I didn’t even play these types of shooters as a kid and I still love them. Even without the nostalgia element there’s something satisfying about retro gunplay.

Core Decay looks both great intriguing. Definitely waiting for that one. Blood West and Dread Templar - have both been a blast since day 1. Even though Dread Templar still has some huge design holes, despite officially leaving the early access stage. Blood West - a masterpiece.

@@ZlimBratSki When Dread Templar was in early access, - a lot of levels looked unfinished, lacking a proper polish. Especially the second episode, and the first half of the third one. Understandable for an EA title. But now, when Dread Templar is officially released and is no longer in early access - the developers have only addressed the bland design of the first episode, improving it to an acceptable degree. While the second episode (and the 1st half of the 3rd) - are STILL looking unfinished to the point of extreme carelessness and negligence. Which is a shame, cause the 3rd episode has some truly fantastic maps, especially E3M3 - "World's Edge" - only to be hopelessly tarnished by abysmal texturing (if i can even call it that) and zero detail. I do hope this gets addressed at some point and all levels get a proper deserving design treatment, as Dread Templar has easily the BEST FPS gameplay in the last two decades (imho). If you have any contact with the dev team, then i'd also mention (at least) two persistent bugs that existed since the beginning and still exist even today: weapon modes (katanas, SSG, pistols) - keep resetting either on death or on every new level for no reason, breaking the game flow. Second, player shots don't noclip through corpses, which noticeably hampers the use of rockets and also clutters the area with unnecessary material that blocks player shots, impeding gameplay.

It's like as if this aspect and the texturing/detailing - were made by two completely different people with drastically different artistic skill level and even more different work ethic, lol. I actually consider recreating E3M3 within my own Hexen remake. That level deserves some love.
These all look awesome... though it has to be said, Phantom Fury is the one I'm most excited about. Completed Ion Maiden... sorry, Ion Fury. Loved it, but Phantom's deliberate references to the 2001 Duke Forever build makes me think maybe, at long last, the shooter genre will get a chance to progress further down the path it was on before Halo and CoD and the console shooter era took over.
Phantom fury is high up on my list aswell, but of these ones im mostly excited for Brutal fate :) Would be sick to see the rise of these type of shooters again, although in my opinion its slowly happening right now :)

pretty sick how boltgun and tokyo underground killer and a lot of games now look like the fmv e3 trailer of a game back then, where the actual gameplay would be a downgrade, but now the game really is like that
Wrath AoR sadly feels like kinda abandoned, also too barebone. I'm more interested in expansions/DLCs ironically - for Amid Evil (BL) and Ion Maiden (Aftershock). The latter received Build Engine Randomizer project and it's a blast for a game with almost no mods...
Wrath: AoR's combat design principles - unfortunately, are simply abhorrent. It's like as if its creators learned absolutely nothing from the success of games like Quake and Quake 2. Learned nothing from any great shooter than managed to surpass time. Learned nothing at all... However, i got to hand it to them, the game has a really cool machinegun. Doubtlessly the best i've ever seen. And, whoever is in charge of texture design there - most certainly understands what to do and how to do it right. I honestly wish the best of luck to that fellow, most of all - to dump that loser team as soon as possible and join (or spearhead) a project deserving of the talent.
HROT is a competently crafted project. Very thorough and with skill. It's a time-travel straight to the classic age perfected. However, this list has far stronger competitors than that. As for Dusk, i know a lot of people praise it, but i just can't buy into the alleged appeal. Tetris blocks robbed a gun store and went to war...? I'll go with the traditional pixel art instead ;-)
Most appealing thing for me about Brutal Fate is the over-the-top gore system. Its my only standard for games now. I don't care if the story is average, I just want to receive a bloody facia- I mean gore is just cool
You will be surprised to know that I am putting as much effort on the story and worldbuilding of Brutal Fate as the gore. The game will have strong political and philosophical themes, and multiple endings are planned depending on the player's choices, and not talking about just a different ending cutscene, but an entire different final episode depending on what path you want to take. You can also just ignore the plot if you want, kill everything and everyone, and get the bad ending. I'm aware that Carmack's old saying of "Plot in a game is as important as in a porn movie" aged badly, there are now too many other games following this pattern (that did not perform well neither at sales or critics) and that Brutal Fate wouldn't stand among the crowd if it's just another mindless Doom clone.

