    Nice review. I have grown weary of so many reviewers who feel the need to make every video a comedy sketch, to the point it overshadows any useful factual content. Yours has a nice balance of personality and info :) I am waiting for my A1 to arrive, most interested in the high ISO performance, I shoot an A7R4 as my primary camera for work, so I know the A1 will be better than that at least based on the resolution.

      Thanks! Since I’m rather a practical user type than reviewer my goal is to show these cameras I’m able to test out in a real scenario, or at least something similar to real life scenario of the stuff that I do shoot. Glad you liked it! I wanted to make an ISO test for A7RIV vs A1, but hadn’t had both of these at the same time on me. I checked it vs A7RIII and have to say it’s pretty good!

    Am not yet a sony shooter but having sync speed of up to 1500 in a crop mode is gold for outdoor portrait photographers like me .
    With a 1200w light one can conquer the ambience light.
    Am looking to add sony to my work system but am waiting to see what the A7 IV will be .

    Awesome video Maciej. Do you find the A1 is noticeably more responsive at changing settings than the A9ii or the A7iii?

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer
      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It does seem more responsive, menu is faster, and basically all the operations feel 'snappier'. Plus - I didn't mention in this video (only on previous review) that if the camera is clearing the buffer you can pretty much do everything in the menu, change settings etc, so that is pretty different from the older cameras that just needed to clear it first

    Aperture drive is available on A9MK1 . It only works with electronic shutter and only with Sony lenses not Tamron Etc. The only time my A9 is very bad at focusing is in low light above f4 when I'm doing group shots using flash. The 17 year Canon 20D was far, far better than my A9 In this situation. The mirrorless cameras inability to use the flashes infrared beam is the one area where a DSLR is way better. From your test the A1 looks to address this with better focusing with smaller apertures

    Well, I was rather expecting more practical comparison. This video was too much about the specs which can be found anywhere on the internet and people who aim at these expensive cameras usually have enough experience to tell, whether or not they need 50 megapixels or 30 FPS... I was hoping to see more of like comparing colours out of the camera, ability to set the custom buttons and stuff like that which you can't read from the specs. Well, I have had both cameras in my hands (not at the same time, and A1 very briefly) but as I use the A7 IV, I was a little disappointed that the A9 II gives the user fewer choices in terms of customization. And I think this is quite important as well, If you're going to use the camera on a daily basis.

  • @MoLetalis
    @MoLetalis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    - 30 fps is only compatible with one or two lenses
    - anyone who owns an a9ii, doesn't really use F16 or slower
    - A9ii is not half the price; in the Netherlands it's €5300 vs A1 €7300 (still 2k cheaper lol)
    - if video and high resolution matters, buy A1. If only sports/wildlife photography matter for you, buy an A9

    So I shoot mainly indoor performance under stage lighting - usually quite poor - would the A1 be a better bet or is the performance under these conditions with the A9 2 not significantly any better and certainly not to justify paying twice as much for it. I don't shoot machine gun style but I do these days often have to shoot under LED lighting and silently especially if it's a monologue or a solo piano performance. As you have tested both cameras your opinion would be very welcome - thanks!

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer
      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you shoot wide open I'd say you'd be as good with A9II as with A1. Unless you'll benefit from that extra speed and frames per second...

    • @fudgiecat
      @fudgiecat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MagicWeddingPhotographer Thanks so much for your reply ! I very rarely shoot more than one/two frames in a sequence so speed is never an issue - what i really need is great high ISO performance under poor light coupled with reliable AF - can I ask you another question please - did you test the anti flicker settings? - modern LED stage lighting and electronic shutters don't mix - the dreaded banding - does the A9II eliminate this as I have read that the A1 does a much better job - but I haven't seen any conclusive evidence. If it is a case of having to use the mechanical shutter then the resulting noise can be a real problem with some artists and audiences.... I really appreciate your thoughts!

      Hey Barry! Haha, indeed - the map that I bought in Queenstown! Love NZ, wish to come back one day. And yeah, thanks for kind words about the video. @@karlbratby4349 Hi Karl, since making that comment 2 months ago I changed my mind again and ended up trading both bodies anyway haha. I don't miss the a7RIV and as much as I enjoyed the a9II the a1 is just like a upgraded version of that camera that's just that little bit better in every way. And with the new compressed lossless RAW format files I can shoot 50MP with a file size that's only a little bigger than the 24MP RAWs from the a9. Win win really. I did rent an a9II to shoot a wedding recently so I got to shoot them side by side and basically the two cameras feel nearly identical in the hand... but that a1 EVF is truly glorious!!

Started shooting landscapes and have moved into taking some portraits, wildlife and perched birds. I’m also thinking about getting into shooting some birds in flight. If not buying an A1, what would be a good to camera solution if keeping the budget around $4500 to $5000. I can get the A7R3a($2000), A7R4a($2600), A7IV ($2600), A9 II ($3300) and an A9 ($2400). Niestety nie jest tak kolorowo a wręcz przeciwnie . Polityka Sony to porażka . Brawo SONY !!

    If you are going to be on TH-cam, you should post a video without you wearing a hat. Because right now, you are telling the whole world you cannot be open and honest. Your biggest fear is shown in every video when we see you.

      @@katielark1 You don't know what I'm talking about because you probably still have yours and you don't have to try to hide reality. Nobody wants to watch a youtuber trying to hold secrets, but the thing is not even a secret, so just come clean so we don't have to question what else you are hiding from viewers.
