    Narrow footpath level crossing across the East Coast Main Line (ECML), south of Biggleswade. There are only signs warning to look out for trains, with no visual or audible warnings. Biggleswade station can be seen in the distance and the busy A1 passes over the line just beside this crossing. There are good views in each direction, however you would need to stand past fencing on one side to see trains approaching in either direction.
    Thanks For Watching!

    Nice video! Surprised they haven't put any signals in here, TBH. If not too many people use it, an MCB-OC could work well here.

      Thanks 😁 It does seem quite a strange crossing. An MCB-OC crossing more than likely cannot be installed here due to design and crossing regulations. I guess it’s fine as it is, since not a lot of people use it

    Why isn't there a voice warning or alarm for when a "train in excess of 100MPH" could come through at any time 😐

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s good visibility at this crossing so you can see trains a good and safe distance away. Plus, not many people use this crossing on a day to day basis.

    How much did this level crossing cost to build?
    I guess National Rail were VERY CHEAP on this one. No warning lights or alarms, just a piece of wood on the tracks and a few signs at both ends and, wham bam, you've got yourself a level crossing.

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not very costly at all I imagine. This crossing has probably existed here for many years prior and there's been to need or requirement to change it.

    You’d think they’d have lights and an audible warning at this crossing considering how fast trains travel on this line.

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it seems strange that there are only signs here. However, there are good views in either direction and I don’t think many people use this crossing anyway.

  • @dragondancer1814
    @dragondancer1814 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’m surprised there’s no visible signal lights or audible alarm that goes off when a train is coming so some wanker who’s lost in their own little world doesn’t get flattened by an oncoming train! Or is this one of the paths less traveled?

    • @ElectraProductions225

      It's literally either side of a field with the most stinging nettles I've seen haha. Primrose is much more dangerous

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t look like it’s used very frequently. The visibility up and down the line here is actually quite good so you’ll be able to see a train a reasonably safe distance away.

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UKLevelCrossingsChannel when you looked to the right, I could see the track curving, which surely must cut right into visibility when crossing the other way. At 125mph it takes less than 30 seconds to cover a mile so if your eyesight isn't stellar, you could struggle to see a train a mile or two off, so I think this sort of crossing really ought to have a mini red/green light and an alarm