I havent done a lot of digging in to the details of brutal fate just yet (due to reading it's been paused in your discord), so my basic info made me think as in many other shooters, the story is there to give a purpose nothing more nothing less. But I clearly see that there is much to cover here and I like it! 🤟 But there is still no denying that video game gore is 👌😁

@Ninja Boy there is no exact definition for a boomer shooter. A boomer is something old. And yeah shooter. So system shock fits the category even if it was unique for its time.
@@ZlimBratSki Not sure, but it certainly feels like a fit. It's also something of a spin-off from a game called "Hypnospace Outlaw" that has a similar presentation in visuals and humor, but is more a point and click game.

pretty sick how boltgun and tokyo underground killer and a lot of games now look like the fmv e3 trailer of a game back then, where the actual gameplay would be a downgrade, but now the game really is like that

Wrath AoR sadly feels like kinda abandoned, also too barebone.
I'm more interested in expansions/DLCs ironically - for Amid Evil (BL) and Ion Maiden (Aftershock). The latter received Build Engine Randomizer project and it's a blast for a game with almost no mods...
The expansion for Amid Evil looks absolute fire! :)
Wrath: AoR's combat design principles - unfortunately, are simply abhorrent.
It's like as if its creators learned absolutely nothing from the success of games
like Quake and Quake 2. Learned nothing from any great shooter than managed
to surpass time. Learned nothing at all...
However, i got to hand it to them, the game has a really cool machinegun. Doubtlessly
the best i've ever seen. And, whoever is in charge of texture design there - most certainly
understands what to do and how to do it right. I honestly wish the best of luck to that
fellow, most of all - to dump that loser team as soon as possible and join (or spearhead)
a project deserving of the talent.
If I had to pick a fave from all of these, having never played any of them, I'd have to go with Dusk, HROT, and Hyperviolent (in that order).
Thats some neat picks for sure! 👌😊 Dusk is considered as the best retro shooter by many!

HROT is a competently crafted project. Very thorough and with skill.
It's a time-travel straight to the classic age perfected. However, this list
has far stronger competitors than that.
As for Dusk, i know a lot of people praise it, but i just can't buy into the
alleged appeal. Tetris blocks robbed a gun store and went to war...?
I'll go with the traditional pixel art instead ;-)
They all look fantastic, but I think that I am most looking forward to Sin: Reloaded.

Most appealing thing for me about Brutal Fate is the over-the-top gore system. Its my only standard for games now. I don't care if the story is average, I just want to receive a bloody facia- I mean gore is just cool

You will be surprised to know that I am putting as much effort on the story and worldbuilding of Brutal Fate as the gore. The game will have strong political and philosophical themes, and multiple endings are planned depending on the player's choices, and not talking about just a different ending cutscene, but an entire different final episode depending on what path you want to take. You can also just ignore the plot if you want, kill everything and everyone, and get the bad ending.
I'm aware that Carmack's old saying of "Plot in a game is as important as in a porn movie" aged badly, there are now too many other games following this pattern (that did not perform well neither at sales or critics) and that Brutal Fate wouldn't stand among the crowd if it's just another mindless Doom clone.

I havent done a lot of digging in to the details of brutal fate just yet (due to reading it's been paused in your discord), so my basic info made me think as in many other shooters, the story is there to give a purpose nothing more nothing less. But I clearly see that there is much to cover here and I like it! 🤟
But there is still no denying that video game gore is 👌😁

@Ninja Boy there is no exact definition for a boomer shooter. A boomer is something old. And yeah shooter. So system shock fits the category even if it was unique for its time.

@@ZlimBratSki Not sure, but it certainly feels like a fit. It's also something of a spin-off from a game called "Hypnospace Outlaw" that has a similar presentation in visuals and humor, but is more a point and click game.

Great list, there were a couple in there that I hadn't even heard of. You did miss rise of the Triad Ludacris edition also coming this year. It's looking really good for Boomer shooters though.
