Probably why they didn’t want the common people to read their Bibles in the Medieval period. The Bible does not speak well of the wise or the rulers of this world.

Dear Professor Wright; What wonderful insights and a breath of fresh air you are breathing upon the not only Christianity but the whole of the world. It is my heart-felt belief that it was Jesus' highest prayer that we all learn what it means to live "on earth as it is in heaven." Blessings, Rt. Rev. Charles V. Davis, A.T.O.M.

An additional reason why Paul does not specify how people should work out their salvation is this; his audience were expected to have received the Holy Spirit, which would teach them all things. So, by refraining from teaching them exactly what they were to do to work out their salvation, he submits himself and his ministry to the same Holy Spirit working in him.

    • @thirdplace3973
      @thirdplace3973 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Another reason why Paul doesn’t explain it is because the verb in Greek for “work out” is in the middle voice not active. The Christian is to yield themselves to the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit conforming them to the image of Christ. We yield, it’s the Spirit’s work.

I WOULD NEVER THINK OF CALLING JESUS A LIAR. Quran 4:157-158 says that. I would never say Jesus did not die because Jesus said He was yet Muhammad did not believe Jesus. The following 8 POINTS prove the SACRIFICE OF JESUS.
#1 Jesus PREDICTED HIS DEATH. Jesus said: "You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified," Injeel Matthew 26:2.
#2 ANGELS SAID JESUS DIED. WILL you say this angel is a liar too?
"But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified," Injeel Matthew 28:5.
#3 The disciple John saw and wrote about the crucifixtion of Jesus (Injeel John 19:17-26).
#4 THE BOOK OF HEBREWS SAID JESUS DIED! Jesus tasted death for every Christian, (Hebrew 2:9).
Jesus was dead and He is now resurrected ALIVE (Rev 2:8; Hebrews 5:7). The Blood of Jesus was shed (Hebrews 9:12).
      #5 JESUS SAID THIS:
“Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day," Injeel Luke 24:46.
#6 The OT predicts the death of Christ:
      Zechariah 12:10; Isaiah 53; Psalm 22; John 2:19-22).
#7 The WORDS OF JESUS ARE PROTECTED and ETERNAL. NOBODY CAN DISPROVE WHAT JESUS SAID AND PREDICTED ABOUT HIS DEATH:
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away," injeel Matthew 24:35.
#8 The CUP that Jesus feared was a CUP of SUFFERING and not death (Matthew 26:42; see Matthew 26:2 and Matthew 26:54). THERE IS NO CUP of DEATH any where in history. The prayer of Jesus to lessen his suffering proves Jesus was human, and a human sacrifice (Matthew 26:28). Yet Jesus was still God as He said when we see Him we see God in the flesh (Injeel John 14:7-9).
I invite any Muslim to try to refute any of the 8 POINTS ABOVE. If they cannot I invite Muslims and doubters to come to Jesus for their salvation. This is the WILL of God (Injeel John 6:40) and this is the very command of Jesus (Injeel Matthew 11:28-29). Do this before it is too late. Shalom.

Here is what I think St Paul was trying to convey: "the [appearance, life, words, example, and] resurrection of Jesus Christ is from God, not from mankind. It took the "power of God" to manifest a non-temporal, spiritual, deity-like being upon the earth. I think Paul's desire for us to think "Christianly" was very dangerous, for we vary in what we think is Christian Theology is for us, individually. For example, one Christian can use a scripture to promote celibacy as a virtue whereas another Christian can find another scripture in the bible that does not favor celibacy. Thus, this does not promote unity at all. We must find authentic laws about celibacy that are inspired by God we can both agree on. After all, God determines what path is right, not our own theology.

@@magatism The Calvinists are a little wrong with the doctrine of Atonement.
Jesus ’mission was different for Jews and Gentiles.
In the "Old Covenant," the Jews were affected by the law to bless the entire people if they obeyed all that was prescribed by law. There was a curse for infidelity to God's ordinances.
So obedience to the law affected the destiny of the whole nation, with an equal destiny for both good and evil. Therefore, they were subjected to constant wars and were eventually conquered by other Nations.
Israel's infidelity was directed at God. Thus Israel had to atone for infidelity against God.
Calvinists focus their teachings on individuals and thus on the wrong foundations of the doctrine of the remission of the sins of individuals through the Atonement of Jesus. As I said above, it is different from what the Bible teaches.
Jesus therefore saved Israel. This all happened through the rules in the Old Testament.
It must be understood that every matter raised by God Himself develops new legislation for the task of atonement. It includes all the revelations of the prophets.

