This was only William Petersen's 2nd film and previously he had only a bit part in the film Thief. Willem Dafoe too had only a few small, usually uncredited, parts before this, and the same for John Turturro. All 3 of these actors deliver incredibly strong memorable performances here.
Dafoe was in Walter Hill’s Streets of Fire as the main antagonist, Raven Shaddock - the pack leader of the Bombers Biker Gang, before this. He was great there too, naturally. Petersen’s part is so small in Thief you could miss him until someone told you he was in there (Caan shoved him and says “Outta the way, Flash!” Before dragging Tuesday Weld out of the bar he was late to). So we can certainly be confident in saying TLADILA being his first main role. All three of the movies I mentioned are excellent, but I’m sure that’s news to few of you.
80's best creativity, best, movies, best music (alt rock, new wave, goth, hair bands, hard rock, r&b, rap, pop) nothing can ever top this era! i miss it all!
Very diverse and you knew where people stood. No fake pc culture. Beat boxin break dancing to thrash metal and head banging to new wave, real punk and alt. Like you said 80’s had it all
Man,what an amazing film in ALL aspects! The writing, direction, acting and especially the music.Every time i hear one of the INCREDIBLE songs from this films sound track,it brings a smile on my face.
The camera angles and setup in this movie is amazing, especially the carchase scene where you see chance's and the fed's moving towards the same crossing. And the sideways close shot on the highway when traffic in opposite direction passes between the car and camera. all good perfect timing
Honestly, one of only a handful of movies that left a lasting impression on me because of the ending. It just completely surprised me when I saw this in the theater at 15 years old.
If no one's seen this movie, they're really missing a classic, a very underrated and probably forgotten movie. The great car chase is not drug dealers chasing them, but actually Feds.
That's cause it was a real car chase no stunt drivers they just went on the freeway without getting permission from California to do this everything that happens all the cars and the people running around are real people they got the shit sued out of them for it
I lived in Los Angeles during this time. All those scenes were part of my daily life and there was a sense of satisfaction and pride that my city was part of the landscape for such a great film.
That was an awesome audio edit between the ending and the beginning of the song. Well done. Flawless and appreciated. Gave me shivers. Nice job on the entire video! :)
1985 , good times then and had a great job and healthcare benifits cost me like $8 a week and covered everything. I loved this film and had the VHS tape and 12 years ago bought the DVD .
I remember this movie back in the 1980's. I had a 77 Chevy Impala like the one they were driving. 305 or 350 engine. I miss the cars from the 70's with chrome bumpers and trim. The cars today are plastic shit. I miss the old days. You did a great job on this video. Thank you for the memories.
One of my favorite movies, and Willem Dafoe plays such a great bad guy in Rick Masters! Willem Dafoe is such an awesome actor, I've never seen him not deliver! He would make an awesome Joker in Batman!
Awesome soundtrack and best car chase.....similar to Miami Vice, not as slick, more real, on TV here in US Nov17 th 2012, Miss the 80's music and movies made without blue screens....Great job on this!.
Not sure how I missed this movie in the theaters. In 1985 I saw, A view to a Kill, Back to the Future, Rambo 2 and Just one of the Guys and Police Academy 2. The car chase alone would have been worth it. I would see 2 Willem Dafoe movies in 1988, Last Temptation of Christ and Mississippi Burning but I missed Off Limits which was also a good movie . My problem is I think too much about the 80s.
This track and movie giving me so many happines right now ... I realy appreciate those times, this is time when I was kid and my parents giving to my everything what was the best 💪🥰🥲
COME LIVE AND DIE IN LA for a little while. One of the best Chase Scenes I've ever seen is in this movie. Looking for something edgy and fun to watch? One could pick a far worse movie. I like Wang Chung, as well. Both movie and band are underrated.
@@vfintd386 ….I believe Ryan is referencing the fact that To Live and Die in LA isn't available anywhere online for streaming, though it sure as hell should be. Cheers!
@@nonnobissolum I watched it so many times on HBO and recorded it on VHS. Sadly, we only had so many cassettes and recorded over it at some point...probably with Miami Vice or Predator.
... and IMHO, the car chase from the Movie: " French Connection" , which is also directed by Billy Friedkin, who've established some new foundations / rules in thriller-action movie genre :))) #MovieFreak
I couldn't agree more with the central theme in this movie: The police are as much a bunch of criminals as the criminals they are fighting, AND THEY ARE.
+Wes Bervig Read an article-maybe it was Wikipedia-apparently Friedkin thought both the criminals and the law enforcement officers had to have something akin to a death wish to pursue their respective careers.
when seen this move and I had the cassette and I was only 18 yrs old its pretty spooky but now I am 56 I want to join the law school because I was a cna a public servant😮😮😮😮

