    Rowan is such a cool build. Did not expect a win after that elfball turn went wild. Do love how all the cards that are 'balanced' with life loss are combo pieces in rowan

    Not that it mattered, but I don't think Calix can target himself with his constellation trigger while enchanted with spirit mantle

    Ethan should probably consider running Wren's Run Packmaster if the goal is infinite mana elfball since with mana you can instant speed create a token, with an essence warden it's instant speed infinite life

    Just checking, Rowan wasn't reducing the cost of artifacts? I didn't track mana on the big turn. Additionally Marwyn could have drawn a lot more cards and put Staff of Domination into play or used Wellwisher, given haste by Finale to gain alot a life, but this would have meant foregoing the "cool" Kindered Summons play.

    • @getsaucysubjectsk7444
      @getsaucysubjectsk7444 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rowan only reduces red and/or black spells to avoid that free artifact shenanigans

    • @mikestephens267
      @mikestephens267 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@getsaucysubjectsk7444, the written word can be difficult to interpret, I simply meant, that it wasn't clear that Rowan was being played correctly, as a few artifacts were being cast and I didn't track all the mana involved. When something like Painter's Servant gets involved then you get cost reductions on your artifacts.

      Apex of Power was played with 2 floating colorless and 1 floating black left over from tapping Ancient Tomb, Firemind's Vessel, and 2 red producing lands.
      He gets 10 mana of one color when playing it from hand and chose black, bringing him to 2 floating colorless and 11 floating black.
      He played Dismember and Lotus Petal for free then The Golden Throne for 4, using 2 colorless and 2 black.
      He then used Lotus Petal for 1 red and played Blood for the Blood God!, leaving him with 7 floating black.
      He used 3 to play Profane Transfusion and sacrificed the token it makes to The Golden Throne to get 3 black back, leaving him at 7 floating black again.
      He plays The One Ring for 4, bringing him to 3 floating black, plays Black Market Connections for 1 black, then plays Swiftfoot Boots for 2, bringing him to 0 leftover mana. He then ends the turn.

    isn't protection from creature on esper sentinel make the trample damage null?

    • @getsaucysubjectsk7444
      @getsaucysubjectsk7444 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, trample only looks at how much you need to put on a creature for it to die normally. If you had deathtouch and trample but the blocker had indestructible/protection you only need 1 point of damage and the rest goes over.
      It's an interesting interaction but I built a whole Fynn deck based around pumping up the creatures and giving trample so they'd always connect

      I mean, elves were doing things elves usually do when nobody is interacting with their board. On the other hand, 7 mana on t2 for a big mana deck is absurd and it is a win in like 90% of the time.

    I know it doesn't matter, but Ethan wouldn't of been able to regenerate the elf and kill Seth, as regenerating a creature removes it from combat :P

    • @chall3ng33v3rything
      @chall3ng33v3rything ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless baleful strix has first strike combat damage had already been done. Removing something from combat doesn’t make its damage non existent

    • @TheBu213
      @TheBu213 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chall3ng33v3rything Yeah that's what I'm saying, either it dies because damage doesn't use the stack and neither does death touch, so if they deal their damage at the same time, there is nothing to respond to for regenerate activation
      meaning the elf would die as state based actions are checked, basically there is no window of time frame that it could of both dealt damage, and survived the deathtouch :P

    • @chall3ng33v3rything
      @chall3ng33v3rything ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBu213 okay so doing some research it seems like they were just short cutting an interaction which is super common in commander games and also probably is so minor it didn’t need to be stated. Blockers are declared, then before before moving to damage regeneration is applied to the elf. Regeneration activates on the effect that would cause it to do so. Therefore after they both deal damage to one another. Thus the elf is removed from combat damage after they have both dealt damage saving the elf and removing the player from the game.

    • @TheBu213
      @TheBu213 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chall3ng33v3rything Aye did some reading up on it, and yeah I see your point, as it's replacing the next time it dies, but by then the damage is dealt.
      I always had it in my head that the removal from combat was part of the activation not the resolve 👍

    how did the rowan player deal 14 damage to themself? and doesn't exchanging life make rowan tap for zero?

    • @matthewcapaldi
      @matthewcapaldi ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Gaining life doesn't offset the amount of life lost. It isn't about the overall change, Rowan just tracks life lost. He took 3 from Crypt + 2 from The One Ring + 6 from Black Market Connections + 2 from Ancient Tomb + 1 from Sulphurous Springs, = 14 total life lost
