I was there! Three of my friends and I drove from Houston to Dallas to see George on New Years Eve. Our hair was big and our jeans were starched and way too tight…what a big time we had! My friend threw her white teddy bear onto the stage and barely missed George. It sat on the stage for the rest of the concert. You can see it in the video!
It’s amazing to see how people could climb on the stage and hug him at the end - times were different back then for sure.
And it was always exciting to think that you just might catch his hat when he threw it out into the audience.
I’m going to see George Strait at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Sunday night - have been watching old videos and realize that I’ve probably seen him about 20+ times. It has been worth every dollar!
We're seeing him on Saturday. I've only seen him about 6x, but I did get to shake his hand once. 🤩
Guarantee that hat was mangled by the time someone finally got a good hold on it.

My daughter and her friends from SWTS went to see his concert in the Cheathem Street Warehouse in San Marcos, TX @ 1981 and she said "wow he is going to be a big star!".

I attended a George Strait concert every year, for 10 yrs in a row....from Fresno, to San Jose, to the huge shows he did at the sorry-ass Oakland Raiders stadium....King George, there'll never be another like him....

I actually still have the VHS tape of this concert, I bought it back in 1989. I introduced my first wife to George and his greatness while watching it on one of our early dates back in 1990 when I was living in San Diego. Holy Crow !!! , where in the heck does time go ? The last 30+ years went by in a flash.....
I love George’s old stuff, back when he was young and exciting and giving all he had into his showmanship. I loved all his little funny jesters, and that Smile never gets old. Will love this type of music forever. The Ace in the Hole Band is the best band I have ever heard. God help us keep the old style of country music this new style is killing the spirit.

All of these are great, but the Texas Playboys can top them all. Behind them, I would have to agree with the Ace In the Hole band.
Johnny Cash’s band The Tennessee Three and Merle Haggard’s the strangers was one of the best backing bands of the 1960’s

There's not a single cassette, CD and above all single of George's I don't have! I been a collector of his from the start right down to magazines and interviews I recorded over the years and I been to so many of his concerts. I recorded his Austin City Limits whenever he was on even Hee Haw I even wear the same cowboy hat he does. Hey can't help it he's the "King"!!

I saw George Strait live in St.Louis before The Cowboy Rides Away Tour and I had a great time and I did a tribute to George Strait and I did The Cowboy Rides Away and I felt the same way when I saw George Strait in St.Louis in 2012, when he closed the old astrodome in Houston Texas, and when he ended his final tour in Dallas Texas at AT&T Stadium and it was also the name of the tour also
