N. T. Wright approaches the Apostle Paul as the world's first, and greatest, Christian theologian. Much of his lifetime study has had Paul, his life and writings, as the focus. He has offered detailed insights into Paul's life and times for over 30 years, beginning with his dissertation on Pauline Theology and Romans and continuing through his recently released, two-volume Paul and the Faithfulness of God. In between those writings, Wright has produced over 60 books, many of which have dealt with Paul, and another one is soon to be released, Paul and His Recent Interpreters.

N. T. Wright was born on December 1, 1948 in Morpeth, Northumberland, England. He is a retired Anglican bishop and a leading New Testament scholar. Wright was the Bishop of Durham in the Church of England from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. He is currently Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St. Mary's College, University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
In a 2003 interview he said that he could never remember a time when he was not aware of the presence and love of God. He recalled an occasion at age four or five when "sitting by
myself at Morpeth and being completely overcome, coming to tears, by the fact that God loved me so much he died for me. Everything that has happened to me since has produced wave upon wave of the same."
In addition to his Doctor of Divinity degree from Oxford University, he has also been awarded honorary doctoral degrees from Durham University in 2007, the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in 2008, the University of St. Andrews in 2009, Heythrop College, University of London in 2010, and the Ecumenical Institute of
Theology at St. Mary's Seminary & University in 2012.
Among modern New Testament scholars, Wright is an important proponent of traditional views on theological matters including Christ's bodily resurrection and second coming. Further he has expressed strenuous opposition both to the ordination of openly gay persons and the blessing of same-sex partnerships and
marriages. On the other hand, he has criticized the idea of a literal rapture, coauthored a book with his friend Marcus Borg, a widely known voice of liberal Christianity, and is associated with the Open Evangelical movement and New Perspective on Paul, both of which are controversial in many conservative theological circles.
He has published over 50 books and spoken often on radio and television. His latest books include Paul and the Faithfulness of God, Paul and His Recent Interpreters (forthcoming), How God Became King, and The Case for the Psalms: Why They Are
Essential. One of his most important popular series is his New Testament for Everyone that includes 18 volumes.

Our lives are to be like Jesus's even in our death. His death on the cross is to be our model. We do not get to choose the manner of our death but we accept it and in so doing--He our risen Lord, helps us bear our pain and suffering. Your teaching is very good ❤
Very much appreciating Dr. Wright's words (@35:45), "I have a mantra, which I run regularly, which goes like this: We must stop giving 19th century answers, to 16th century questions. And, start giving 21st century answers to 1st century questions. That's hard." Amazing insight… Here are a couple of hard 1st century questions, for 21st century theologians:
Paul said Moses veiled the Old Testament, that was only UNveiled by the "Spirit of the Lord" (2Cor 3:12-18 KJV). Certainly, that's a "Comforter", the Holy Spirit of Truth, kinda thing. The proverbial mark of Cain being exemplary. Jesus' Divine Paternity was challenged in John 8:12+, responding that according to Mosaic Law (Deu 17:6; 19:15), "two witnesses", Jesus and His Father, testify to His Divine Paternity (John 8:17, 18).
Jesus' testimony was something He "saw with" His Father (John 8:38). God's testimony was a "truth" Jesus "heard from God", something Abraham never heard (John 8:40). Both of those OT testimonies are veiled in the OT. Two entities (Jesus, and Father/God), in two testimonies (John 8:38, 40), by "two witnesses" (John 8:17, 18)… according to Mosaic Law (Deu 17:6; 19:15)… that “converted” (v. 15, Mat 13:10-17) Jesus’ ‘believers’, into His “disciples indeed” (John 8:31, 32). Something seen, and something heard... eyes to see, and ears to hear (Mat 13:10-17). Recall the Great Commission. Speaking of "disciples indeed", Acts 11:KJV,
25. Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
26. And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Paul, fluent in the OT, evidently taught the explicit and succinct details of those two testimonies (John 8:38, 40), that authenticated Jesus' Divine Paternity: "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch". So, the original Christians were Jesus' "disciples indeed"; and, Paul even stayed with one before the scales fell from his eyes (Ananias, Acts 9). I've asked a half-dozen PhD theologians in a familiar accredited university, about that scenario. The sad state of affairs is only one even realized there WERE two testimonies authenticating Jesus' Divine Paternity (John 8:38, 40). And, he humbly responded that he'd been pondering those testimonies for about eight years, to no avail.
Perhaps those two unveiled testimonies (John 8:38, 40) are too hard for 21st century theologians. All disciples are indeed, Christians. But, Christians are evidently not all disciples, nowadays. Somewhat plagiarizing, "truth" is greater than the sum of all knowledge... And, what makes those testimonies hard, is their unveiling totally shifts the framework of the Bible… Folk will find themselves being Mat 8:19, 20 followers of Jesus… because there are no churches that teach what Paul evidently taught at Antioch. What are the explicit and succinct details, of those two testimonies (John 8:38, 40)?

