    Absolutely loud pipes save lives I've been riding for over 35 years on the road in traffic okay when you got loud pipes they don't have to be that loud but when you have louder pipes. people drive around with their windows up their radio on so they don't hear you and they decide to cut over to the right without using their blinker and you happen to be in that area with the loud pipe that's happening to me many times soon as I give it a little gas they hear it boom they pull back over so absolutely 100% louder pipes save lives

  • @nobaddaystravel6855
    @nobaddaystravel6855 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree with you on the whole loud pipes saves lives things. I say that because I did EMS for 14 years and our dual siren speakers were pointed toward toward other vehicles. They still failed to notice and hear us and pull over. Exhaust pipes are pointed backward away from the vehicle ahead of you.

    "Loud pipes save lives" - maybe higher pitched loud pipes, might have some use letting others know where you are but not the low deep rumble of a Harley. The ear has a difficult time perceiving the direction off bass sounds and a much easier time with higher pitched sounds, like a horn.

    • @2kanchoo
      @2kanchoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With aftermarket pipes the "low pitched" pipes are more than loud enough to be heard unless cruising at idle rpm's. I've used my exhaust by revving it to alert vehicles to not switch lanes right into me plenty of times.

    • @MajorKRAZI
      @MajorKRAZI 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@2kanchoo I'm not saying it has zero effect but a horn is more effective because of its tone, people in cars are more tuned to listening for horns & if the person in the car has as sub & loud bass heavy music playing it will again lessen the effect of the pipes, the horn will stand a better chance of cutting through.

    • @nobaddaystravel6855
      @nobaddaystravel6855 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2kanchoo I’ve done that with my stock pipes on my 18 RoadGlide Ultra

    • @2kanchoo
      @2kanchoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MajorKRAZI I get what you're saying about tone but you've obviously never ridden or been anywhere near a bike with aftermarket pipes. They are magnitudes louder than a horn, like not even remotely close in decibel level. Even if the person has music blaring they will hear aftermarket pipes over a horn, trust me.

    Couldn’t agree more on the pipes front.
    Loud pipes save lives is a cop out. Training and education save lives. If someone catches you out and pulls out on you, it’s not because they didn’t hear you, it because you weren’t prepared for them to do it.

  • @HPG45
    @HPG45 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just bought a '19 Road Glide Special with the same 114. Maybe it's due to the fairing, but the bike (to me) has PLENTY of rumble. Granted, I've done a Saddlesore on a Shadow with straight pipes, which was a hard lesson learned (nothing like hearing "blubblublubblubblub" mixed with tinnitis for two days afterwards), so no aftermarket pipes for me. Also, coming off an FJR1300, the 114 has plenty of power stock.

    It would be nice to see a slow 360 walk around. The viewer can not see what the bike looks like from the riders view. It would be really cool to have a guy filming from a bike riding next to you. People could see how it looks during acceleration, how it handles the corners, and the rider position, the whole stance of the bike. I still enjoy your videos and have learned many things on all the bikes you review ; Thanks !

    I own a 19 FLHRXS with 114ci (Road King Special) I love my loud pipes. I know this is anecdoteI.. but while riding they are not that loud but if I really get on it and wrap throttle people pay more attention then when I hit more horn. In fact I dont even use more horn any more. As soon as I see a situation about to occur, I wrap my throttle and people pay attention. I hit more horn and they continue to pull out in front of me or cut me off. I also live in florida where nobody pays attention in traffic and you have to be an aggressive driver here or get ran over and or hit. People hear a motorcycle engine and think twice here in florida. People hear a horn in florida and keep pulling out or proceed to cut you off intentionally.

    I don't like having to follow a "control" person in front of you during a "TEST" ride. Test rides is to "TEST" the bike, not just "coast" along like this test ride. Sorry you had to put up with it Sean.... I think Kawasaki had the Vulcan 2000 with the 125 cu in motor... Until Harley gets bigger than that, they will always be smaller. When you get the bigger engines, you get less mileage per gallon and more heat coming off that motor. This test ride could have been done on a 250 Honda Rebel at the speeds you were "allowed" to go. Why have a 114 cu in motor at those kinds of accelerations and speed???

    • @bonnevillebagger9147

      Agreed.

    • @michaelmorgan2880
      @michaelmorgan2880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bigger engines would probly allow for less strain on the engine at cruising speeds allowing for less engine heat and greater fuel economy.... this road king at 70mph on the freeway i feel would be cooler and more fuel efficient than say a suzuki savage

    • @ababbit7461
      @ababbit7461 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmorgan2880 I have as 80 cu in Harley and a 103 cu in Harley. The 80 cu in runs cool and gets 50 mpg. The 103 cu in runs hot, very hot and gets 40 mpg. Your legs cook in traffic on the 103 cu in and at highway speeds, you don't feel the heat. Those bigger motors create more heat and gobble the gas even though they are less stressed. Gearing is the solution to mpg with those big motors, but then you lose roll-on and start off speed when you gear it higher for better mpg.

      @@michaelmorgan2880 I am not a "grip it and rip it" type of rider. Those old Evo motors did well on the Kiehin carbs. I had an 2002 883 Sportster that would get as much as 62 mph just "puttin" around.

      Yes big v twin engines are known for torque. The inline 4 engines are known for horsepower. I always hear people comparing a Kawasaki ninja zx10r to a Harley road king and they are two completely different bikes. I prefer comfort over the ability to go 200 mph myself.

    Well I will say that I do believe loud pipes contribute to saving lives wouldn't say they do. Because of this fact what if someone isn't paying attention in their car would they see you on your bike first or hear it first. They'd definitely head you first. But that's just my opinion on it.
