This was my favorite time for her voice. I played the hell out of this album over and over and over again. I still play it till this very day. This is when I started listening to her. Perfect perfect excellent.
My GAWD Aretha blow!!! This sounds even better than the actual recording!!! I never see this! I’m loving it. Aretha looks amazing. ❤️I bought the album in a rare collectors records store about 20 years around and it blew me away. I had never heard this album before. This woman was undeniably a GIFT.
as a music major in college, I can remember reading autobiographies and the musical history of the greatest of the great vocalists. And it never ceased to amaze me how many times I saw the definition of "SOUL" defined in a way that was more similar among those greats, be them black or white or otherwise. And the quotes that I recall the most are the ones that I read from the likes of Aretha, James Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald, Patti LaBelle, George Clinton, Bobby WOMACK and Prince. All of them pretty much defined it the same way...with James Brown being the one who absolutely nailed it. And he said "SOUL is expressed in a way thats natural TO YOU. Your job as a singer, is connecting the soul in your gut, with what you can do with your voice...and if you can do that at the highest level, thats when the Holy Ghost walks into the room". So, when you see one of the great masters of this genre of music, in Aretha, singing SOUL...she sings in almost a surreal way, because her voice was ALWAYS connected to her soul. All you have to do to witness what Im talking about, is watching her close her eyes while she is singing. Thats!....soul.
She was singing from her very soul; I had just gotten back from Japan and was waiting to go my last station. I would lay in my mother's back yard on the deck and just drink Stolichnaya Vodka and play spades and listen to Mother Sing!
The studio version of this song is absolutely spectacular! Aretha does much more vocal pyrotechnics than she does in this live performance (although this is very good). Aretha made several excellent appearances on The Midnight Special during this period. Her live performance of "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" is one of her best.
WOW!!! Thank you so very much for posting! I've waited for all the performances she sang during this event for years; I thought it would probably never happen! She was absolutely on FIRE during this show! Her voice was absolutely in GREAT, SPLENDID FORM! The: G.O.A.T., in my opinion! Her #1 fan!
I think female soul singers like Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight didn't exist anymore. They are the 2 best in the history of soul music and no one can take their positions in the ranking and this is not to disparage Minnie Riperton, Donna Summer, Natalie Cole, Witney Houston, Mavis Staples and so many other female singers who were virtuoso in this musical genre and of course they have also gone through this fantastic program. Thank you as always TMS for this new delivery
I wore my mother's 45 out playing this over and over. The other side was Touch Me Up. Aretha Franklin the Sweet Passion album was actually a very good one. Just because disco was burning up the dance floor doesn't mean Aretha was not doing her thing. To see Lady soul sing this song again live brings back so many memories. Thanks for the memories uploader.
I always thought it was funny how during this time Aretha's voice was at it's peak and her albums sales were at their low! Arista needs to release those 5 albums from the late 70's.
Thanks so much for this. She looked and sounded amazing, lots of fun here. I'm hoping to see Meadows of Springtime from the same night, in a future post.
You are so right!!! Although, I'm not complaining! I'm GREEDY when it comes to her GLORIOUS singing! I LOVE practically EVERYTHING sung by Aretha! Her #1 fan!

All those albums You, Sweet Passion, Almighty Fire (my favorite) I play all the things from that range of time back to back. 😆😆😆😆😆❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Her range in her voice is amazing. She hits notes so effortlessly which is truly a gift from god. Great upload
its actually a gift from bob, not god. her dad was bobby.

Her voice was given so much in the seventies. Love background call and responses from Margaret Branch.

Thank God rap and hip hop hadn't infested music back then so we had classic songs by talented musicians we could look up to and respect.

Totally agree!
Keep your thoughts to yourself cuz you’re wrong and overly emotional. 😂

Great singing but not a whole lot of melody in this song.
That was the problem with most of her late 70s material. But the singing was awesome.
Yep. It's almost as though she wrote this just for some enjoyable vocal acrobatics.
It's 1970's music. We rocked to music like this back then.
You are so right!!! Although, I'm not complaining! I'm GREEDY when it comes to her GLORIOUS singing! I LOVE practically EVERYTHING sung by Aretha! Her #1 fan!
The arrangements weren't tight enough.
