I'm watching this video in October 2021 in the middle of Covid. I remember IIT back in 1987 It's still riveting viewing. Paddy Moloney has died recently. God rest him!! His music with the Dubliners will never die. This is what I would want in Heaven!!
Paddy Moloney and John Sheehan from the Dubliners know each other well as far as I know they were in the same class at school and had the same teachers ..!! And often played together @@Rungrandad
So wonderful to have this. Paddy Moloney, Derek Bell, Martin Fay, Gay Byrne are no longer with us: all wonderfully talented people who added so much to our Irish culture and heritage. ☘️💚🎶
I remember an afternoon in Rathgar Paddy's friends (French) broke down outside the house. All Ireland Hurling weekend. Garech arrived, and Purnah in a Rolls Royce. They played in the front room as a thank you.wonderful days
SUCH OUTSTANDINGLY BRILLIANT ENTERTAINMENT! PROVIDED BY THE ALWAYS GREAT CHIEFTAINS --- AND ALL THE BRILLIANT GUESTS WHO PERFORMED ON R.T.E'S TRIBUTE TO THE CHIEFTAINS
Delighted to find this video in 2021 during a time in our world when joy and merriment and the lust and passion for playing good fun, tapping one's toes, and whistling along are in so great a need. Awesome guests, amazing Chieftans!
i never heard of this guy until "the late show with steven colbert" put up a memoriam video on him. it's not what i would normally listen to but darn, this is good stuff. i'm sorry to the fans, friends and family for their loss. ... i'm grateful for the gift of the music he left behind 🙏
great musicians in the chieftains...some fabulous arrangements....samhradh samhradh was beautiful with the arrival of spring, summer, autumn then dying away as winter approaches...can hear the birds singing.....
I saw the Chieftains on their "Tears of stone" tour in 2000. Every one of them signed my CD inside booklet after the concert ---Derek refused, so I just wanted to have a chat with him but he just walked away. :/
@@Vingul Yes,I thought he was too but unfortunately not jovial in person. :( All the rest of the chieftains were happy to sign the CD and have a photo with a crap 1990's camera (before the days of selfies and iPhones bullsh**) He didn't get on the coach with the others- but they were lovely! xx
Look what can be achieved when protestant and Catholic come together . Fantastic music stories and craic . Derek Bell is a legend some character sadly missed along with Gary Moore RIP
Planxty motzart shows how well Irish traditional music mixes with classical music and Gary Moore's over the hills and far away shows trad mixes well with heavy metal too.
Gary Moore is fantastic . As is the song over the hills and far away. The chieftains also appeared on a song With ultravox called all fall down. Another class song. Video is on TH-cam. It's worth looking up
After 40 years I made this video about one of the countries that I Love the Most… Ireland. My daughter just visited the Green Emerald last week and that was my driver to make this video!!! If I have to mention two events that marked my life while in Ireland … Taking part in Saint Patrick’s Parade was one of them and secondly to be invited to the Late Late Show magically conducted by the best TV presenter I ever met! Gay Byrne!!! With my most sincere and warm feelings for my friends in Ireland! May this New Year bring Health and Happiness to All Irish people!! Those Friday nights watching aul Gaybo doing his thing were fantastic. Especially these anniversary episodes: Chieftains, Dubliners and even U2. Look at the pathetic dross that Turridy has made out of the current late late: hollywood celebrity tv interviews, finishing off with the usual weekly hard luck story. All for the salary of 500k

May I ask what year this was recorded? And I hope Paddy was half an hour in heaven before the divil knew he was dead.😢 What a truly brilliant musician and band.

RIP Paddy Moloney .. great music.. great memories.. also love the album The Long Black Veil
Evoking music of the traveling minstrels and troubadours of yore. Beautiful and nostalgic. Very grateful for this music and dance tradition.
Musicians to break your heart and rouse the spirits. Thankyou Chieftains and here's to many more years.
