    This vid just saved me a headache at the hill tomorrow lol My regular boots crapped out the other day so I pulled out an old pair from like 10 years ago, only a half size larger but man the footprint is hefty. I was fully prepared to ride and slide with an extra inch of overhang, the demo you did made it click that I could just simply slide my bindings back to at least have balanced overhang

    Two things. Testing on a hard surface only gives a general idea, since in snow your edge will be digging in. Also, certain brands have more compact, smaller footprint boots. Burton are among the best for small footprint boots.
    One other factor to consider is not only waist width, but also nose and tail width will affect the width at the inserts.

    This only works if you ride on flat ground. The angle of the slope is going to change that measurement, even if you're not riding perpendicular to the fall line.

    I wear size 12 boots and my board is 257 waist width which is fairly wide and I still boot out a lot. I like to carve deep and ride steep slopes. I'm looking at getting the new Never Summer proto synthesis 'DF' variant (drag free) which is a 280 waist. Never summer makes a few 'DF' boards this year.

    In my view, and of everyone I've ever spoken to, the boots should be placed with equal toe and heel overhang. If you are wanting to have more overhang on one side due to booting out then get a wider board - don't take your boots out of the central position.

  • @EmilyVidd
    @EmilyVidd หลายเดือนก่อน

    Let's comment on a 5 year old video. Lol
    Is the rider aiming to learn to carve? Learn on an industry standard width board and if you have ridiculously large feet consider risers or custom. Factor in binding and boot profile to help decrease drag.
    Is the rider aiming to carve with higher edge angles, once they can actually carve? Get a full camber board and then take measurements to determine the width that would prevent boot out. By this stage in your progression you should probably be able to determine that for yourself but ask people who make custom boards for guidance. Does industry standard cater to high edge angle carves? No, but most riders don't require it until later in their progression, so I can see why so many boards are average width.
    Never let any random person tell you what width because they may not understand your experience and riding goals.
    I'm 5'3" weighing 115 on a 149cm with a 27cm waist. I like it for carving groomers but I also excelled on an industry standard never summer board, with a tiny 23.7cm waist. I carved with boot out. Thought my edges left super wide pencil lines because my toes dragged. My goals changed and I wanted something different in my carving so I went wide with a 2ish cm increase then later 3.7 increase. Well it's perfect but the speed I have, now that my toes are out of the snow, is ridiculous. I was used to carving with drag and ripped. My wide set up is perfect on specific terrain, but factor in crowds and choppy snow on my dream setup and it still presents challenges. The biggest challenge is I take up an unusual amount of space, which makes it hard for other skiiers and riders to anticipate my turns.

    Size 11 booter here and new rider. Thinking of going with a 155 regular [250mm] over a 156 wide [260mm]. I just don't see why a beginner would want a wide board. If you move the discs closer or further from your heels, then you can increase or minimize heel drag. In my case moving the discs 1 notch closer to the heel side of the boot would give me the best clearance for toe and heel on my 250mm board.

    That is very interesting, I have size 12 boot and been riding 2 wide boards (My current one is a GNU Skunkape 161W), yet keep booting out during carves/sharp turns and been a bit jelly on people with smaller feet, but your bindings/boots have more of a clearance of the snow because of the bootkick that you call it. My GNU Speed-ins and Deeluxe boa focus boots have more overhang and more flat structure which surely invites for catching. Maybe I need to get other boots & bindings to solve my big feet issue.. Too bad it aint cheap

    If you press the camber down how it would be in a turn, you’ll see that you will boot out sooner. I ride the signal park series 156 and have an 11.5 boot. No issues but I think signals are mid wide. Bindings matter too. Also, a wide board is usually only .5cm wider. Best thing to do with big feet is ride duck stance. • @backyardsnowboarder4729
      @backyardsnowboarder4729  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your welcome. I'm not an expert so take my advise as more a review. I wouldn't get a smaller boot because if your feet get hot they may swell and expand causing pain. I would go with the 12. I wear 12 shoe and a 13 burton boot. I also spent a ton on my burton step on bindings so I wanted to make sure they fit right. So I would focus on the board. The wide boards vary a ton so you need to actually measure where your feet will be on the board. If you use a 24 inch stance you can get away with a less wide board since your feet are closer to the ends of the board. I have other videos were I measured the spots of my bindings. Check them out and let me know if this helps.

    • @backyardsnowboarder4729
      @backyardsnowboarder4729  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate when someone gives me this answer, but “It depends”. I just bought my son size 11 burton boots and he has to use a large binding with the Step on. If your boot requires a certain size binding for that boot, you have to keep that size binding. Now when it comes to overhang, that will depend on if it is the toe edge or heal edge. As you see here it was my heal edge. I was also riding a 151cm with a size 13 and I don’t have an issues with my 154cm Gilson. It’s also depends on riding style because there is a TH-camr that is awesome craver and he actually has small feet and he has more wide board so he can do euro craving style. I did do another video where I just put my board on table to see the tilt before hitting. Hopefully this helped.
