- Assassin's Creed Syndicate but when I die the video ends... If you've seen one of these videos you likely know the drill by now. I did Assassin's Creed Unity last time so it's only suitable we do Assassin's Creed Syndicate and I actually had a lot of fun!

idk about everyone else but Evie and Jacob feel like actual siblings, the banter, the use of full names to make a point, the "you annoy me but we ride or die" attitude
Yeah I actually kinda like them, I liked them more than Arno. The only thing that gets annoying is when they keep calling each other by their first and last name, like nobody in real life mentions their sibling by their full name.
Might interest you to know Jacob and evie are based on a victorian occult version of the Irish mythological characters Lugh, and Morrigan. In victorian occult belief, the two are considered a "yin and yang" that are required to keep eachother in check, and gain balance. In the games original planned story, evie was actually going to be the games main villain. As Morrigan in Irish and victorian mythological belief, would turn on her "champion" and try to kill them, after the success of whatever endeavour was in motion. In the case of syndicate, evie wanted Jacob to get her the shroud, and remove templars controlling the country. This also adds up because Morrigan would hate the industrial world, and would seek a return yo the natural way of things. In the end many of evies traits as a villain were given to maxwell roth. Including the scar and grey hair, which were features of early evie frye designs. Now as for Jacob frye, he is very similar to shay... They share the same face and scars aswell. Even similar outfits of choice. Now the victorian belief for "the horned god, and the mother" otherwise known as "lugh and Morrigan" or "the sage and goddess of the moon." You see, regardless of there many names, or perhaps they have many names because of what I'm about to tell you, but it was thought that these 2 mythological beings walked among the people of industrial London, and that they would die and then awaken again, over and over. Always struggling to maintain balance. This idea is also what the game "vampyr" is based on. Its literally based on the same things syndicate is, yet they're so different. Which I find funny. But regardless, shay and Jacob share the same look, and very similar personality, and both struggle over balance. The mythology lines up, as dose the victorian London setting. And the victorian belief of the "horned god" was that he was missing his memory... it seems all to likely that at the very least during development, Jacob and shay are one in the same. A sage hidden within the mess of lost development ideas, or perhaps just a secret for people who know alot about victorian occult. Who knows.

I honestly love Jacob as a character, sure some of his quips are a bit off, but for the most part to me he gives me the Peter Parker vibe and I like it
Here in the UK "Lost your bottle" means you've lost your nerve, shat yourself out of fear so didn't do something etc. We also say "bottled it" or "bottled out" which basically means they were too scared to do somerthing and lost their nerve.
So you might say "we were going to go on the rollercoastef but we bottled it", "we bottled out of getting on the rollercoaster" or "we went to get on the rollercoaster but lost our bottle".
I love this game the sibling banter is soo relatable
Reduce the british humor and we might give it a 4 out of 5 phantom blades

Edit: I think the fact that we’re triplets also makes us appreciate the twin’s banter a lot more than others. We do really talk that way to each other.

@MasterAssassin I was a triplet, tho these days it's just 2 of us. And me and my brother who's still around have many traits in common with the frye twins. For example, I like going out, having a drink, I'm gay/bisexual, and I've often been misunderstood or made choices a little to quickly leading to interesting results.😂 my brother is very careful, he values intelligence over all, and he hated being social. We played syndicate together, where I would play Jacobs memories, and my bro played evies. At the time I hadn't come out as gay/bisexual. But playing Jacobs story was really strange, because I knew he was gay/bisexual near the end of the games story, and I felt like I couldn't tell my bro, and my bro was so unaware that Jacob wasn't straight, but he was joking that he looked gay, and then the entire experience just became so awkward it was actually hilarious.😂😂 I didn't enjoy the game as much, first time as a result. But playing it again, I fell in love with alot of the game. *not it's dlc tho. (Sorry for the essay, just thought it was a funny story.)

