Here in Canada we have a provincial group called BC Diabetes - they’re going to build and assist with looping for me. I start in October with the G6 and the Dash system.
I’ve been using DIY Loop since 2019 with Omnipod and still love it. My endo always asks if I want to switch to a commercial system but I just don’t want to give up Loop because I love using my iPhone and the G7 and getting features faster. I’m also very happy with the new browser build method. It’s so much nicer when traveling.
@@diabe_tech Oh I will definitely be watching. And out of complete curiosity I am building iAPS right now just to check it out. This Github build method makes it really easy.
I was thinking to change my daughter from Loop to iAPS this week. You video just helped decide that I’ll do the change!!! I can’t wait to Monday for the podcast episode.
I am not tech savvy. Does your endo show you how to use IAPS or do you have to learn on your own. I am impressed when people can just make all these things work. I never did the loop because I had no idea how to set it up.
Thank you for all if your content. It gives me a lot of hope for the non surgical future of Diabetes management. One critique is that you seem to talk as if IOS and the apple watch are the only game in town. For someone who is so excited about DIY and open sourced options for diabetes management, you are very quiet on alternatives to Apple for UIs. I understand that Ios is the OS of choice for these new systems, but it would help people, like me, who live in the Android/Watch OS world, if you could either ask on camera, or report back to us, the future of these new products living in our world. For background, I am a 68 yo man who has been type 1 since 01/1881, have been pumping since 2006, am currently using the T-Slim X2 and the Dexcom G6. My X2 warranty expires this month and I am using your channel to help me decide what I will go with next. Finally, I also enter fantom carbs in my day-to-day regime. My last 2 A1Cs were 5.7, so adding those carbs has lowered my A1C perceptive. Thanks again Rick
I also make manual corrections but do not input any phantom carbs. Knowing ones insulin sensitivity, I will just input the number of units of insulin in the units field of the pump.
Thanks for the great comment, Patrick! I agree - I’ll do better to cover Android options as well. I do highlight Android APS (AAPS) in a fair amount of my DIY coverage. Listen to tomorrow’s podcast episode on iAPS (yes, it’s for iPhone BUT the algorithm is the same one as AAPS and possibly other android options). I’m going to plan out some Android DIY content…stay tuned!
Not sure if someone answered this already, but yes I've been able to get CGM readings on my TSlim X2 pump when my phone is away/out of bluetooth range, or has died!
@diabe_tech yeh, Tslim only disconnects when the pump gets too far from your CGM on ur body - Tandem has a very short range. I always look forward to ur podcasts/utube videos!! Great content!
@@melady100do you know if a G6 on your butt and x2 on front waist would have connection issues with each other? I'm curious to know it needs "line of sight" for connection.
@@jonzeeas long as u hav g6 on left butt u just need to wear the T2 on ur left waist/left front pocket (not down in the pocket) -same side of body as the g6. I have not noticed any issues at all with not having line of site. But definitely had distance issues with g6 and T2 on opposite sides of my body. I sleep with my head on my arm that has the g6 and buried under a pillow without any issue of line of sight.
I've been using DIY loop since 2019 also, and my sugars were in very good range. At first, my endo was excited for me and encouraging, but then after 3 years I was told that since it's not FDA approved, she couldn't see me anymore unless I changed and went on an FDA approved system. I switched to Omnipod 5 and my a1cs are in the high 7's. My A1cs were much better with Loop. Does anyone else have similar findings?
Great content im from Guatemala and interested in getting the Diy system. Right now im between 70-85% of the time in range using the vivacheck CGM. Can you give me some pump related advice, here in Guatemala there are no pumps available so im planning on going to the US and buy one!!
Interesting video, thank you. A few questions: 1) Do you think that the open-source Loop will also support the Libre3? 2) What do the actual companies (Dexcom, Omnipod, etc) think about the open source initiatives? Are they supportive or are they opposed?
No word on DIY Loop + Libre 3 support…currently the Libre 3 would require internet to work with DIY systems. I think Omnipod and Dexcom, and others, value the DIY community because that group paves the way for pharma. The DIY space shows what is possible and pushes further faster. Watch my iAPS podcast episode that releases tomorrow. Part of a two patter. Will blow your mind.
I don't endorse the strategy of inputting fake carbs into Loop. Users should emphasize that it's unnecessary and usually indicates weaknesses in personal settings. Encouraging testing and seeking support from the community, such as Looped, Loop and Learn, Open Mics (for Loop and iAPS questions), is preferable. Thanks for promoting community engagement, and I hope you have a smooth experience with iAPS.
it would be awesome if you did a podcast for AAPS users or people who have never looped, and have an Android and want to switch to AAPS. I suggest interviewing someone using AAPS. :)
You say this works with IPhone. Does it work with Android? Does DIY loop dislike Android? With Tandem and the Tslim it shows on the screen on your pump. Your sugar level. I am not sure how it will work with Mobi.
DIY Loop is an iPhone only app, but there are similar platforms, including AAPS (Android APS), which has the same algorithm as iAPS which I'm about to get on myself - listen to Monday's podcast to learn more about the iAPS algorithm - it will blow your mind!!!
i wish i cut have that.. but yes i am in Denmark and here it's so slow... just got G7.. can¨t even get a pump there works whit it. and if i talk whit any hospital staff they know nothing. been like that in my whole diabetes life sens 2009...
In this episode u mention apprehension about Looping but what about those of us who watch who aren’t diabetic but worry about wearing devices; not in a fashion sense but as mentioned b4, the adhesives and what may be in them. I’m guessing these videos are filmed about month before they come out.
@@diabe_tech I know you don’t talk about the adhesives on the devices themselves beside how long they last but I think u should in a future upload. I think people who watch your videos are wondering about that aspect of Type 1 Diabetes.
There are a few people that react to adhesives. I haven't had any problems with adhesives including super glues, epoxy's and wood glues. An implantable like Eversense would be an option. Also the glucose sensing watches but none of the watches at this time seem to be accurate enough for making dosing decisions.
Everything sounds so good but so complicated if you are not great with technology. I know no one that uses either of these technologies and my doctor has not any interest in learning about it. I know I need a better doctor but I have not been successful at finding one that is great at the tech side of diabetes.

It’s up to the user. Doctors won’t really touch this stuff, but they may help refine settings…great support groups online!

Does this system not have a bolus option where you can just enter BG to correct? That’s what I use right now