For as many that are led by the spirit of GOD they are the SONs of GOD.
Being led by the spirit of God actually has a very specific meaning: it isn’t just a bunch of words. The led are actors - you don’t know any of them, they aren’t people you come across in daily life. Christ is very pessimistic about the response to the teaching, because all the great prophets are well briefed as to the dismal state of humanity. They know the impact is minimal. They know the response is dominated by self-serving hypocrisy - just as described in the gospels and in Acts

The quotes in big blue bars put me off at first, but they also did the trick. Once I realized how central the first two blue-barred statements were, I learned to love them. "The Jews did not ask how they could understand God more." "The Jews did ask, 'When is God coming back?'" I hear the siren song of full preterism (not from NT Wright, of course -- just in my own mind). What do you think about the sky rolling up like a scroll? It seems to me the only apocalyptic imagery left after 70 AD is the remaking of the heavens and the earth. Could the sky/scroll image be interpreted as the fulfillment of the old covenant, and following that, the new covenant as the remaking?
Then of course, there's the general resurrection. I'll follow the good bishop's inaugerated eschatology until I become overwhelmingly convinced of preterism, but that sure would make my life easier.
34:12 - the scriptures and the Gospel.
Paul says in Romans 10:8: "The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart; that is , the word of FAITH, which we preach."
When you unceasingly pray, for instance, "Hear O Israel: The Lord Our God is one God," it will drop down into your heart and in due time Christ is being formed or birthed. This is mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations---"Christ in you, the hope of glory."
If you know who you are in Christ, you know you have all authorty of heaven and earth to destroy the works of Satan who deludes Christians into believing that you are slaves to yoke of bondage.

Released from Bondage to the commandments of men. God's burden is light and as Jesus taught.... a light yoke. Romans 3:31. Christ removed sin which means the covering for sin is improved with the Torah written on the heart & the Holy Spirit to give us strength to recognise and overcome lies of men who are teachers of the false Jesus as a lawlessness Saviour. : )
What does this destruction look like to you, a practical example
The only kind of bondage is to sin. 1 John 3:4 For sin is transgression of the Law. Christ removes sin by writing the Law of God on our hearts according to Jerimiah 31:31 as the New Covenant. Being in Christ means doing what God considers good. And Christ broke down the middle wall of separation between Jew & gentiles. The New Testament tells us that were the dogmas of ordinances....additions & subtraction from God's law through misapplication by men.
Like the rules of handwashing ( only for Levitical priests approaching for Temple service ) & the ORAL instruction to not associate with Gentiles which is not in the Torah at all.
Christ is King of the Righteous not the wicked. We praise Him for setting us free from bondage to sin & the burdensome commandments of men that have no power to save. Hallelujah!!😃💓Blessings to truth seekers!! May we love the truth that sets us free!!😁👍👍🌼🙏🐑🐑
The citation of ..GOD IS ONE..is at odds with the TRINITY.
The TRINITY says that God is THREE in ONE.
Paul invented stuff and we need to repudiate them.
Of course his counsel has some nice lessons that we can use. Just like any other counselor.
The Church is actually a beautiful revelation. The institutions that existed up to that time none, not even the Nation of Israel, could achieve the great vision of God in bringing humanity together in one body....in some sense we could say the church joined in spirit to Christ was the new creation the womb through which God could bring forth children unto God.
So all that is true of Christ, Paul saw is true of Him in the church...he saw that man must let go of every divisive endeavour and embrace the new revelation which is not a mystical revelation as we have come to think but merely the correct/spiritual way of interpreting life.
I think Christianity has suffered primarily because we have misunderstood this. When Christ said the kingdom is within you the western mind has taken it to mean a secret, private and personal enjoyment of God..and I think I heard the presenter make that similar point. It is not private or secret at all. It is the he birthright of all the nations. "Jesus is Lord" Is the theme of the entire bible. This is the churches message but sad to say we have retired into our four-walled corners thinking we "saved ones" are the privileged lot.