“Big exposition dump to start the game” I had the same reaction. As soon as I finished that cutscene and the intro for the twins, I knew this was gonna be like a Disney film.
I actually liked the Jack the Ripper dlc because it was a nice change of tone for the game. Taking place in a much darker setting and time
Only the jack the ripper dlc was nonsense that made no sense and was written by a 10 year old. "Jack the lad." Really? And whats this about needing evie to help. Shes in india. Why not call jacobs own son or literally anyone else who is actually close enough to help... the fear system wasn't good, it was a way to cheat your eay to victory in any situation. No new weapons or map! I mean we got dead kings for free, but paid for that dumpster fire jack the ripper.
@@chrismoore5333 you can have your opinion and I respect that, however you missed something at the end. The reason that the dead kings dlc was free (alongside the season pass), was because of the backlash Ubisoft was facing because of so many bugs in unity, and the controversy surrounding watchdogs (another game they made). You can’t argue about dead kings being free and the Jack the Ripper dlc not being free. It was because Ubisoft faced a TON of backlash due to unity and watchdogs, syndicate didn’t face this problem

Freedom cry was far better quality for your money, offering a story that made sense and new gameplay features and new map... Jack the ripper is only "liked" because you play as a woman. The double standards in gaming is killing gaming. Tho I take your point.

Although I respect your opinion, you can’t generalize an entire group of people who like a dlc and say that they all only liked it because you played as a woman. That’s like saying they only liked base syndicate and chronicles China for playing as a woman
@A boy with a blade oh come on. Evie lacks character, development, depth, or any interesting traits at all, beyond being Jacobs sister. Jack the ripper was made a playable character, which is revolting. The entire mystery didn't make sense, and we skipped almost all of the autumn of terror, because Jacob was there for 4 of the 5 murders, and the dlc was anti Jacob for some reason. As for the animus, why give us only evies memories? Jacob knows who jack is and was there the entire time, and was there at the end. For that matter, how did we even get Jack's memories!? The entire dlc is absolute dribble.

It would help if people even understood the game or its protagonist jacob. But like AC3 and connor, syndicate and jacob are misunderstood and misrepresented all the time. It's sad.
Yeah I really like this game, it's my third favorite after Ezio's games (they're three seperate games but I always just count them as one) and AC3, Syndicate is highly underrated and hopefully since people are starting to like Unity they'll give Syndicate another chance and like it.
@Vengeance yh your right there. And many of us count the ezio games as one. Just more easy to look at the franchise as a whole that way I think. I do hope people go into syndicate without reading what online critics say to be honest. Because most critics online don't understand these games or characters at all, and they have an agenda to push. This normally leads people to think evie is little miss perfect, which isn't the case. She just tries to mimic her father. And bless her, she'd have been a better character if she didn't. But I still think she's better then some Mary sue, which is how she is portrayed often online. As for Jacob, he is far from the joker people say he is. But to get into all that, I'd be here all day. It's Connor all over again. But yeah, I hope people do give syndicate another chance. It is as good as unity atleast. Even tho the story is worse told.
@@chrismoore5333 That's the thing. Ubisoft has less than quality story writers but their scriptwriters are pretty good and most voice actors are great.

@@eagleye4041 From what I've seen the physics with the clothes are extremely buggy and don't flow like they should.
The main reason why i love Jacob is the same reason why i love Edward and Ezio. This three would get along just fine lol.

@@Tyleya I liked it too, the gang takeovers was so fun and it is so satisfying when you kill the gang leader when they first jump you before you initiate the gang fight. Really wish you can do that for all of them. A couple of them you cant...

The fact that the dialogue annoys you is perfect and honestly, I rank this game lower on my list of ac games. But the relationship is perfect. I talk like that to my sister all the time. Everything it completely accurate to how siblings act. No matter how old you are but being 20 just makes it more potent

Maybe it's a british thing, I was born in the south east of england in hastings, with heritage from london, I was stoked about syndicate and found the banter and language the fry twins use delightful. also using peoples full name is a very england thing, i do it to my partner everytime she does something wrong, so about 5 times a week.
The fact that you CAN switch from Top Hat to Hood is what makes this feel like an AC game

This was my Second AC game, after AC1 and is one of my Favorites, along with Rogue and Unity.
I agree that ac syndicate is a really gods game in my opinion, however like you said there are certain aspects that make the game annoying to play with.