I don't mean this as any kind of negative comment only a sincere question so I can understand what most theologians are claiming ; are we to regard Paul as infallible ???? Are we to believe Paul spoke to Jesus and that Jesus " dictated to Paul" exactly what he wanted his followers to believe. ??? I am not against that belief but it is a very different belief then one would get reading Acts .
Paul hated the other disciples . Did Jesus tell Paul that ??? That Jesus did not want us to follow the disciples ????? I just want to get it straight so we can even discuss it.

could you pinpoint , where exactly Paul stated : that he hated the Disciples ? .

    • @winstonshipman8734
      @winstonshipman8734 ปีที่แล้ว

‘Hate’ is an awfully strong word, but these two did have a sharp encounter. We see it unfold in Galatians 2:11-19, where Paul rebukes his fellow apostle for caving in to the prejudice of a group who said that people from all ethnic backgrounds had to satisfy the Jewish ritual law before they could become proper Christians. This meant, for instance, that men had to be circumcised and that no one could eat pork.
This is VERY important . Some traveled with Jesus Paul did not. If you traveled with the Prophet Muhammad , is it possible you were not aware how he felt about eating pork ? You would see it every day as you encountered strangers and potential converts he spoke to . You would know exactly how he felt.
      Paul does not care.

    • @stegokitty
      @stegokitty ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@winstonshipman8734 Firstly, you said that "Paul hated the other disciples", which is patently false, and a wicked fabrication. Secondly when called on your source for suggesting this ridiculous and wicked claim, you then backpeddled and said "Hate' is an awfully strong word" as if the other fellow (Tony) is the one who suggested it. You admitted no wrongdoing. No, instead you bring up a "sharp encounter" that Paul had with Peter and with Peter ALONE. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the "other disciples", and it most certainly didn't display any kind of "hatred" that Paul had for Peter. In fact it was LOVE for Peter, and for other fellow Christians, and especially love for the Gospel of Christ, that Paul rebuked Peter. And he was right to do so. We see in Galatians 2 "But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”"
There's nothing of hatred there, so why would you go and make it as if it was? And we can see that Peter certainly didn't take it as hatred, but loved Paul and respected his Apostolic authority as one who was called directly by the risen Christ, for Peter writes of Paul's writings: "And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures." (2 Peter 3:15-16)
Notice how Peter refers to Paul's letters as "Scripture" in comparing what Paul writes and how wicked people twist what Paul has written "just as they do the other Scriptures". Isn't this what you're doing? Repent quickly.
And Paul did so IN LIGHT OF THE WORD, and in light of the vision that Christ gave to Peter. Paul would've reminded Peter of the vision of the sheet containing every kind of unclean animal, whereupon the Lord said "Rise, kill, and eat", and in Christ's teaching: "And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?”f (Thus he declared all foods clean)." (Mark 7:18-19)
And Paul was able to do these things as well from a theological studies point of view having been a rabbi himself, whereas Peter was a fisherman. Peter's apostolic authority was equal with that of Paul, but his knowledge of the Scriptures and of how one verse answers another was not as extensive, though certainly not lacking. And both of them were inspired by the Holy Spirit. Therefore notice that we have no written teaching by Peter telling us not to eat pork, and to observe Jewish tradition? Right. And we were never supposed to. Everything that we're supposed to have is what we have, by infallible and inerrant inspiration of the Spirit of God, along with the preservation of the Word.
You end your outrageous rant with "Paul does not care".
      Well, I've certainly proven otherwise.
      Repent now, while there's time.

requires that we apply the principle of love rather than chapter and verse prescriptions for "behavior"".
We "work out our salvation with fear and trembling" as Paul puts it.
To read the gospels one cannot but help to feel how stultifying and arid the spiritual, or inner life of the times were.
No wonder the scripture says, "and the common people heard him gladly".

