    Excellent collaboration. I enjoy how both of your channels offer sensible, practical advice in a down to earth style. Keep up the good work.

    Consistency, that's true, I should have thought of that when I was thinking what the next tip would be.

    Kata & forms are great, but..I think any Martial Art, Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo should NEVER loose focus that it's primary goal is fighting & self defense. If not it's just morphed into interesting Asian dancing. Some of the things common in traditional martial arts like immediate stopping after scoring a point, lack of continuity & follow through after striking, to the ineffectiveness of how sidekicks are thrown in traditional styles, to not practicing in such ways that emulate real life self defense conditions. Like having someone do a take down on you full speed while sparring. Or occasionally practicing in street clothes. If not you're a drifting farther and farther from the martial in martial in martial arts & becoming just an art. As Musashi says "you can only fight the way you have trained".

      I heavily agree!

      With all due respect, Sir, I do not agree. There is evolution in every discipline, sport and art. Why is it bad to elevate a fighting or boxing style into an art form? Why always go back to the roots etc. That's like saying Michelangelo should go back to cave painting. There is a strive for perfection in Kata that is more then just the perfection of defending oneself optimally. If these guys have trained all their lives for Kata, it is not merely to defend themselves. It is more then that, it is a strive for the perfection of movement itself and the mastery of one's own body. Everybody training Karate also does it for the esthetics of it, otherwise, everybody would just do MMA...

      @@jeromebosch4057 Are you practicing an art? Or is combat effectiveness still the primary goal? If its an art, why shouldn't it just be like ballot & stop the pretence it has anything to do with fighting. If you lose sight of the primary goal drop the "martial" in martial art. Karateka & Taekwondo have a habit of getting KO by punch against martial arts where they practice those in sparring, and why is that? It's not because in theory & Kata, individual techniques they don't practice those because they do. But unless you do it in sparring it's like trying to teach yourself to drive by playing grand theft auto.

    • @jeromebosch4057
      @jeromebosch4057 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonnystaton That's pretty much exactly my point: Stop the pretence that it is 'only' fighting and admit that it is 'also' art. I would still call it 'martial' art, because it is something martial upgraded into art in the same way primitive sounds have been upgraded into musical art. I mean you are still mimicking fighting moves even though the purpose has become esthetic. And I totally agree that it is largely ineffective in a hexagon, but does it have to be?

    • @sonnystaton

      @@jeromebosch4057 If the primary focus isn't effective combat, then your kata, form, pinyon is just some fascinating Asian dancing. That's not pretence. The "Art" is not in the Kata, forms or pinyon but in the relentless yet unattainable pursuit of perfection. But without the combat intent of the movements, they are just empty motions like dance. If you are overly enamored by the beauty of Kata's forms & pinyons you lose their purpose & you're just dancing.
