How did you spec out the holster when ordering to get it to work with the 17 and 19 with different WML? I'm struggling to decided which way too go as I have nearly the identical to setups you have there, and I don't want to have to buy a bunch of different holster setups for very similar guns. Thanks!
Spec it for the 6000 series for 17 or 34 with X300. The holsters themselves are the same, it's just the plugs for different barrel lengths that's different. They are shaped for all of the lights. It's when you go 7000 or 8000 series where it gets more specific, so avoid those. They also suck. 😂
You're correct. The thumb guard is an additional security feature but not a true additional level of retention. As for nomenclature, not that it matters as each company's nomenclature seems to vary. Safariland doesn't consider the passive friction from the holster fitment as "retention" either. Their active retention being ALS as 1 level standalone, SLS holding 2 levels standalone, and ALS/SLS combo being 3 levels. There is a 4th level option available as well that requires conscious release of the lock prior to SLS and ALS. Safariland also has ALS Guard and SLS Guard available to add retention to ALS or SLS only holsters. Safariland considers the motions as the retention level. This is all assuming the holster was configured this way and it's a 6000 series variant. Obviously, the other variants have different styles of retention. You can see their nomenclature here: inside.safariland.com/education/how-retention-testing-works/ TL;DR none of this matters. LOL
Not without modifying the holster extensively. The level 1 (or 2 I guess) doesn't have provisions for the SLS mechanism or other features and the belt attachment mounting point is at a higher position than on the native level 3+ systems. What you can do is look at the ALS Guard or Sentry add-ons from Safariland to "up" your retention level. I've used the ALS guard on some of my previous ALS only holsters and they work fine. I just no longer need additional retention so the ALS nub works best for me.
Really stupid question: how does the holster interface with the belt? It looks like there is a clip that interfaces with something, I'm just not sure what.
Sometimes all you can find are LV3 or you realize you don't want the SLS mechanism. It's easier to mod and go back if you need to rather than buy/sell. Options are options. I didn't note it here but there's also a mod using the former LV3 holes instead of the current UBL holes. It lowers the holster and allows you to run the UBL high. This prevents holster tilt on the draw and alleviates the need for a leg strap. John at Kinetic Consulting discusses it several times in his belt videos and I've also posted about it through my IG and FB. I just haven't made a video on it yet but all or my holsters and belts are setup that way now.
Thank you for this video. Answered all my questions and then some.
Absolutely! I'm glad that it helped. Some of my other vids also touch on this subject and others. Specifically the belt line videos.
I need to get one now. Looks like it’ll definitely increase the size of my nub for easy strokes 🤣

Awesome, Thanks for the quick reply!@@bunnyoperator
@@MadeofSpareParts24 Happy to help. Feel free to reach out here or my other socials if you need more help with this or anything else.
Awesome!!! Now I gotta get one for myself 😁
The thumb guard is not a level of retention, the third level is the actual fit of the holster

Can you convert up from level 1- level 4 if you wanted to? Currently have a level 1 and was just curious on the customization of the holster.

Not really on some you can add a bale guard etc or sentinel maybe get one more level but that's about it
Hey bunny,
Where can we find you buddy’s (dlc_solutions ) website. There isn’t a link to purchase his mods on Instagram. Thank you
I don't think he's selling yet. Keep checking his IG for updates.
@@bunnyoperator I will, let him know were awaiting his products!!!
Im still waiting 😭

Damn, nevermind. I watched this over a day or 2 and forgot the first of the video with the link to your brlt video.
Great work!
Thank you.
Why would you pay for level 3 just to turn it into level 1? It dont make sence to me.
