  • Geralyn Ritter from New Jersey survived one of the worst train crashes to date. She was on Amtrak 188 when the train, going 106 mph, derailed circling a curve designed for 50 mph. Eight people died, and hundreds were injured. After the accident, Geralyn's husband, Jonathan, learned of a Jane Doe at a Philadelphia hospital. Her injuries were so bad that he didn't recognize her. "Life can change in a second," she said to Inside Edition Digital's Andrea Swindall

At the time, the rail curve they were going was not ATC protected, and the driver was tried for manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and causing a disaster-like scene as a result of his negligence.
A hearing from the safety board said that the derailment was caused by a loss of situational awareness, and the driver of the train said he recalled that something hit his windshield that may be thrown up by an oncoming commuter train.
Initially he was charged two times for all 8 manslaughter counts, and the safety board said that all of this could’ve been prevented had a PTC system been in place to force the train to slow down. As of recent, the driver was acquitted on all counts.

She’s such an optimistic and positive person, it’s contagious. I’ve suffered an injury, and it does affect you emotional. It’s changed me forever, but I am grateful for what I still have. My accident was a joke compared to hers, just a broken leg with complications, but that was enough for me. I wish her ongoing contributions healing and happiness.

You're one amazing lady, with resilience I've seldom seen. I await many surgeries due to my body caving in on itself from osteoarthritis. My clinic nurse suspects I have osteoarthritis too, so I'm awaiting blood test results. Until tonight I was convinced that I'm one of the few pain riddled people in earth, but I have changed my mind in a big way now - thanks to watching your story! Geralyn, you're my muse - thank you for your honest recounting of your painful situation and miraculous survival. All the best to you for your total healing. May you be miraculously touched and healed by our Lord. Love from Mossel Bay in South Africa 🇿🇦 xxx
