Lampard was coached by 3 of the four and you really can’t say the same about him, so it’s also about the way he played the game and his footballing intelligence and analysis. those managers are an important part of it but it’s not obvious at all
Benitez in between those three is like Rashford with Mbappe and Haaland

It also helps having a coach that was a great player. This man won it all and he wasn’t the fastest guy but he was always 2 steps ahead of everyone mentally. When someone of his caliber speaks you listen and try to take in all the info he gives. World Cup winner, 2x euro cup winner, 2x ucl winner. Absolute legend.
Love at the end that he still knows he’s the best passer haha. I remember a similar interview about Steve Gerrard at Rangers when the players were saying he would demonstrate passes they couldn’t make. Must be an interesting dynamic

@@Deathmare235 Trent actually reminds me the most of Xabi because he attempts alot more driven long pass Xabi style. I do hope he eventually just shifts to a CDM as it fits him more. Although I would say Xabi was obviously better because he did switchups and in general had more passing range which Trent doesn't do as much.

@@Deathmare235u can’t compare xabi passes with Trent if u really watched xabi in the national team and any club he played for u would know that xabi is the better passer, xabi would give u 10 out of 10 long or short passes especially his long passes while Trent would still give 8 out of 10
Unfortunately the players who score are praised and remembered better. But the ones like Xabi Alonso are the quintessence of football. Intellect, precision and hard work on the pitch.
All credit to Xabi and Leverkusen hope they win the league. I would love to see him as a Liverpool manager one day down the line when his contract ends.

Bundesliga in recent years I see far too many good players and coaches from Marco Reus, Muller, Lewandowski to Musiala, Guirassy, Bonniface, Wirtz, Brandt, Havertz, etc. Coaches: from Klopp to Flick, Nagelsmann and now Xabi

I watched Leverkusen when I was in Germany, against Mainz in Mainz. They looked very impressive and the way they knew when to change tempo, directness and pressing intensity, was very impressive. If they can keep Xabi, they can push upwards even more and I'd love for it to be tough for Bayern to win their titles against such quality consistently

Granit Xhaka. It surprised me that he was part of the incredible story at Leverkusen. Mainly because of the turmoil that seemed to follow him at Arsenal under Arteta. He seemed damaged goods there but to be flourishing under Alonso.

Opposite approach to Chelsea. Chelsea have bought good players with an incredible ceiling but at too young to be consistent and relied upon with such pressure, Leverkusen signed consistent efficient players. It shows in the way both teams play. Not digging Chelsea, the talent is phenomenal and will come good im sure, but with the way they scouted, it would always happen.
