Incredible episode. Pedro’s performance as Joel just keeps getting better and better.
I think after witnessing what Henry did Joel realizes how much he's barely hanging on to the armor he has been wearing ever since Sarah; and now that he's in a place where has potentially allowed himself to become invested in Ellie he understands if he loses her he'll have nothing left in his spirit to prevent him from sharing the same level of hopelessness as Henry did.
Every time … Bella’s reaction as Ellie to Henry… it’s just so bone chillingly real because it’s not exaggerated.
Joel had to pull out the broken bat, if it was still in while on the horse it would rip up his insides

Usually when you get stabbed or impaled with something, you’re right, you wanna leave it in. But that’s in a situation where someone can call an ambulance, and you’re able to remain still. Since Joel was in a situation where he couldn’t stay still, you wanna pull it out, or it’ll do more internal damage. Plus it’s a splintered baseball bat, you don’t wanna leave it in there.
100% true you can do more damage than good they leave that baseball bat in if he could stay still and they had a good place to hide if they were still in the building running hide before he passes out from blood loss

I'm pretty sure in the case of if you're about to ride a horse you shouldn't keep something like that stuck inside of you while your body is moving so much on a horse. would cause even more damage I think.

It was definitely not only you, I cried like 4 times during the episode! Also, the country music they play during Joel and Ellie's horse ride is called The Path (A New Beginning) and it's the song they play at the end of the game, so yeah, I was a mess during that part and it was only them bonding haha
They filmed this show around here so it's funny to me recognizing bits of town apocalypseified. For instance, I know both of the schools they combined into one, SAIT at first when they're riding in and then it switches to Mount Royal when they park the horse and go inside. I went to school there once upon a time.

Yes. You can see the northern lights in America. Know what’s part of America? Alaska. Greetings from Fairbanks, Alaska. We see them nearly every clear night in winter. Which this far north is about 7 months long.
If he didn't take the wooden spike out it would do more damage. The jagged edges will tear into his muscles and innards and definitely will cause infection. And also it must've hurt a lot if you left it there.
I see what you’re saying, but taking out the wooden spike right then and there introduced the more immediate danger of uncontrolled blood loss. The second that the wooden spike went in, it introduced germs that could cause infection. Taking out the stake can’t reverse that. The better thing to do would be to keep it in until they get to a safe place for them to remove it and attempt to stop the bleeding.
@@andrewlevin7586 I, for one, have never been stabbed in the gut with a jagged wooden spike, so this is all speculative for me. There are no good options but if it was me, I wouldn't want to run around or ride a horse with a spike in my gut.

It was a very emotional episode
I wouldn't consider episode 3 a happy episode, but it did have happy moments. We got a lifelong romance story, we got to see Tess again, Joel got a truck, Ellie learned what seatbelts are. Bill got surprised with strawberries.
We introduced two nice new people, and they lived.
From my experience, sheep are not quiet. But you get used to them. They also don't do what they're told.
My instinct on the dog is that he actually was reacting to the tension and stress coming off of Ellie, not the exposure to the fungus.
Tommy has been there a few months. He was still making contact with Joel a few weeks before we joined Joel and Tess, he stopped because the rules of this community required it. He hasn't been "safe for so long"
Pedro Pascal is def the best actor to portray Joel, Hugh Jackman might have been a great chocie but Pedro has def embraced the role of Joel!
Knowing what happens later, I wish joel and ellie would have just taken tommy up on the offer of a house and quiet living.
Incorrect, Joel knew instantly that they were in survival mode. He wouldn't have been able to move properly with it in given it's position in the lower abdominal, much less having to ride or even mount a horse. At that point leaving it in causes far more damage.
100% true if they would have been then the building where they could have hid somewhere he could have hide somewhere before he bled out and passed out like you did on the horse

However I'm not watching season 2 if HBO stays completely true to the game sequel for multiple reasons. They will loose atleast half the viewers. The majority watching haven't played the game.

Perfect episode, I'm loving the character development so much. Maria's logic still is something else when she's trying to turn Ellie against Joel. She judges him for killing people when she herself admided that they've killed people who have passed through. And it's not like Maria greeted Joel and Ellie with a hug, she pointed them with a riffle with the others

The native couple reminds me, you should watch the series "Reservation Dogs" (I don't mean the movie Reservoir Dogs). If you want more of that kind of humor, it is a great series. Taika is Executive Producer and writes for it some, but it is very heavily a Native American run, crewed, cast production.
You room has a bit of a echo or reverb when you talk FYI.
I have to wonder if they will fill in the time jump between the 1st game and the 2nd. That would give them space to show relationships forming, and more time with certain characters without having to change existing story.
