    The Diabadass Tour is a journey across America to highlight the individuals, companies, and organizations that make up the 1 diabetic community. The two adventurers are Cassidy Robinson who is featured in the full-length film "Bike Beyond: the documentary" and Erik Douds who is an endurance athlete and global traveler - both live with type 1 diabetes.

    Hey potential Loopers,
    Since this video's release, you can now use an Omnipod Eros (the one we know and love for the PDM "Brick") to set up Loop. This reduces the giant hurdle of trying to find a compatible pump. Learn more information on LoopDocs.org or www.Diabadass.com
    Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

    Thanks for this info. I'm glad to see PEOPLE taking the next step instead of waiting for the drug companies to say when they think it's time to make these things available. Caution is always the best way, but theres too much waiting for things to happen. I am 65 years old - i hope you don't mind my yammering here - I have been type 1 Diabetic since I was 10. So many things happening in the world right now. The Medtronic, loop:Riley link with the CGM G6 seems mind bogglingingly amazing. I am AMAZED!!! =) THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO.

      Thank you for this comment! My grandfather was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1940 and that lingers on the back of my mind. He tested BG (and sounds like you did too) using a urine stick, and now there are implantable CGMS coming to the market. Could you imagine a phone one day would be taking care of insulin doses for you?

    Omg. How come I haven’t discovered you before. Just seen you on a daily tribe. I’m currently collecting old Medtronics ( I’ve got 2 already ) and I’m creating my own LOOP this summer. I’m so so excited about. I spoke to my endo couple of days ago and he gave me a green light to do it. I was worried about that because here in the U.K. LOOPing is not popular but he new of it 😆😁😀 I will be vlogging my LOOPing too 😆😅😁

      Erik Douds I think so too. OMG thanks so much . Michelle is the best. I’m so honored. I just hope you like my content. I will soon have my endo appointment vlog up and I talk about my loop situation there - it will be my announcement because no one knows I’m doing it 😂😂 how long have you been on LOOP if you don’t mind me asking ?

    Awesome video and information. I’m a dad of a 13 y/o T1D. He’s currently using the OmniPod “which I have no complaints about” but I would like to know how I can get him started on the LOOP system. How do i go about finding him a compatible Medtronic device? Everything else seems straight forward? Your help is greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work!

    • @ErikDouds
      @ErikDouds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loopdocs.org does have a section about this: Finding a compatible Medtronic pump is probably the most difficult part for most new Loopers. Our suggestion:
      Talk to friends in the diabetic community.
      Ask your endocrinologist.
      Ask at a local JDRF chapter meeting if someone has an old backup pump they'd be willing to donate to you.
      Join diabetic supply groups in Facebook; both for-trade and for-sale groups.
      Check Craigslist often and be willing to expand your search area to include larger cities.
      Check out the HelpAround, NextDoor, OfferUp, and/or LetGo apps for pumps.
      Search Medwow for used Medtronic pumps"

    I tried the open aps system in 2015 but found the rig we (my computer programmer dad and I) made was just not suitable. I'm a student and it would lose connection a lot etc.
    Right now I'm on the 640g and due for an update (hopefully to the 670g) come September. I'm looking into 'doing' the Loop system. I've had unbelievable trouble with my Medtronic sensors in the last year and I'm wanting to try the dexcom G5. Butttt it doesn't work with the 640g/670g pumps or suspend on/before low, which is necessary for my hypo unaware status.
    I admit I haven't been a 'perfect' diabetic during my teenage years, but I've been gaining control over my care and I'm going into university and my setup right now is just not good enough for me right now. I feel like it works against me and I'm tired of fighting it 😴.
    Wish me luck w my research into Loop!

    Hi Erik! Great video, recently new to your channel - can you tell me where you got that case for the rileylink? I think it looks great!

    • @ErikDouds
      @ErikDouds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      getrileylink.org is where you order the Riley Link and mine is the default one and then took a sharpie to add my name and number on it. You'll see another case option that has a key change ring on the website - $45 but worth it if it helps you not lose it.

    Hey! I'm a type 1 looking into looping... How would i get medtronic supplies if i went this direction? Like do current infusion sets and supplies work with the older medtronic pumps still?

    • @JayJay-Nifty
      @JayJay-Nifty 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      this

    • @morrisminor72
      @morrisminor72 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the pump, but I believe most of the looping capable pumps use the Paradigm reservoirs and infusion sets. I’ve got an old 754, which I’m planning on using for looping when the RileyLink arrives, and it uses the same reservoirs etc as my current pump (630G I think is the model).

    • @ErikDouds
      @ErikDouds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would get a script for a current pump Medtronic pump model and this works for the older compatible loopable pumps. The difference in reservoir size is displayed in the first number of the model number i.e. '5'22 verse '7'22 would be that the 5 is 200mL where 7 is 300mL.

    • @SweetasSugar42
      @SweetasSugar42 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure sets are compatible with whatever, but reservoir size is different for older pumps. If you go to Loop documentation on GitHub you'll find compatibility info there.

    • @johnmclaughlin7406
      @johnmclaughlin7406 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I recall, the Medtronic/Minimed company changed from a Luerlock connection on the reservoir to their proprietary connector to the infusion set tubing, which has nothing to do with the pump. In other words, the reservoirs fit in the pump and are both driven by the drive piston in the pump in the same way. Medtronic/Minimed changed the infusion tubing connection from Luerlock to their proprietary connector. I have an older Minimed 723 NAB version 2.3B which is compatible with the Riley Link. The model 723 pump use a 300 unit reservoir (MMT332A). I also use a Medtronic Quick-set Paradigm 43” tubing with a 9mm cannula (MMT-396).

    I'm a type 2 diabetic but was told today that my pancreas is barley working. They are getting me started on an insulin pump and omni pod now. Just waiting for the referral to go through so that I can go through the process. Do you know if how this would work for someone who lives in Canada ? The looping I mean.

    • @ErikDouds
      @ErikDouds  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looping can be used around the world. The hardest part is finding the old Medtronic pump so x15, x22, x, 23, or x54. They should be available in Canada or find one online and see if they do international shipping.