In some outfits you always have a hood, not a hat and hood, like the creatures rags. That outfit has only a hood, unless I’m remembering wrongly

I actually loved just about everything from this game
When it came out i didn't care for this game I was kinda burned out on AC at that point. Playing it last year i really enjoyed the gameplay, since AC 2 I wanted industrial London and I revelled in the setting here, really enjoyed the characters and yea the story was lacking, but after finishing the game i just wanted and wished they had explored Jacob and Evies journeys further, imagine if this game came out now.
I like Jacobs' quips, I think it's something different, brought a smile to my face and I liked the chemistry between the twins and the twins with other characters as well. Also, come on it's not as bad as Forspoken girl :D

9:43-10:30 i couldnt stopped laughing. i love jacob but please dont stop being mean to him its too hilarious. The zoom in to his goofy smile when he made an "unexpected stop" plus the laugh track made me laugh so hard

This is my favorite AC due to its setting, but yet I also agree that the characterization and story are at the very bottom tier of AC. If only the story is decent enough, this could be the Black Flag 2, which is the game that brings something different AC franchise

The phantom blade is a french brotherhood design only so it wouldnt make sense to have it in the english brotherhood

I really loved playing as Evie.
I loved playing as Jacob. But as usual, evie being a female character meant that the second year of the games content was painfully bias to her. Not to mention Jacob is the series only canon gay/bisexual male protagonist. But evie obviously being one of many women protagonists, is the priority for "representation" apparently... I do feel slightly bitter that my own demographic mean so little to the preaching hypocrites at ubisoft. They think to little of men. (I know the base game was bias to Jacob, but honestly she was playable in 90% of the game, even when it didn't make sense or contradicted the story. Jacob didn't even get 1 level in the dlc. Tho the dlc did suck regardless. And also the base game was written for Jacob, and evie was a bad guy originally. She used to have grey hair, a scared face, and a silver mask. Her traits were later given to maxwell roth.)

@Desmond Miles I don't like the idea of limiting individual character story and progression, and limiting their individual relationships and plot points, because 2 characters now have to share one single space. Even sharing as much as the twins already do hurt the game. Jacob was still better than the far more boring evie, but he was robbed of various things from his planned story. The lead writer even revealed that the "fixing mistakes" levels were made for Jacob, before they were given to evie. Narrative wise, I just don't love the idea for syndicate becoming even more limited than it already is. Perhaps I'm wrong, and I simply haven't seen the ways around that tho.

the sad thing about the game is the atmosphere and setting is incredible. Austin Wintory’s score might be one of the most unique in the series, however the writing team clearly didn’t understand the assignment about the tone. It’s too bad its potential was only fulfilled in the JtR DLC; I say this as someone who literally did every single minute thing this game had to offer. There were also so many systems which I simply do not understand why there were omitted. For example, yes, build a gang as smokescreen for I dunno, rebuilding the Assassin order???
It’s also so strange to me they didn’t give Jacob: Arno’s garb or Ezio’s Revelations robes in this game…they would have fit in much better than the two other legacy outfits.

This game nailed the atmosphere and opportunities on the stealth sequences relative to Unity, imo.
The world traversal is significantly worse, though, and let's not even mention the story...or why the twin with the most brawling skills gets all but one of the assassination missions...or why they decreased the number of tools you can have equipped at the same time, that was a great QOL change in Unity.
You should do this with ac3

Syndicate has probably the strongest but worst looking eagle vision. Combination of unity and black flag's eagle vision that just makes it really easy to keep track of all the enemies in the area. Great for new players, but I don't like that its just solid color silhouettes.

Unfortunately we usually never get repeat settings and since the movie took place in Spain, we might never get a game set in Spain. Wasted opportunity

Tbf, this game was 2 of the old AC that bring some changes to its gameplay other than Black Flag with its gangster, carriages mechanism and so on
@Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa well they are gangster not the assassins, so ofc there are going some limitations to the gameplay. Though the advantage is they always present around the map and could be called anytime player want to

I hate the cane swords and any weapon in general in this game as well tbh. My entire playthrough I used fists. I forget if evie can use fist or not, but I think I used whatever her base weapon was.