I got the same thing from it. I think there is and should be a balance. On one hand, as the lecturer explain, it cannot be seen as a list of rules that answers every situation that arises. At the same time, it is quite clear how tremendously demanding Jesus is of us In terms of the straight and narrow path, and what it means to truly follow him by taking up our cross and denying ourselves, and that he strongly emphasized numerous times the big importance of caring for the very poor. If we ignore and don’t try hard to fulfill those essential demands and principles of Jesus, we in essence don’t actually believe him or believe in him, and we risk not having eternal wonderful salvation. Thus, people need to be careful to not use lectures like this - and the theme that Paul and the Bible are not telling us what to do in all situations - to take a path in which they fail to put their all hearts and minds towards those things I just described above.
Rather, they should remember what the lecturer says: that in order to reach holiness - which is a word that summarizes what I wrote above - we need to engage in the things he talked about such as the renewing of our minds, becoming more like Christ the prototype and learning to think like Christ plus connect with and be inspired by the Spirit.
One thing to also keep in mind when reading Paul and engaging in Christian theology is the single demand of utmost importance that Peter and the other original members of Jesus‘s inner circle put on Paul, which was: don’t forget the poor. Paul and the original disciples had a sizable number of disagreements. When they met in person to go over those disagreements, The original disciples we’re willing to give in on all of them except for one: which is that Paul should make sure that caring for the poor is remembered in the plan. unfortunately, for various reasons most of us modern Christians do very very little to help the poor.
I am not talking about the so-called American poor, nearly all of whom are in the richest 30% of people in the world and nearly all of whom would have been considered rich by the standards that Jesus used when he talked about the poor and the rich. I am talking about the poorest third of humanity, who are trying to survive on only several dollars per day for all of their needs including shelter, food, transportation, clothing and all else. we have forgotten the poor, and any theology that does not include some amount of focus on the poor is not a Christian theology. I suggest that people read the book named the Hole in our Bibles… for more information on this topic.

In other words, it's written by God, guided by His Holy Spirit through his servants, like Paul - however we Christians would want to say it.
Even though Paul was talking about the Old Testament, I think this applies to the words written in the New Testament guided by the inspiration of God: 2nd Timothy 3: "16 All Scripture given by inspiration of God, and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." If it wasn't it would have fallen apart a very long time ago. And, people would not have faith through hearing and hearing through the Word of God.

He refers to them throughout as "mysteries." He didn't invent --create design something that has not existed. He taught what was revealed to him by Christ after ascension...WHO INVENTED IT. May be splitting hairs but this terminology is likely to contribute to those who resist Paul's teaching. While Tom's words are eloquent and enlightening that term is a distraction to what Tom is trying to get across.

Religion does not have to be "right". Spirituality does! If rambling under a tree, beside a montain or under the sea as a religious ritual brings you the discipline and orderliness that leads you to loving others and righteousness, your real spiritual essence will inevitably be connected with the divine omnipotence. Humans are inertly spiritual beings encased in a material case called the body which goes to the grave and decays once the spiritual contents reunites with the universal omnipotence that had actually been its source. Anybody can invent, start a religion. It is only a false religion when it enforces superiority, inhibits liberty and freedom, invade the circle of the worthwhile comfort of others and has no regard for the most important attribute of universal love. It is not the authencity of the religion. It is the effect its ideology induces!

    • @MrLegitable1
      @MrLegitable1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A vague sense of spirituality is entirely subjective, and therefore useless in determining absolute truth. And you are here asserting your own dogma as absolute truth that is binding to others. Actually, it seems that you are heavily influenced by Christian theology in your value of love. But love in it’s true form requires a “binding and limiting of freedom.” How could a man love his wife if he does not choose to restrict his freedom to womanize? To choose one thing, you must necessarily forsake some other things.

NT Wright is quite a brilliant man. He is one of the seminal scholars of our time and he showed the transition between Second Temple Judaism and Christianity and why it made sense. If you read his series of scholarly work about this, it's pretty incredible. The footnotes and references to Second Temple material (Biblical and non-Biblical) is really incredible. I don't know how Wright accomplished what he did.

