It may have been recorded by the Pogues, but was written in 1949 by Ewan McColl about Salford.

@@blainevaq I originally learned from Ewan himself back in the late 60s. Ewan was the 'father' of the English folk music revival and was an inspiration to a whole generation of British folk musicians. Not many realise that he also wrote 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', later recorded by Roberta Flack, for his then wife Peggy Seeger. Ewan was also the father of the late Kirsty McColl, who sang with the Pogues on 'Fairy Tale of New York'.

It is good manners to credit the person who actually wrote the song. The 'Gas works croft' has long since been demolished but immortalised in the song if you bother to sing the words that Ewan MacColl wrote.
Unfortunately when asked to do a lesson by someone or band I attempt to help the person out an I dont go into the whole history of the song.
This is basic guitar lessons not educational videos A-Z.
Though you look like an expert in that field so I am very glad you go in touch.

Not playing a C
Thanks for getting in touch, sorry but I'm not sure what you mean buddy. You're not going to play a C or dont think there should be a C..?
@@blainevaq you are playing an fmajor7 where a C should be played. You are saying a C but it doesn’t look that way
Unfortunately it is a C chord that I'm playing there. Not an Fm7, that's why I'm calling out C. The Fm7 sound is much deeper and wouldnt sound correct.
The chords are in the description also.

At the start of the tutorial I explain what chords I use. If your struggling to understand the sounds maybe you should play that song with a Fm7 and then a C see which version sounds correct and hopefully you will realise that it's a C chord being played.
