Boomer Shooters are the ultimate video game genre. No wasted effort on boring bullshit like stories, cut scenes, cinematics. I don’t want my limited time of gaming to be whittled down, stolen and wasted by load screens, text bubbles, and unskippable video.
I still prefer the old skool Doom games to Doom 2016 and Eternal... Just more atmospheric, even with "nostalgia goggles" disabled And the Switch ports, along with Quake, are some the best bang 4 your buck on the system
Really? Tbh it's the one I go back to the LEAST. I feel like rhe environment is too repetitive and it really bogs me down. I am the type of dude who rarely likes games that have only 1 or 2 settings. Unless, the setting itself has a lot of variety within. 3 doesn't AT ALL lol
I beg to differ, had quite a few issues with the Switch version, I feel most of these run better and play better than Forgive me Father, it's not a bad game but certainly not top of the list IMO
I do appreciate unranked lists; it lets the descriptions for each game take precedence over a somewhat arbitrary number. That said, for someone not too familiar with this genre and many of these games, would you be able to narrow down the list to just a few of the games you would most recommend in terms of quality (not necessarily historical impact)? Always appreciate the content here. Thanks!
So I haven't played all of these and most of my experience with them is from the originals, but Ion Fury is a solid one if you're looking for a more modern spin on a classic and Quake is a great package if you're wanting a fast paced shooter. For something different try Strife or Apocryph.
Nice change without straying to far… Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle went on sale finally. So the whole family will be hunting titans all next week during my son’s spring break. I’m still working on your adoption papers but you’re still considered family ‘round here, Luke and you are always welcome.
Probably gonna look into the ones with 4p couch co op. This was also a dope list. When you said boomerang x I was think cloud base prime if it were a bit different it could probably make the honorable mentions but thinking now something like Void bastards definitely felt more like this genre I geuss that's going to show how many games were influenced.
There's quite a few on this list which have had 4p implemented. There are actually quite a few with a similar visual style to Void bastards. It kind of reminds me of that Borderlands Cell shaded aesthetic.
just out of curiosity, these are 18 of the best as your title says. if you didn't play all of them how are you able to compare and place them on a list?
I trauled through the e-shop to identify as many retro shooters as I could and I may have missed a couple but this was just about everything I could find, so being as this list contains ever retro shooter on the store I'd say calling them the best is quite accurate hehe 😊
@@jyesucevitz Nah, I know that, sorry If I came of standoffish, I was just trying to explain that its not a ranked list and while I haven't played them all so can't say for sure they are the "Best" in terms of quality, by the fact of them being almost every retro fps the switch has to offer, they are inherently the best lol
Have not played it for a while but Post void seems like a great option for this list in my opinion, it has some rogue aspects and it's fucking eye candy, avoid it if you're Epeleptic though because one second of the game and you're ass is dead.
Started to watch the video becouse of exophobia. Didn’t know its existing. Wanted to buy it, and gues what? It’s still not existing)) But anyway thanks for video
It looks to be like a top down twin-stick shooter, more like diablo with guns, I think the thumbnail just makes you think its a doom clone. I've never played it though.
Yea I've heard good things about it John, I saw the original Chex Quest but haven't played the new one, I hear its mediocre though and forgot about it for this list lol
It is really awesome how many boomer shooters are on switch Still baffles me that there are no call of duty or GTA V on switch tho. GTA V might be the easiest money they ever make. It'll run the game great compared to the original version of V, and it's not like earlier in switchs life span when devs were afraid it might fail like Wii U At this point switch is already a massive success, even bigger than ps3 or Xbox 360 and any games will hopefully be playable on super switch or whatever is coming soon At least we got the 3 best FPS of all time though, DOOM Eternal (the GOAT), Crysis 1, and Bioshock Infinite (or 1, if that's your preference).
Yea I think performance is the biggest issue on Switch, GTA V might be just too much of an ordeal to optimise but we may see it with the next generation of Switch, if its more powerful that is.
@@SwitchStars it wouldn't be. GTA v worked on ps3, it can work on switch. Most games run better on switch than ps3 and with higher res. Even open world games
It's got nothing to do with the power of the system it's all down to how well they optimise it and the switch has a very poor track record for ports. With GTA 6 in development I doubt Rockstar would dedicate the time and effort needed to optimise it.
@@SwitchStars switch has a much bigger track record of great ports and at least acceptable ports. The ark survival evolved ports are few and far between. Plus Rockstar is a massive studio and there are others they can hire to do the conversion properly
So... I bought but I hate the Switch with it's unreliable controllers. I watch all your crossover vids for games on my Series X/Ps4(Slipstream). I honestly haven't pulled my janky Switch outta my closet in almost 2 years. Bruv, from an American fan, expand your reviews.
Yea, I use the Pro controller but even that's not great, luckily most retro fps only require the use of a single analogue. What do you mean expand my reviews? To cover games on other platforms?
Yea it's a pain and only worthwhile if you play docked a lot. As for steam or Xbox, not sure if you're aware but I run Xbox Corner alongside Alex from SwitchCorner. I have done a few reviews on that channel amongst other content.
Nice, I've never bothered, the only ones that irritate me are the 20 second Google ones 😂 I still get some revenue from premium viewers watching though I believe so it's all good. Thanks for the support 😁

