    I am fine using a sulfate clarifying shampoo. It's the only thing that's going to get the gunk out. I have fine curly/wavy hair and sulfate-free/silicone-free products tend to build up for me overtime.

    Hey Courtney! I've thoroughly enjoyed and learned A LOT from you over the past year of watching your videos and I love seeing your channel grow. Even more so because I love to see a fellow Christian thriving :) I wanted to tell you about the end-all be-all ALL NATURAL homemade gel that has changed my hair forever. Flax seed gel. There's plenty of videos that go over how to make it, but you just bring water to a boil with some flax seeds and reduce the heat until it turns into a nasty snot-like consistancy. It's very cheap to make and it will keep in the fridge for 3 weeks. It gives me curl clumps that I had real trouble establishing before, it gives me shine and best of all, it does not dry out my hair in the least. I literally just wash, condish, apply a leave-in and then the flax seed gel.
    I feel like you would really appreciate something like this and would love to see you try it out and say what you think!
    Either way, I love your energy and Christian presence that you bring to TH-cam, keep it up, it's appreicated by over 100k people!
    Much love,
    Heidi

    I completely agree with you about the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt deep conditioner. I used to use it as my go to for when my hair needed protein, but I never really saw my hair curl up after using it. I didn't even realize it wasn't working until I used the Hask Keratin deep conditioner twice in a row and my hair actually started to form waves on its own after getting out the shower. I barely had to do anything to it when styling to get it to form nice looking waves/curls. With the SM deep conditioner, I was still fighting my hair to get it to style the way I wanted it to because it wasn't depositing enough protein into my hair.

    I also don't typically like shea moisture products, BUT I really like their meadowfoamate and marshmallow extract silicone free primer & styler (something like that, it has a pink spray nozzle and a deep blue label). It's a leave in conditioner that DOESN'T have coconut oil like everything else they make and the Shea butter is like halfway down the ingredients list. So it's not heavy and has a ton of slip. I LOVE it as a quick "dry" refresh (meaning i mux it with some water in my hand then lightly glaze and scrunch). It's probably my number 1 refresh product 💜💜💜

    Hi Courtney my two absolute favourites from affordable brands are: the giovanni hard hold gel and the shea moisture castor oil leave in. I have very thick, course textured, wavy/curly, highlighted and dry hair (even nearly two years into my natural texture journey). I have eczema on the scalp and very dry skin - so dry hair is my natural hair type and not a temporary condition. My hair loves oils/butters and as much moisture as I can get into it. The thick shea moisture leave in works really well for me (I also use masks every wash as conditioner). I do like the shea moisture masks, but also use the maui moisture masks frequently. The gel from giovanni (when emulsified with water to help it distribute) really holds my hair for most of the week between washes. It also doesn't irritate my scalp which many of the highly scented gels do. I use a fragrance free shampoo from Boots (expert line for sensitive scalp) and whichever conditioner/mask I feel like that week. I'm not really following the cgm, as I don't mind a little amodimethicone in my stylers. I stay away from the heavier silicones though and do a deep cleanse around every 4 - 6 weeks with a deep conditioner left on for at least half an hour that day. I tried going completely silicone free for a long time, but my hair gets very tangled and the small amount of silicone helps with that. Best wishes.

      @THE_K_HOUSE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this is what I need, some stylers that have amodimethicone in it. I've been contemplating introducing lighter silicones back into my routibe for awhile but I feel so brainwashed to avoid them. What stylers have you found that you like that have amodimethicone? My hair gets so so tangled and it's crazy bc I take all the steps to avoid that and it still happens.

      @@THE_K_HOUSE Hi used a Phillip Kingsley styler for a while, but this Summer was very humid and my normal stylers weren't working. I'm currently using the maui moisture mask as a leave in conditioner (it says on the jar it can be used this way), their curl cream and the tresemme curl mousse. The mousse has some silicone and isn't as drying as gel, but it has great hold. This combo leaves me with fat ringlets when I use it and I'm happy with it. Like most curly girls I experiment with products. The giovanni serum I have also used has a little silicone and matched well with the gel. If you're worried about silicones - they're not all created equal. I have heavy, thick, dry and frizzy hair (type 2c/3a). I do apply oil to the ends through the week and a little to the nape of the neck where I'm always tangled. I sleep in a bonnet and with a silk pillowcase - these really make a huge difference. I hope that helps.

    I'm a wavy/curly girl with fine, silky hair. I can not use conditioner of any kind or I look like an oil slick, seriously. I also have to use fragrance free products in the shower or my scalp is very, very unhappy. My absolute favorite shampoo is Paula's Choice All Over Hair and Body Wash. No scent and it doesn't strip my hair. It's unavailable right now so I bought a bottle of the Hairitage fragrance free shampoo and it's doing well too. No idea if they are "approved" or not, but they're working. I bought a bottle of the Neutrogena shampoo but it seemed to take the curl right out of my hair. I use both, Aussie Instant Freeze gel and the mousse. They work well. Going to try out Harry's and see how it goes. Hoping the scent isn't too overwhelming. Anyone else wish that they'd tone down the scents in products?

    Cantu's Avocado hydrating cream shampoo/conditioner are great drug store choices that don't weigh down my fine-ish curls. They also have a flaxseed smoothing line (only have the conditioner which is listed as rinse out or leave in but is a bit thick as a leave in for me) which is awesome too!

    That Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil mask is actually so hydrating that it overhydrates my hair after only leaving it in for a few minutes in the shower. It’s a shame because it smells so amazing. I think the JBCO Strengthen & Restore mask might be closer to the “power protein treatment” mask but I still need to try that one.
