I visit East Tennessee often and hope to live in the Johnson city area sometime in the next couple of years. I’m a life long trout fisherman. I would love to know where those falls are located.
Awesome job!!! What a beautiful trout. My biggest rainbow and brown on a fly rod are both 21”. They are so fun to fight on the fly rod. Congrats on a great fish!!
Sorrt for the late comment but just now come across this video but where is this at ? Didnt even know watagua had a water fall around it. Is this in Carter county or where abouts ?
@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher o ok...im familair with watagua some but not a lot....i know where the section is they call the tropy section and that area some...is it close to that at fall ? We've tried to get in down that area some but not been to successful yet (we wade with waders)....that looked like a awesome place to fish....
Its an awesome place to fish. I believe you need a boat to get to that particular area. It's surrounded by private land on both sides. If you have a boat, launch from the Wagner Boat Ramp and go down the river a quarter mile. @@jonathanhankins790
@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher o ok ya i know where wagner is...thats at the trophy section (thats what a guy at church told me it was anyway ha) but whats the building or whatever across from it on the other aide ? Id love to find some area down in there too wade kut and fish some but i dont think that's possible...pretty deep right in that area.
Hey Cody, thanks for asking. On that particular day I was using a five weight but I don’t remember the exact set up since I was using Loguns Rod. You may try reaching out to Logun Shell for the exact setup.
Michael. Great video. I understand that the dam on Boone Lake is about to be fixed. You mentioned striped bass eating the trout. How far up will Boone Lake's water rise? And how will this affect the trout fishing in the area you floated?
Hey Larry, they finished the damn last year. It is now officially normal. They should be at full pool In about a month. For years the TWRA has only stocked the lower section with large trout. So as the big striper move in the smaller trout will move up and the big ones will stay where they are. From April through August there’s a chance for big striper on that section
wow! That was a great 5+ minute fight for a trout. I know nothing about fly fishing. Do you just pull the line in with hand and throw line all over the boat?
Yeah so you slowly pull the trout back with the Flyfishing line. Typically you just try to make sure you let it drop down in one place as you retrieve the fish. Completely different type of fishing but super fun. If you happen to catch a monster that takes all of the slack line out you can actually just real it in like a normal scenario
That was awesome. Congrats..Great stuff.
Thanks, appreciate it. Always a fun time with Mr. Logun Shell In the Hyde drift boat.
Epic!
Thanks Ken

@@kenmartin1919 it's a few hundred yards down river from Wagner Boat Ramp.
Big fish big fish big fish.
Yeah, First big fish on the fly rod with super light line. Made for an epic battle
How do we get there
You go to Watauga River access ramp at Wagner boat ramp.
Does this take you to the waterfall ?
@@trevorbramlett9157 Yes, its not far from there down river.
Awesome video!!! Well done
Thanks, it was a blast catching those trout
That was super exciting. Great job!

that particular float was on the lower end of the river near the town of Watauga.

What a lot of people don't realize Micheal is you had to play that fish so much because you was using 6.5X tippet which relates to about 3lb test.
Correct, it’s a completely different ball game.
What a monster!! Great job, that looked like a fun fight!
Thanks Justin
What fly and rig setup were you using to catch the monster under the falls? It looks like deeper water.

Nice. Mind if I ask what fly you had tied on?
I don’t mind, unfortunately Logun was the one that rigged my rod. So I sincerely can’t remember.

We got out at a camping area. I’m not sure about the specifics.

Where is this water fall at? By Watauga Lake or Boone?
It’s in the town of Wataga on Watauga river.
Awesome video bud !! The horny head are biting at the cover bridge right now in front of the dam you should check it out.
Fantastic, I love catching those chubs! Appreciate the tip
was they generating when you made this video?
I don’t believe they were generating on our particular trip