Timesplitters 2 is one of my favourites. 1 and future perfect are also fun as hell
I still prefer the old skool Doom games to Doom 2016 and Eternal...
Just more atmospheric, even with "nostalgia goggles" disabled

Yea, OG Doom was terrifying at the time, with those pig noises and clostrophobic corridors, playing it again I was getting PTSD 😂
Doom 64! 👹
Switch is a great console to play a great variety of retro games!!! And you can play everywhere 😎
Great list! Love it! Lots of games I hadn't heard of. Some gems there to explore. Thanks for that.
Cheers Mralekito, hope you find something you can enjoy.
Nice Video. I love Dusk. Its a great Game
I would do unspeakable things for Nightmare Reaper on Switch. Perfect 10 minute bite roguelike.
Not heard of that one, but if its not too graphically demanding it may make it on to the Switch. Developers seem to struggle with optimising ports.
I would do that for postal 2 because I found quite goofy and I like the edgy humor
IT'S FINALLY ON SWITCH!
Played it in a live stream the other night and really enjoyed it.
@@SwitchStars It's a great game. Gonna buy it today 👍
Doom 3 is one I always go back too. Is more modern than 1 and 2 but still old school.
I remember playing it on PC when the demo came out, it was amazing and I messed with the config to explore other places in it lol

Great video man. I've always thought about picking up Apocryph. Looks like a lot of fun!
Thanks Tyler. It remind me of like the old might and magic games mixed with Hexen, a real interesting mixture between old and new with it.
This is exactly what I was looking for, very informative and professional video thank you
Glad you found it useful Dave, you're welcome 😊
I didn't realize Switch had so much culture!
Yea plenty of great 32 bits on here now, shame about all the other shite lol
This was a nice surprise! Great list!
Been considering starting doing them for a while and was inspired the other day to create this one 😄
Forgive me father outsmokes all these
I beg to differ, had quite a few issues with the Switch version, I feel most of these run better and play better than Forgive me Father, it's not a bad game but certainly not top of the list IMO
Great list! You did a great job with the descriptions, too. I put Exophobia on my watch list
Thanks matey, I tried to keep them concise but informative 😁

Np, hope you enjoy 👍
Quake with bots, nothing else required. Awesome vid, loved it. Cheers.
I played so much quake and unreal 3 with bots 😂 glad you enjoyed it Mike.
Used to use reaper bots and omicron bots !
This is a fun idea for more content!
Yea. I've been wanting to give these a go for a while, hopefully can bring some interesting ones in future. 😊
Impressive list you out together! Thank you
You're welcome Kenerd, hope you saw something you like the look of.
Sure did: Exopobia, Ziggurat 1 & 2, and immortal redeck.
Immortal redneck looks a lot of fun, I'll hopefully cover exophobia on the channel when it releases.
@@SwitchStars excited to see of it goes over well
Yea it looks cool, can't think what the visual style reminds me of though
Great selection, thanks
Me and my brother played quake for hours just killing each other 😂 it was great
Such a good video as always.
Thanks Cory 😊
i really hope sulfur comes soon that game gonna be something special
couple throw back games from when I was a we lad!
Yea, the main ones I played were Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, never got to play Hexen back then though.

As long as it fits on the grill- guests pick!
Sounds awesome, I'll have a think! 🤔
13:07 no it's 3d mega Man dude
good video dude! check out ziggurat 2, it’s fantastic. has a very different structure than the first one, better sense of progression etc.
Thanks Jon. Yea I read some stuff about it, looks like it has a lot more flexibility with progression in it, will have to give it a go when I can.
If boomer shooter make me play doom quake Duke, arena shooter remind me painkiller

Me neither tbh, I didn't realise they had added coop to them
Do you have a list of those 4 local coop FPS? PLEASE?
Great video
Thanks matey 😊
Awesome job, thanks!!!
thanks Gianni, you're welcome!

No Word on serious Sam?! :O
I love Serious Sam and probably should have included it, I just felt it was a little too modern in terms of its visuals and gameplay.

I almost bought BDSM Big Drunk Sailor Men or something rather but I thought I ask you, sir, what you thought of the game first.

It looks to be like a top down twin-stick shooter, more like diablo with guns, I think the thumbnail just makes you think its a doom clone. I've never played it though.

I've got the first six games on your list, and I highly recommend them all. They're typically on sale and really cheap too.
Get ready to add Prodeus to this. That game is the best boomer shooter I've played (DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal aren't boomer shooters IMO)
Prodeus looks pretty good, I've requested a key for it but not sure I'll get it right now. If I do I'll probably do a livestream or something.
@@SwitchStars If you have game pass you can play it there as well
