She's so beautiful. I had the opportunity to meet her in person, and she is just as beautiful on the inside. Such a wonderful classy lady.
You are so lucky that happened. I am jealous 😊
Gladys Knight had it ALL! One of the all time best female singers ever! She’s got an amazing voice that she knows how to use- and, she’s absolutely gorgeous ❤❤❤
The Empress of Soul... At 79 years old, she's still cracking it out. Awarded the National Metal of Arts in 2023.
This is one of my favorite songs by the beautiful Gladys Kinght and The Pips.
The best of Soul.
Happy Sunday 🕊 Thank you for sharing! 💖
I didn't realize at the time how devastatingly beautiful Glady's Knight was.
I concur. I was thinking the same thing
+1❤❤
Yeah. She's particularly adorable here.
Shes still beautiful
Yes indeed
How can you sing so effortlessly, look so beautiful with that much soul in your voice? Me crying over my lost marriage has zero emotions compared to her singing this song!
Those Pips were amazing and styling.
I have the pleasure to meet her at Disney World years ago and she is the most wonderful lady.
You are SO lucky!
She's such a firecracker! There's nothing like a performer who pours their soul into their work.
and there's another...th-cam.com/video/7fgKhuqNtxw/w-d-xo.html
Happy 80th Birthday to Gladys Knight!
Ms Knight has the best growl in R&B history ... all her vocal flourishes truly make her music glorious
Gladys makes singing from your soul look so dang easy! She's awesome! I always loved The Pips, too! This put a smile on my face.😊✌️
Me too
I absolutely love how ridiculously gorgeous Gladys was and how her voice just brims with soul. She sings so effortlessly like she took a walk and just so happened to stop by this studio.
Gorgeous. And those Pips were amazing.
Gorgeous lady with one of the best voices ever!
I could watch this 100 times and it would not get old.
They represent the golden 70s music. These songs are multigenerational. Even now in the 2020s young people like this tunes!! Gladys The Beautiful Lady of Soul music!!
Always loved watching Gladys perform! And what a beautiful lady with a fantastic voice! ❤
The Pips bustin' those smooth ass moves and on point with the backing vocals! I can't watch the Pips without bloody crying ♥️.
Fifty years and it's still great. Remember it like it was yesterday. Thank you for posting.
Such a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice and soul. Combine her with the superb Pips, and you have a song that touches your soul like few others.
As I watch these wonderful clips from decades ago it actually saddens me. What happened to our music folks? Where did it all go wrong?
Absolutely gorgeous and just the best record ever!
You guys sure do have a way of posting musical sunshine on a Sunday morning. Love this.
Best performance of this song I've ever heard. She sounds great and that band is terrific. Big sound.
Agreed! That band is SO tight!!
Always loved the song but watching this was the first time I noticed how much the drums and bass were such a big part of driving this song along. What a great performance by all, especially the brass. Makes me sad to think a tight band and singers are a rare thing now. Used to be the only thing that brought ya success.
Yeah. It's too bad they never really showcased the folks playing the instruments when the cameras/concert venue focused mainly on the 'up-front folks' (singers/dancers). Their bassist is/was really good.
Amazing, no swearing, no need to shake the booty, just, PURE CLASS. I’m still waiting for these times to come back.
Me too sweetheart. Everyday
This is why America is Great. Nothing like this anywhere else
Gladys Knight and the Perfection In Performance Pips. Huge part of the soundtrack of our lives. Happy 80th to Gladys.❤

This content must be available in several languages; the whole world must know the truth. He was a true patriot and a prophet.
That sure as hell wasn't lip-synced.

I prefer this upbeat version over the studio cut. Damn, they're so good.
Legendary Singer
I simply adore her. I always will. I used to play her songs (on cassette!) When my son was a baby. Her voice soothed him to sleep. 🙂

I would have loved to catch that midnight train with Gladys to Georgia back in 1974. Sadly I was only four at the time.
I had a crush when I was kid and saw the vynil cover from my mother's collection...

This was '74? At just 9 years old when this was recorded, I remember this song vividly as it was always being played out of the single speaker on my Phillips a.m. radio. Thanks Gladys and gentlemen for entertaining this impressionable little boy. ✌️ y'all
✌
Performing art of the soul elevating kind.

Wow
Shes sooooo beautiful ❤
Phenomenal performance!
O love this Song...
I worked on the set with her and Patti La Belle (sp?) and Dionne Warwick for a song called, "Superwoman." All of the people on set were pros: we knew to keep to ourselves, and to NOT interfere with the production in any way. We were professionals.
And, if you don't know, music videos are generally filmed against the track recorded in the studio. It makes sense. It must match the recording to play it on MTV. This song was no different.
First came Patty Labelle. She raised her hand in the air, her signature move. Then came Dionne Warwick: her distinctive voice came through. And then: Gladys sang. Granted, she was mouthing her own words that were pre-recorded and played back on the Nagra (reel to reel playback machine); but suddenly and UNEXPECTEDLY, everyone in the room fell silent to listen to Gladys sing. It wasn't even a live performance! And, people listening started to cry.
I don't know what it is about Gladys Knight, but she is a miracle, and one of a kind. I didn't have to gutz to go up and tell her how I felt. I let it go like a professional. But I've never forgotten the POWER that she showed: the power to bring a whole crowd of people to tears, with the shear and open display of her heart.
And my point? She made me believe for the rest of my life that a person can move mountains. I've loved her ever since. God bless you, Gladys ... you are so loved. But I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that.
What class, we will never see this again.
RIP, Tony Joe White. Gladys and the Pips do justice to this song.
Backing band crushing it!
My favourite song of all time.
A TRUE BEAUTIFUL 🖤 BLACK SOUTHERN BELL!!!! AN AMAZING VOICE!
Wonderful song. Gladys really poured her heart into this song. Trivia: This song was written by a close friend of actress Farrah Fawcett. She had told him that she had a "midnight plane to Houston" to visit her parents. It stuck in his head and he wrote this award winning song.
It was, however, first recorded by Cissy Houston ( Whitney's Mom). Gladys Knight and the Pips' version became the most popular and the bigger hit.
@RoyalewithCheese-bn9cw They are basically the same lyrics. The difference is, Gladys and the Pips' version is uptempo with beautiful backing by the Pips and better instrumentation ,while Cissy's is slower with a soulful tune.
just to let you know......the song was originally written and recorded by Jim Weatherly, entitled "Midnight plane to Houston", released in July of '72.@@bonsuosei2697
You are sososo sososo sososo underrated
Mi viejo Adorado en el año 79 nos montamos en ese tren llenos de Amor,de felicidad de sueños que nos llevará has la eternidad mi ❤❤
Your the best I've always loved that song ❤❤❤❤
Came to this after just watching GK sing this on a recent edition of "The View," as she honored Whoopi Goldberg's birthday. Certainly hasn't lost much; in fact, her delivery may be even more soulful now if not as energetic. Sure loved the Pips...they may've been the best of the "whoo-HOO" backup singers, for ANY singer. Probably one of the templates for backups to come.
what a voice, what a song!! Gladys Knight forever will be one of my favorite all times singer
What a great performance! It’s all played live, every instrument❤❤❤
Oh, to be a Pip! Classic!
Great music
Superb! 😉
Awesome song! I believe there's a Midnight Special Gladys Knight and The Pips performance of "Use My Imagination"(?) If so, I'd love to see it again! Thanks!
Simply wonderful! On of the best! H. Z.