What did Jesus teach in earliest known versions of the 4 gospels (Mark, Matthew, Luke, John) except Islam?
      1) Tawhid & Rahma - Mark 12.29 Mathew 12 :7
      2) Law - Mathew 5.17, Jon 14.23 vs. - no mercy/law in Paul Heb 9 & romans 10.4
      3) He is only human like David - Luke 3.22 nrsv footnote , Jon 5 :30
      4) No crucifi-ction - no witnesses until jon switch mother Mary's place, if you honest this shows deliberate change from narrative it has no evidence matching Islam. Quran 3 :54 & 55 to Thesalonians 2 :9! Mark 16 :8 is original ending, no 2nd showing of Jesus copied by other gospels
      5) There is a Prophet after Jesus to come named Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him with verses like jon 1.21, Isaiah 42 etc.
paul in acts 9.3 saw deviI of luke 10 :18 & removed Jesus's commands in romans 10 :4, matches false no command prophet in mathew 24:11...
even paul looked for prophet in Arabia in gal 1 :17, who comes after Jesus in Jon 1 :21...
Anything other then this is a contradiction of Jesus earliest message consistent with all prophets before or figurative. Game over.

pl, understand the literacy rate in Galilee in the first century was 3 percent and the literates were temple priests or Pharisees or Sadducees or the Qumran community people, not fishermen or daily laborers in Galilee area.
Judea was in Ptolemy rule for some time and their official language was Coptic Greek and later seleucid's rule and their official language was old Greek.
The old testament books were written in koine Greek.
The seleucid rule was ended in Judea in the 2nd century BCE when the Maccabees took the control of Judea.
Hebrew was also known to very few people in Judea forget about Greek during the Jesus period.
There is no dispute about the authorship of the NT by the Greeks or Greek-knowing people.
Disciples and Jesus' relatives did not know the Greek language.
Luke and Paul or mark are exemption

      2 Peter is a probably forgery 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
As with all of the ‘catholic’ epistles, no one knows.
Scholars of the historical-critical study of the Bible disagree on who wrote 1 Peter.¹ Well, being academics, they disagree on pretty much everything-but when it comes to the authorship of the New Testament, some of the most widely agreed-upon facts are that
Whoever the author of 1 Peter was-the disciple or some unknown Christian writing in his name-he was not the author of 2 Peter. The styles and the command of the Greek language are completely different.
Regardless of who wrote 1 Peter, the author of 2 Peter was not the apostle.
This was known already in ancient times. The Church Father Eusebius accepted 1 Peter as being authentic, but even he didn’t buy 2 Peter. In the early 4th century CE, Didymus the Blind, student of Origen, wrote of 2 Peter that “We must therefore not be ignorant of the fact that the epistle at hand is forged…”
2 Peter was written long after the time when Jesus’s original disciples died. 2 Peter copies 75% of the epistle of Jude (19/25 verses), and the author refers to the Pauline epistles as “Scripture”. While the disciple Peter was alive, if he knew of any Pauline epistles at all, they’d have been considered mere letters-it was only as later Christians came to revere the early apostles that Paul’s letters (and the forgeries in his name) to be “Scripture”.
It’s also noteworthy that while early Christian writings, like the undisputed Pauline epistles, anticipate an imminent παρουσια parousia (“second coming”) (see e.g. 1 Thess 4:17), 2 Peter explicitly repudiates this expectation: 2 Peter chapter 3 is largely an attempt to explain away the disappointment of an imminent parousia.

So imo someone must have put this letter in the N.T to make paul a credible person..cause in the early christianity days people were questioning paul authenticity, as all the true real disciples of jesus were against paul...
So they needed to clear things and cover paul lies in order this 'idolatry pauline christianity' wins the lot..

2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

***John 20:26-29 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Please don't throw broad accusations without making reference to credible sources otherwise you are merly giving me your opinion and counts for nil. If you bothered to study the bible you see Paul going to Jeruslam and meeting Peter and James to ensure his teachings have not been in vain. They give him their hand of fellowship. In other words we agree keep up the good work.
St Ignatious and Clements both students of Peter and john write about St. Paul and declare in their writings that his writings were scripture and that he was on par with both disciples.
So I afraid these baseless accusations of yours are very hollow and without substance.

He hijacked Christianity from Mithraism. infiltrated the ideas into the former. He never even met Jesus personally and he was not endorsed to preach to the world. Jesus was only for the Jews. Period.