From the comprehensive study of the scriptures, placing the content of the New Testament within its historical context, it is clearly revealed to us that the conversion of Paul (Shaul) consists in that he is an Israelite Jew from the tribe of Benjamin, a Pharisee, a disciple of Gamaliel, who believed that Yahshua is the Messiah of the Hebrew people, prophecied by the word of God within the same Hebrew tradition. Because of having believed in Yahshua, Shaúl (Paul) is baptized in the baptism of Yohanan (John, who is a respected Jew considered a prophet by the people of Israel) for repentance of sins. God instructed the people of Israel about these sins that they had to repent and turn away from through the Torah (law of Moses). Shaúl (Paul) was chosen by Yahweh, God of the Hebrew patriarchs to know his will and was sent by Yahshua to minister to both the Gentiles and the kings and children of Israel, for which he received the Holy Spirit through the imposition from the hands of Ananias (who is also a Jew). Here we can clearly notice that it is not a question of a conversion to "Christianity" or to Catholicism, considered as a new church or religion separated from the people of Israel and the Hebrew tradition. (Acts 22: 6 to 21), but rather this conversion implies the abandonment of the religious beliefs dictated by rabbinic Judaism to deliver their Faith to the Messiah of the people of Israel announced by the Hebrew prophets, within the same Israelite tradition.
The truth that the scriptures reveal to us is that Paul never denied his origin or his Jewish faith, what he abandoned was his stubbornness to deny that Yahshua is really the savior expected by the people of Israel and recognized him as Messiah. He never claimed to be "Christian." The great value of Paul's ministry is that, while fully preserving his Jewish identity (Pharisee of Pharisees, disciple of Gamaliel, connoisseur of the Torah), he showed a genuine interest, dedication and love to share his faith and the gospel of the Messiah of people of Israel with all the Gentiles outside their tradition, fully convinced that Yahshua is the resurrected son of God, and made a great effort to introduce the gospel to all nations, facing the rejection of the Hebrew orthodoxy that refused to recognize Yahshua. He rejects the hellenization of the Jews avoiding paganizing the tradition, but neither does he tries to convert all gentiles into orthodox Jews, however he insists that the law (the Torah) and the prophets must be known. He never teaches two different gospels, he teaches only one based on the teachings of the Messiah of Israel. The prophets tell us of the vision that the gentiles will abandon idolatry and come to worship the God of Israel. The idea propagated by the fathers of the Greco-Roman church that the mission of Paul the Jew was to start a new religion is as absurd as thinking that Yahshua came to found a new religion. The "church based religion" is an invention of the "church fathers" that came after the disciples of Yahshua were gone, based on the missinterpretation of Paul´s epistoles. If there is something that Christian theologians master with great skill, it is the use of Greek techniques of rhetoric.
Personal testimony that Paul made in his defense before Rome, according to the word we read in Acts 25: 7-8 “When he arrived, the Jews who had come from Jerusalem surrounded him, presenting against him many and serious accusations, the which they couldn't prove; Paul alleging in his defense: Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I sinned in anything. " Words that are ratified in Chapter 28:17 “And it came to pass that three days later, Paul summoned the chief of the Jews; to whom, after they were together, he said: I, male brothers, having done nothing against the people, nor against the customs of our fathers, have been delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans; " the same in Philippians 3: 6 as to the justice that is in the Torah, I have been blameless. So there are only two possibilities: either Paul lied by stating on different occasions in his epistles that he never did anything against the Torah and its traditions, or those who are lying are Christian theologians who claim that Paul invented christian theology.

See my comment pinned at the top affirming the same. Paul discovered from within Torah all that he taught. the only meaning of "invent" would be an archaic understanding which most would not even be aware of. So it is unfortunate that the speaker used a term so misleading.

@@joe-jg4bh getting back to watching it now. The speaker suggests a very late date for Acts. my understanding on the two books authored by Luke written to Theophilus a Roman official was an attempt to show the accusations against Paul to be false. look at the words charged against Paul by his accusers and the record given by Luke. He seems to deal with them all. The book ends before a record of Paul's death. So if it is written after his death two questions arise. One why make the defense since it would be irrelevant. and Two why is there no record of his death. the second could be answered because both Luke and Acts are written on the longest scrolls available and there was no more room to include that information however the first objection has no good answer. if Paul is dead why write a defense for him? So I would question a late date for the writing of Acts. it was written after Luke but before Paul's death and must have been written shortly after Luke. I also pick up a suggestion that Paul was starting a non Jewish anti-law/Torah movement. i see this as popular but inaccurate of the Biblical evidence. Paul was continuing as an observant Jew his argument for Gentile inclusion is Torah based. it was agreed upon by the Apostles in Jerusalem if Luke's account in Acts is valid. Even James gave Paul and Barnabas a letter of authorization. They would not do this if there was no Hebrew Scriptural authority for the position the held.

