Had my Strat for 45 years, still love it although it might be heading to Agrajag for a fret job fairly soon! Those classic vibes are great, I just acquired a CV 60's Jazz Bass in Daphne Blue this week, it's my first bass and I needed one for recording at home. Can't put it down!
Richard Thompson, folk rock god, has a 59 strat with one modification, he's removed the volume knob so he doesn't knock it accidently. if your palm muting, it's really easy to knock it.
Hi John! I have a brown sunburst Classic Vibe 50s Strat, an older one which was said to have the Tonerider Surfari pickup set. I gave the glossy neck a bit of a rub down and looks and feels even better. No tone for the back pickup but may get the mod done at some point. I love the sound of it. My guitar journey has been the opposite to you. I started off with humbucker equipped guitars, mainly ES335 copies and I eventually worked out I prefer single coils. So I now have my Baja Tele, Squire Strat and a few Harley Benton offsets. Yes I do find I knock the Strat's volume control, mainly when I'm playing and lounging on the sofa at the same time. So maybe playing position has something to do with it. I think the thing I've noticed is that affordable humbucker equipped guitars tend to sound worse than their single coil counterparts and you need a guitar like yours, with the upgraded Burstbuckers, to get a better humbucking sound. Perhaps your views on mini-humbuckers would be interesting. You did like that Harley Benton TE90 you had a while back. (I have one of those too.) 🎸🎸
John. Interesting to hear that you've only recently heard the criticism about the volume knob placement. I thought it was just me being out of touch with guitar culture, but maybe it really is a recent criticism.
Fun is what it’s all about John 👍🏻 glad that you’re enjoying the new Strat. I own a S7 and love it 👍🏻 Along with a few others 😎unfortunately , I have the same problem with the volume control 🙈🙄
I bought a squire h s s Stratocaster blue in color at a pawn shop for 89 dollars made in Korea very good condition three years ago checked the serial number made in 1998 love it but I am a Les Paul man have four happy holidays to you and family
I can't say no to Strats! ❤️🔥🕊️🤘🏻 (As much as I have a very pointy Jackson JS Dinky with 24 frets, hardtail, and humbuckers out on the stand at the moment...!)
Bought mine last week. 1st impressions are great for the dough. At my man's place being pimped and set up as I type. I'll send the pic into Readers wives when it's back home.
i had the jap 57 squire in 1981,brilliant.had 4 american strats since,one a deluxe,all rubbish,got a cv 60's now,again brilliant,although i've put 2 humbuckers in bridge and neck position with a texas special in the middle,love it.
Not surprised you are done with the Strat, but it was a lot of that you revisited it for a few videos. I love Strat tones (depending on the pups), just not a fan of playing one. Only one I owned was a Japanese Squier in the 1990s that went to my daughter for a decade of hard use till she went over to keyboards exclusively. My only compromise now for those Strat tones is my Lead II and it's smaller size and two pups are enough to scratch the itch.
You can use styrofoam cut to the dimensions of the under side of the volume knob placed inside then put back on the pot. Makes it much harder to knock while playing.
The Fender Player Lead II is on clearance around dealers now, slightly smaller than Strat, has two alnico 5 strat single coils and string through/hard tail bridge. I have this Lead II, kind of a Tele/Strat hybrid and two pups is fine, though I put a Twangbanger in the bridge for a little more Tele oomph. There's also a Lead III has two alnico 2 humbuckers.
Already got that sound on at least 3 other guitars so I probably can't be bothered to do it to this one, which I don't plan on playing on a daily basis.
Hi John, sorry to inform you, but the whole Strat fascination has finally worn off for me, and I`ve switched to Tele`s instead, can`t explain why, I just happen to prefer the shape & feel of a Tele, far more than most Strat`s. 😎🎸
Your demonstrations on the Strat have been awesome 👍
I have the same guitar in white blonde and I absolutely love it John, I love your playing and your videos.❤️🎸.
When a Strat fills the bill, there is always a distinctive sound to it.And, yes, FUN is the name of the game!
I go though Strat phases, currently still enjoying my G&L Legacy...kind of a Strat
Have to admit there's something about a red Strat!
Great noodling there John, loved it!

I put a fretless neck on my Daphne Blue on my channel. Lovely bass.

Hoping to get a guitar with a mini humbucker sometime soon 👍

I just jammed a piece of cardboard under the knob, sorted!!!

Thanks mate. Same to you 👍
I'm not a strat guy, in the slightest, but I would really like a top end Pacifica.
Good enough for *Buddy Holly!* . . . . .good enough for me 🤗

And on a less muso strat note,I also love Abba. Would definitely buy Waterloo as a single, awesome songwriting.
Ginger would be a good name for a red strat!

On my S-style guitar, I live in positions 3,4 & 5 usually.
I just bought a player 2 HSS from musicians friend really for the channel I really always want 3 single coils on starts but it was a great deal
Nice one mate 👍

Good tip 👍
Twin or single pickups is my preference John, I have owned in the past two Mexican Strats, fine guitars, just didn’t work for me..

Have you considered doing the mod that gives you neck and bridge together. Its an extra tone to play with.
Already got that sound on at least 3 other guitars so I probably can't be bothered to do it to this one, which I don't plan on playing on a daily basis.
Probably more comfortable on a strap, stood up..
