopped Mad Max's Ford Falcon XB.) I do like the interior better in the Mustang, also. Yet, I'm aware of the Mustang getting beaten by the Camaro in performance. Z/28 vs. GT350, on track it would be Z/28. Yet, there is one car I would pick to have, and that will be the Mustang. Because I could live with the Mustang more than Camaro. Camaro could've taken it if it was more intuitive and visibility wasn't a problem, and that's where the Mustang gets my pick. Thank you.

      Yeah, I figure that it's something that you could get used to. The rear window is just a bit of a shock when you first sit in it if you're used to having a bigger one. But, I'm sure I could adjust to it.

      Hi Jeffrey, are you talking about the mustang or the Camaro? This is coming from a current Camaro owner (I've had mustangs and Camaros) but the Camaro ceased production in 2002 and then resumed in 2010. So the current body styling has been around since 2010. Also, the same thing could be said about the mustang since the 2005-2014 didn't change a whole lot. I've noticed he same thing though, they only make subtle changes but every company seems to be doing that.

      Only two badges carried over from the 5th gen.

    • @GuytheCarGuy
      @GuytheCarGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but they kept the same styling cues and general "look and feel." Both have abysmal visibility issues, both use different, but equally antiquated V-8 engine tech, and aside from figuratively shrinking it... the Camaro looks very similar to its previous gen. The S550 carries over the V-6 and Coyote powertrains from the previous gen... but the S550 now comes with fully forged lower internals and a more advanced fuel delivery system. We all know the S550 is a complete makeover in terms of look and feel.
      I'll get excited about Camaros again when they join the 21st century and start making engines that aren't old school, inefficient lightweight single cam engines.

    • @FRWD_FXLRST
      @FRWD_FXLRST 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, because fuel is more important than a better and more powerful engine.

      camaro gets better mpg and outperforms the mustangs in 2016. inefficient? no not at all. old school? its direct injected ,it goes into 4 cylinder mode on the hwy. have you compared the power band of a pushrod v8 to a ohc? you really have to wind a ohc out to feel the power. plus more moving parts.

      No hesitation at all. As mentioned in the video, it was a customers car so we couldn't put it through it's paces like we wanted to. However, it's pretty well documented that stock vs stock, the Camaro outperforms the Mustang. But, that's what aftermarket parts are for. :-)

    I have had a 2015 GT California Special.... Great look and feel but i heavily dislike the new Mustangs which to me have a more reserved feminine look to them.. They are calling them a more European look but i can't get with it, the Camaro SS has the advantage to me for sure.

      I actually didn't really like the 2015 Mustang either when I first saw it. But, it grew on me. It was redesigned to appeal to a global consumer base since the Mustang went world wide. But, the fast back design is a throwback that I actually like. But, everyone has their preference, so I can respect yours.

      I'm not a ford guy or smth, but the mustang, like it or not, looks like a real car that was built with real iron... Camaro looks like a plastic toy. Looks cartoonish. It is faster than the stang, it sounds better, but there is smth in its design that throws u off from it.

      I love the dash on the S550. the only draw back is its no option to have a digital speedometer. Overall the looks and lighting is great.
      The Camaro looks more like a super car in the early 2000s trying to be futuristic then added a standard dash from Grand Prix. Interior just looks kind of odd for a 40k in 2016.