What is so interesting about these comments is one person is trying to out do another in their scriptural knowledge of the God of Love. You can argue the laws and the dispensations all you like one true resounding message is very clear, love one and other. In the end do you think your sum total of life will be how you all argued so well about what the words mean't or will the sum total of life be how you treated people with love. Paul did put it beautifully when he basically said do not drag yourself down and get involved in humanities attempts to understand God. Get on with loving life and one and other. If your understanding of the words enable you to hurt another human being you are part of the problem, not the solution.

There is no problem with language. The word of God is ONE, as is God himself! The culprit is more likely the world, the flesh and the Devil.

Paul was a believer as per Peter but he was not an Apostle as of himself saying he was lessor than them. Paul also was not on Par with Jesus as many have said but rather should be taken as a commentary on what the old testament and the gospels actually say.

Peter did not write 2nd Peter. Peter was chosen by Jesus to be the Apostle to the gentiles., not Paul. Paul is a 13th Apostle. There are only 12 Apostles. Matthias replaced Judas. Check how many names of Apostles are on the foundations of the New Jerusalem. Paul preached "his" gospel, not the gospel of the Apostles.

If it's the case that Paul's central symbol is the church itself, in that the way the church conducts itself is how the world sees "a new reality is let loose", then the picture over the last 2000 years has been pretty mixed, to put it mildly. I say that not in mockery or provocation, but in grief.

It seems a high school class must have been invited to comment on this video. One that had studies the eminent scholarship of Dan Brown, Bill Maher, and Bart Erhman who rejects he authenticity of "The Declaration of Independence" and the claim that Lincoln authored "The Gettysburg Address" due to their variation in the text of copies.
Perhaps most misleading is the word "Imvented" in the title of this video. Paul describes things that were taught to him by Christians in Antioch who had learned it from the Disciples. Being the most educated of the apostles he seems a wise choice to both record and build out these ideas on a larger theological framework. Paul was "inventor" of Christian theology, in the same respect that Neil Armstrong was "inventor" of the moon!
Paul claims the very opposite. "For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Gal 1:12. So it is incorrect to claim that Paul was taught anything by Christians in Antioch who had learned it from the Disciples - who oddly enough were still alive at the time..

But I'm surprised he didn't address the critical issue that separated Paul from the Jewish culture at large-and still does: "This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place" (Acts 21:28). Paul's continuing argument against tradition, justice and law in favor of grace through faith in God is at the heart of his Gospel.

Still, I'm sure even the one formerly known as Saul of Tarsus could have been seen as an "imposter." by his contemporaries. @Black God Disciple Stone Nation tracing authorship has limited unimportance if Paul said nothing new in regard to Israel’s blessing to the world. All he did was (rather thoroughly) reason the grace (= gift, or blessing) of God over the law.
What is clear from all this and the separation between Paul and Barnabas is that Paul was teaching what Jesus never taught or asked his desciples to teach. Jesus taught strict obeisance to the law. In his sermon to his followers Jesus said " It was said in the past ...........but I say unto you......". He actually tightened the law. So by any imagination Paul's teachings were an aberation to what Jesus Christ and his desciples taught.
Now the importatnt question is , did Jesus know that someone like Paul will come after him and did he mention it ? Absolutely yes.
Jesus warned about the coming of the false prophets who will come "IN HIS NAME " and may mislead even the very elect. In fact Paul has been very successful in this and his industry has become a trillion dollars money making machine. Jesus was a thorough bred practicing Jew who prayed to God the creator like every Jew and never claimed to be God. Paul's industry has gone to absurdities by proclaiming Jesus as God.

Regarding the "tightening" of the law-yes Jesus did that exactly when he virtually equated lust with adultery, and anger with murder. But more than that, Jesus explained the origins of adultery and murder as the passions of the flesh. That was his real point-which the apostles expanded on in their letters.
Then why should Jesus not be God? If God could speak through a jackass or burning bush, could his word not also become flesh? Acts seeks to unite Paul and Peter's doctrine. But Acts has to distort Paul's writings. For instance, the Jerusalem Council decided that Gentiles are to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, but Paul teaches many times that you can eat any meat.
A large number of people have come to see that a serious bible study is the way to get to know the will of the Almighty, so how do you view their research when it is kept separate from popular church doctrine.?How do we adjust to the separating of the wheat from the weeds?