less easy to trace and realize counterfeits are being run...try going into a store and paying with 5 exactly the same 20s...your counterfeiting career would be very short.

Great actor
Lest we forget Jane Lieves(Daphne, from Frazier).
Totally agree 100%

Yeah. Comparing to that generation nowadays ppl are more and more becoming kund of a biomaterial managed via internet and media.
yes i also think that
80's were great , i'll stick more to the 70's but what the hell 70's, 80's and 90's were top notch for different reasons
Very diverse and you knew where people stood. No fake pc culture. Beat boxin break dancing to thrash metal and head banging to new wave, real punk and alt. Like you said 80’s had it all

Classic!! They just can’t do this anymore!!! Pure film , no cgi , no agenda, just entertainment!! 💪🔥
One of the most underrated films ever made. I rated the car chase scene in the top ten ever. Never has received it props?
Está considerada como una de las mejores persecuciones en la historia del cine...
William Friedkin is just a genius.
as a teen I went to the movies seven times to see this. I still love the film in my top 5 forever.
Love how at the end she drives off with Daphne from Frasier!!!
If no one's seen this movie, they're really missing a classic, a very underrated and probably forgotten movie. The great car chase is not drug dealers chasing them, but actually Feds.
This movie was made by the same guy that made the French Connection it's one of the greatest movies around
And the Exorcist
The French Connection! One of my favourites!👍 You don't pick your feet in Poughkeepsie that's for sure!?
Why you chasing me? Why you running? Because you're chasing me!
For a very long time, had been known as having the best vehicle chase/stunt scenes ever filmed.
That's cause it was a real car chase no stunt drivers they just went on the freeway without getting permission from California to do this everything that happens all the cars and the people running around are real people they got the shit sued out of them for it
I totally agree ... no computer generated crap
Good old chevy vs ford

The Shots of The Harbor , DTLA , San Pedro are the best great Movie great film score.
Landmark film. Simply brilliant from, music, to sound, to editing and direction.
There is nothing like this classic film.
Not having this movie in you DVD collection is a crime.
Mine for 12 years
@GhostOfBugsy The male lead is William Peterson. If you ever watch CSI he was the lead on that show as Grissom.
But he was a badass in this flick.
Primo Mix. Very good job Bro!!!
Forever Underrated.
My favorite movie of all the 1980s.
un chef d'oeuvre à revoir en boucle

1985, doesn't seem that long ago... 33 years later... But still great movie making.
We were quite young back then.
It's 2019 and if you haven't watched this jewel, you need to...
5:28: Seen this stunt countless times now and STILL gives me the willies. Whatever those drivers got paid - the car & the train - wasn't enough.
beautiful music, really 80's
Needs to be on Netflix or something!
THIS is the best car chase scene ever. Going the wrong way on the 710 freeway!

At least you put Ruthie in at the end. She’s part of what makes his movie great.

"Your not my partner, Your not even my fucking friend. your not shit in these streets if it wasn't for me"

nonplayerzealot4 "Kiss my ass!" as he walks out the door. 😂
true, but he was a arrogant, cocky risk taker and paid the ultimate price.
chevy impalla. ck spell. a well designed and built car. the ones out there now, today? are fast and handle great. wow.
I love the city of L.A., mostly because of movies like this.
This movie is one of myriad number of examples of the 1980's having some of the slickest looking sunglasses.
Well done video...

Robby Muller is a genius.
One of THE BEST films of the entire 80’s decade , and possibly of all time.
if i hear 5 more seconds of that soundtrack.. -im gonna hurl some Wang Chung!
Amazing as this was pre-CGI. Second best car chase. Only Bullet is better.
