As life goes on, we adapt. I've had to adapt since birth being a lefty in a righty-oriented world. I can hear a couple small differences in your playing, but you've adapted super well and still sounds awesome! You know what? You should reward yourself for an almost full recovery with a new guitar!! That's the ticket!
Honestly,John, your recovery has been an inspiration. I’m in a sling following an operation on my elbow and I’m looking at Being out of action for three months.
I think what you have done is truly amazing and a testament to your strength of character , so many would have given up. I'm very glad you didn't give up as I really enjoy your videos and lean a lot from them.
I fractured my fretting hands wrist 6 months ago and am told it will take a year to fully recover….On the positive side I tuned my Brad Paisley signature Tele down to Eb for ease of playing and accidentally found it’s sweet spot. Sounds sweet as honey in Eb.
You have heard "Time heals all wounds?" Its true John, we also take longer to heal and we get older, (I'm about 10 years older than you so trust me on this) patience and dont push, and it will come back to full function. Some day it will just be there again without you realising. In the meantime, love the channel, keep up the good work.
The reality from this side of the screen is you never seemed to "skip a beat" and the enjoyable guitar wisdom you dispense continued uninterrupted. So from the consumer's point of view, and the magic of video, there was hardly a noticeable bump in the road. Self-doubt, or worry when the core of your existence is threatened is understandable, but you did an admirable job "improvising". So it is great that you have put it behind you and things seem back to a joyful normal now. Congratulations on overcoming adversity. Keep on keeping on.
Glad all is well and you had a good recovery and a good attitude about it. I've owned Dog's and they always add a little spice to life, whether you want it or not.. 💩
Well done on getting back to where you want to be. I have not played in almost a year as chronic arthritis in my hands leave me in too much pain after playing for even a short time. I am told some injections will help but the waiting list is very lengthy and as I can still walk I'm not a priority. Ah well such is life.
Very glad you've adapted your fret hand skills so well, you hardly blinked, John. I do miss seeing a 'bolt' sticking out of your finger though, what rock guitarist could top that as an icon?
Amazing journey Mate! Inspirational how you dealt with this mentally and physically. Quite amazed how much it's healed too, glad to hear that finger is not completely useless and seems to be more functional than the previous update vid (or maybe it was a livestream). Love to see these comments from people who believe you'll get full functionality back one day - I really hope that's true, but either way it looks like you DGAF 💪😎 - Absolute legend. Also thanks for the "gore" warning - that was much appreciated 🙏
Hi John, the main thing is that it doesn't hurt anymore so that for you playing guitar is (nearly) as much fun as it was before... I suffered from a malignant melanoma in my left arm this summer, which caused a big surgery including skin transplantation... it was a hard time really, but now it is getting better ... so on my "anniversary" in July 2025 there will be good news I hope... From Germany with best regards...
I hadn't watched your channel for some time, and so was completely unaware of the accident. However, I'm delighted that you are on the mend and indeed back with the usual gusto not to mention the mancunion charm that attracted me to this channel. Best wishes
Personally, I reckon the things that this country should be most proud of are... The West Africa Squadron (Google it if you're unfamiliar) and... Operation Neptune. Health care free at the point of use is pretty much ubiquitous across most developed nations & it's curious that no other country copies our centralised state bureaucratic model for delivery of such care. Myself, I have mixed feelings on the NHS as it is the organisation that cured my prostate cancer but also killed my mother . She went into hospital with a skin disease which required grafts & came out in an undertaker's van a month later thanks to MRSA which led to sepsis. Basic hygiene standards would have saved her. Lack of resources are often quoted as the problem, but we pay more per capita than other comparable G7 countries for worse outcomes.
I admire your stoicism and determination
Very pleased for you, and impressed (inspired) with your ‘never say die’ attitude.

More power to you John! Ive dropped to 9s due to arthritis and numbness (and age) - its nice to be able to play comfortably!

Stick with it mate 👍
You are remarkable and a total legend 👍🙏🏽❤️

What a journey for you John, glad you came out the other side relatively unscathed !! 👍🎸😄

Human determination wins! Great recovery story.
True Teesside grit you have

Your determination has paid off John. My wife's a Yorkshire 'lass' and you're no wimps are you?
Aye, Yorkshire breeds are a tough lot 👍
Impressive resolve. Proud of you big man!
Cheers mate 👍

That sucks, mate. Best of luck to you & hope you're able to rock again soon 👍

Must have been worrying. Well done for persistence!! Glad it has improved so much!

Mancunian? Wrong side of the pennines, mate. But cheers anyway 👍
Good man John.
John, I don’t think that anyone watching your channel for the first time, would notice, Django made a statement didn’t he?
Great it’s fixed as well as it has . Is that your ring finger and if so were you wearing one ? 😳
I used to wear my wedding ring on that finger until I got too fat for it & replaced it with a tattoo of the wife's name on my left shoulder.
The NHS is the thing this country has to be most proud about. Do not let it fall into the hands of American private equity.
