I own a 2017 R K special. I have ridden H D's for way over 30 years. This is the best one so far. Old timers may complain about getting away from "old school " stuff, but I really like to ride & this bike fills the bill. * You may not like the handlebars ! Easy to change ! If you don't change the rise too much , you shouldn't need to modify any cables or wires. Very Easy job.
I bought that exact bike up here in Madison Wi. I lovveee this bike. Gorgeous midnight blue. So much power! Can’t wait for a long trip on this. Thanks for the awesome review
I just traded in my 2016 Slim S for the same bike and color. I miss my 110 ci, but I love my new Road King w/ the 114. Plus my inner thigh is no longer getting burns!
When they first introduced the Road King Special it only came equipped with the 107 Fourhead. The 114 equip is new for 2019. What makes the touring Specials special is that HDMC blacked out the models because chromed rigs are for boomers.
Yeah I really want this bike too. With that colour. Want a street bob too for around the city. I am glad Harley is starting to catch up with everyone else as well as making bikes for more then just 60 year old rich white dudes. Still have that Harley style that is so iconic but still be innovative. That fat bob is testament to that. Still a Harley yet so different. All because of the rake and that front head light. If Harley keeps doing this they might survive. Also I was a huge dyna fan and was upset about them killing the line but those new soft tails are way better. I am not even mad anymore.
Nice review stopped by Orlando Harley to pick a shirt and poker chip as we were in town from Memphis. Mitch said we missed you by an hour or so. Maybe next time. Also made it by Ace Cafe and Standard Motorcycle Co. Ensore really thought I needed a haircut but I had to pass on that.
So I have this bike. Mine is black instead of midnight blue. Bought it new with 5 miles on it. Anyway, you mentioned the seat and that you’d probably never change it and I laughed because I am 5’9” and still rocking the stock seat because it really is comfortable. Outside of that, I threw in 14” Carlini apes with Avon grips. It was nice coming across this video again because I remember watching this when it first came out I I hadn’t bought my bike yet so it was nice being able to touch up on some things that I couldn’t help but agree with (like the seating). It’s still has a stock 114 with some cobra neighbor hater slip-ons but that part will definitely be changing
Got a 2019 road king. Love it. Handlebars suck. "Road king lean" back pain bars. But I am 6'4". Traded a 2012 road king for a 2018 road glide special 107 and missed the road king. Traded the 2018 road glide special for the 2019 road king special. 114 has a noticeable power difference mostly at passing speed. Love the midnight blue.
A beauty, but the front tire looks odd. A little too low profile. Picky I know but that's all I can find that I don't like. I just wish I could get the 114 in the Deluxe.
yeah, "the seat....really comfortable", LOL. Maybe for a 20 minute ride. But not to worry, HD has an assortment of seats that would seem more comfortable and they'll happily sell you one and write it in the sales contract.
I really like the road king. I’m not necessarily looking to do huge distance rides, but since I’ve got a bad back I like the idea of upgrading to a touring frame bike. I love the specials, but I’m torn between the road king and the road glide.

They have one of these in denim white or I think its called salt something with a smoke windshield with some kind of adjustable vent on it at my Harley dealer in Pasagetdowndena. Tempting but I really like my 2018 Heritage Classic 114 not sure I want the added 100lbs but man on the highway man but on the highwayyyyyy ugggg. Very tempting. If it only had Led headlights . Does it come with abs as well?
Hey Block, noticed in the last several test ride videos, when going over the bikes you own and have owned, the Iron 883 is not mentioned. Is this intentional or a slip of memory thing? Lets not forget the girl that brought you to the Utube dance. Also, watched one of those newer guys doing test rides similar to your format. Often imitated, never duplicated :)) Congrats on plowing thru the 100k subscriber barrier.
I feel that blue in person looks better with the black. I bet the lowrider you rode in that color had a lot of chrome. Ima the shiny chrome it takes away from the color.

