@@peachbun I hope this kind of tragedy won’t ever happen to your family because I’m sure you wouldn’t be saying the same thing if those two victims were your husband, children, or parents.
Imagine claiming “medical emergency” absolves one of all responsibility in a crash that killed two people. Why didn’t he pull over if he wasn’t feeling well? I’m sure he didn’t mean for this to happen, but he’s ultimately responsible for the crash. Getting 3 years of jail time is nothing for the pain he caused the families and friends of those two victims. He will be out in 3 years or less to watch his kids grow up and live the rest of his life.
Those two people he killed? They won’t ever come back. They won’t have a second chance. How come your sympathy only extends to the man who killed them by accident, and not the ones who were killed and their loved ones?
You are worried putting him in jail won’t bring back the victims? So I guess you would agree all murderers shouldn’t be jailed because their victims won’t come back because they are jailed?
As for lessons, it teaches him that he shouldn’t be driving if he’s not feeling well, that actions have consequences, that American servicemen are not above the law, and that the Japanese people deserve justice in their homeland. Need I say more?
Let me ask you this. If a foreigner came to visit your town and killed your children in a car accident while they were walking to school. The foreigner had a massive headache (medical emergency) and lost control of the vehicle. What do you think is the appropriate punishment? It appears you would agree the foreigner should be granted a medical exemption and be allowed to go home with no consequences. Am I correct?

They were using it as an excuse to fool people who didn't know what mountain sickness really was. You could tell altitude sickness was coming which should give the driver plenty of time to stop and pull over. It's reckless he kept going. They didn't hike for days. They drove up to Mt Fuji. The accident happened on the way down. If you watched the video, the crime scene was on flat land, meaning it was at the foot of the hill. You don't get mountain sickness at the foot of the hill. Tens of thousands of visitors drove up to Pike's Peak for a day trip every year, even older visitors in wheelchairs.

In the US literally no one receives prison sentences for accidents caused by sleepiness. This is unheard of in the rest of the first world. People acting like this sentence is small are delusional. Literally every day people die from car accidents due to poor mistakes, I guess we need to build hundreds of more prisons and start locking up all the bad drivers. But just like Brittany Griner, you do the crime you do the time I guess.

Mt Fuji is not even as high as some of the peaks in Colorado. Tens of thousands of people, of all ages, drive up to Pike's Peak each year in CO. If he experienced altitude sickness, he should have pulled over. It's reckless to keep going. Three years is too light.

Some people get sick around top of fuji area. But it’ll go away till you go back.
There are some pro climbers there and they see everyone’s faces, if they think it’s bad they talk, they don’t let you keep climbing.

In the past, three American soldiers attacked a child. When Japan tried to try that case, they tried to obstruct it, but japan convicted them.
In the U.S., they made a drama modeled on that case, with the terrible content of acquitting them.
What is going on with the consciousness of human rights in the U.S.?

Even good soldiers can sin, but if they atone for their sins they can move on.
But Arkonis lied in court. He explained that he had suffered from altitude sickness, which caused the car accident. The altitude at the scene was 1000 feet. The altitude in Las Vegas is 1,900 feet, so he claimed that he got altitude sickness at a much lower altitude than Las Vegas. A proper court would have found it impossible to accept his claim and the sentence was three years imprisonment. But Arkonis was not convinced. He made friends with politicians, twisted the sentence and walked away from atonement for his crimes.
He has since appealed to be a returning POW and naval hero, which is nothing more than an insult to the US Navy.

I don't think not too many Americans are aware that people who serve the American military in foreign base don't get brought to justice by the local law. I used to live in Germany, Japan and Korea and these kind of things happen a lot. A lot of minors get r*ped by service man knowing that they wouldn't get severe punishment. I love the military but this is a huge problem and these things can make America look bad.

Three years in jail is a slap on the wrist for killing two people. After three years that wife gets her husband back but those two people are still dead. I bet the wife would be singing a different tune if someone killed two members of her family. I'm sure she would want the killer to be punished to the fullest. It's always different when it happens to you or your loved ones.

Altitude sickness - 1.) It has to be very high altitude and 2.) there are other symptoms other than fainting including severe oxygen shortage and breathing issues because of which the fainting happens.
So it's highly unlikely that that the accident happened as a result of his passing out.
Your husband killed two people and he is only going to prison for 3 years so only 1.5 years of prison time for 1 person's life. He got away with a very light sentence.
