Paddy has gone up to put a wee bit of pep into the music in heaven. If you hear the sound of feet tapping, or even stamping a wee bit to great rhythm up in the sky, that's Paddy getting a rare old shindig rolling. RIP maestro. You were great.
My family are from Carlow and I grew up in London my dad had a drink and played armoured cars and tanks and guns my mam played the Chieftains- my mam understood don’t let them take away your roots - trouble comes and go but Ireland will be Ireland- the Invaders will go home in shame 🇮🇪
Very wells said and true, the day that Ireland finally gains her full independence from her nearest and dearest neighbor after the world's longest war of over 800 years of repeated brutal invasions, theft, and savage attacks
Derek Bell, Martin Fay, Lord rest them! Just gorgeous music, Brought down to us by soulful people. And special gracias to the genius who made them al, Sean O' Riada.
@@pgm3 You're right, Sean Potts and his son now, both legendary tin Whistle players, and Sean once a vital part of The Chieftains, many thanks for reminding me!
I love the Chieftains. Their music is really great. Though they seldom sing, tieir performance make me always me happiest. However there are only a few members alive, Matt Moloy and Kevin Coneff? Hope they live long...
Matt Molloy is back playing with the Bothy Band in this year 2024, with original members Donal Lunny, Triona Ni Dhomnaill, Paddy Keenan, Kevin Burke, and Paddy Glackin! Give it a listen; they sound absolutely as great as ever!
This is the very great The Chieftans who brought Irish music to the people of our world and who am I to disagree with the fact that they were the greatest's. Many ago years ago I was talking to a Greek man about music, I told him about the great Thn Lizzy, Horslips, Rory Gallager, The Doors, Bob Dylan, CCR and others then he asked me what I thought of The Chieftains, I began to give his a history lesson of the Chieftains of Ireland also my distant cousins The Tuatha Dé Danann and about The Land Of The Ever Young from way back in time, after listing to me this man said I did not that the Chieftains were so old, I have only got their most recent records, later I realised that he was talking about a band that I had never heard of before called The Chieftains. I also learned a great lesson on that day and loved their music ever time that time
While visiting Phoenix/Scottsdale I enjoyed a tour around the Musical Instrument Museum and came across the Irish exhibition which featured the Chieftains. Seeing photos of the group reminded me of my early school days attending Donore Avenue with Kevin Conneff as a class mate. I enjoy everything the Chieftains represent.
I m a big fan of chieftains .. got ALL their recordings … on lps.. and cds … though it is amazing , though, not one word of Irish spoken or sang on this show … 🤔…. Not a word
A true Irish music legend R.I.P. Paddy. Thank you. You left us with Irish music history that will never die.
Paddy Moloney, Ambassador of trad Irish music and culture to the World. Rest in Peace, Paddy. 😢
Traditional Irish music and a large bottle of stout heaven on earth

Great stuff. Nothing like it.😀👍
Tis surely only a very advanced old culture that can produce this.
I was listening: Galicia-Santiago... Eire.

I thought I clicked on a different band called the Chieftains in the beginning, glad I stay tuned, lol. Happy St Patrick's Day 2017!
Oh, man! A guy who plays the fiddle AND dances... Ole!!!!!!!

I used to go see the chieftains when they still worked at the Post office

Pronounced ‘bow-rawn’...some use the bow, as in bow and arrow - others use the bow from take a bow. I’m in the latter camp
It's the bodhran.Paticular to Ireland.