You can turn a road king into a street glide. I believe you can put that street glide batwing fairing on a road king. I know my uncle did with a 2010 or 11 Road king. I am pretty sure his was a Harley batwing fairing.
Hey, love your videos. I am looking to upgrade from my sportster 1200. Test road a new Street Bob, liked it, but wow did it have a strong throttle response. Also looking at the Fat Bob and Road King...which do you think the best of those three for around town and day group rides? Just wondering, I know it is all preference.
I have both this bike(2019 road king), and a 2017 street Bob. Roadkings are heavier, wider(large gas tank) , and have the bags, and the foot controls a little more front. The street Bob is lighter, thinner, no bags, and the controls are mids.
I have experience riding dirt bikes and such i haven’t rode in the past few years I’m married now looking for a nice bike I won’t grow board of is this a good fit blockhead?

I heard tell the M8 only goes to 110MPH. That's sorta lame considering my 103 can hit 120 at 4680RPMS. Damn. Hope they make it so it can hit those speeds.
Yep the limiter really tones you down. Its a very noticeable affect when your going full throttle and then you feel the bike slow down. Like this other fellow said, aftermarket tuner will take care of that.
Blockhead. When riding the Roadking did u feel maybe wider than some? I havent test rode it . Sat on one a few times but i keep feeling like my legs ar kinda crammed to close to side of engine etc. Maybe thats just me being a Big boy, but i dont seem to feel that crampedness on my Ultra classic down around leg area on bike
Hey I figured I jump and help answer your question. I have a 2018 model and I'm 6'1". Obviously leg room is an issue for me. I dont have highway pegs installed yet and I feel comfortable on this bike. I notice I tend to spread my legs out further than what most people do while riding, but never found a cramped issue when I bring my legs into towards the tank. Hope that helps.
@@gunterm2009 no doubt you should. I love my bike. I wish I waited for the 2019 models though. Not only because of the 114 upgrade but 2019 came out with more paint options. I went with all black. Be for warned if you go that route the black is extreme hard to keep clean. Im gonna try that new F11 product and see if they helps the dust build up.

sheddski Basically you are paying more for less with the RK Special except you are getting the 114 motor as opposed to the 107 with the standard RK. I have the 107 and I don't find it lacking in any way. I have had a trouble free 24,000km since I bought mine 21 months ago. The only thing I have added is mufflers and I find the performance is great. If I decide I want to ride at 300kph I'll buy a go fast Jap or Euro bike.
I have the 2018 model as well. Been having issues with the brakes squeaking. Not a little squeak, but like bare pad to disc type of squeak. Both front and rear do it. Obviously the back is more noticeable because I use it more. Back pads have already been replaced and I cleaned the discs off with brake cleaner. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue? @baggerbro

I got my '16 RK 2 months BEFORE Harley introduced the Milwaukee 8 in the summer of 2016. Maybe that's why that deal was so good... lol

The midnight blue and twisted cherry look great on the RKS.
I really like the RKS. If i ever decide to move to a bagger, this would be my first choice.
Test rode a 2020 last year and it was very comfortable and for the weight of it, it was very light feeling and easy handling bike. Its got my vote.

Blockhead please review the Deluxe!! My favorite bike.
Only thing I would change is taking the saddlebags off to ride around town and that kinda thing, sure you could do it but the bike would look weird.

Yes, I'm aware of that. He talks about the two sport bikes he use to own, but doesn't mention the Iron. That was the point of my comment.

Just test rode a 2018 street glide and road glide specials in that exact color at Tampa Harley today

Last HD are too black, few chrome and it’s a pity ‘cos custom = chrome. Hopefully the RK still looks awesome, not like last Heritage, Fat Boy, etc.

Billiard blue isn't available on the Lowrider. The only blue is Midnight blue for the Lowrider.

sheddski also no passing lamps on the special. You have to get the regular RK for chrome windshield etc. but the regular King is a 107 not 114

Exactly, at top stock speed of 115 with tail wind it peels off dermis, they know the look that sells, windshields look slow and a little ugly imo

I have the squeak too on the same model. doesn't happen all the time and mostly at low speed.
My '14 CVO RK has the once in a while squeaky brakes, too. Only at very low, almost stoped speed with very light brake pressure.