@@TV-fu1ec i looked in Spam it was not there either. you were saying the Covenants were God's way to communicate his will and you were not sure if Christianity had continued that. my thoughts are I think many in Christianity have failed to understand the Hebraic roots which our faith is based upon. I think Paul went back to Genesis and based grace upon the promise of God to Abraham. this covenant proceeded the Covenant with Moses at Sinai and Paul reasons the later covenant had not nullified the former. So Jesus comes to fulfill both the Abrahamic and the Mosaic covenants and we are recipients of the blessings promised upon all who have the faith of Abraham.
We would do well to know the deep roots that we are part of.

Hebrews talks about the Covenant with Moses passing away and a covenant based on better promises. many see this as Old Covenant and New Covenant but Paul argues the Abrahamic Covenant which is older than the Mosaic is the basis. Jesus brings both together. He becomes Israel and fulfills their promised to do all that is declared in the Decalogue at Mount Sinai. He also fulfills the promise God makes to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through his promised seed. The giving of the Spirit coincided with the celebration of the Covenant held at Mount Sinai. So the Law was fulfilled and the blessing promised came in the form of the Spirit being poured out. the covenants were called the Everlasting Covenant so they were not abolished they were established and the New is a renewal of the Abrahamic where God alone promises to bring about his promise to Abraham.

Speaking of thinking, what fruit does the knowledge of good and evil produce? It's not and Apple or an orange. It isn't a lemon either but it is a sour fruit and most often turns quite bitter.
Eating the fruit means building an attachment to your concept of right and wrong. Attachment is the eating part and judgment is the fruit produced by the knowledge of good and evil.
Appology, forgiveness or humility is spitting the Fruit back up and grace is leaving it on the Tree; reserving judgment or at least your attachment to it.

So you're saying that Paul--the one guy on the planet at that time, who had the entire Torah memorized beFORE going to study with Gamaliel, the preeminent Torah teacher, the Paul that says he was as zealous for God--that God picked Paul to say to the entire world "The law is done away with"? That makes no sense and isn't true. Paul spends his time explaining the Torah to those who had not grown up with it. It's only the "Church" that decided it was something new when they hadn't fully understood the actual Scriptures.

Yes God is brilliant. I don't readily see Paul contradicting Jesus. There seems to be a contradiction between James and Paul. But contextually they are dealing with standing/justification between different entities. James is talking about being justified to fellow believers/men and Paul is dealing with justification before God. Paul also teaches what James teaches but uses a different choice of words that do not seem contradictory as James did. James also gives credence to Paul's understanding of Gentiles being accepted by faith rather than works of the law when the discussion is raised in Jerusalem and they put few restrictions than the law would. These seeming contradictions reveal the divine mind. and they are throughout scripture. example being justified by faith apart from works of the law yet also being judged according to your deeds. God being sovereign yet he has man choose. there are many many more. they appear contradictory but they are actually paradoxes (two equally true statements that appear to contradict but don't)

As I see it, the springboard of Paul's presentations is summarized in the two choices he gave to Felix and Drusilla in Acts 24:24-26: "Faith in Jesus Christ" or "righteousness, self-control and the coming judgment." Which will it be?
Paul’s letters then walk his readers through how he thinks. They’re organic beginning with this agreed-to proposition of faith in Jesus Christ. They are “if this then that" kind of discussions.
Problem is we sincere Christians will take Paul conclusions-and turn them into a verse-by-verse “believe this and do that” religion, rather than understand his whole argument.
Knowing how Paul thinks however, we should be able to begin at the same place, and come to the same conclusions.
Paul was not opposed to righteousness, self control or the judgment to come as if it is juxtaposed to faith in Christ. the one leads to the other just as cause leads to effect. Faith in Christ bring completeness based upon the gift of God's righteousness demonstrated in the Christ event. When we believe we become one with him and the Holy Spirit which Jesus deserves becomes ours and then "the righteousness of the Law shall be fulfilled in us who walk not by the flesh but by the Spirit." However, "by the righteousness of the law shall no flesh be justified." The righteousness of God in Christ is what justifies. it is the cause the righteousness of the Law that shall be fulfilled in us is the effect. They are not juxtaposed as if opposites one leads to the other. Paul writings are full of exhortations after he conveys the Gospel of God's covenantal faithfulness manifested in Jesus' death for sin and resurrection for our justification. God's work is the basis of our inclusion into God's people. But as citizens of the kingdom we embrace "righteousness, self control and (we look forward) to the coming judgment" where we will be fully restored. We now only have a down payment but then we will be fully clothed in righteousness. We are declared to be complete in Christ and we strive to become what we are said to be. But our stiving does not lead to God's righteousness, it is only the result of it. Many distort Paul by thinking he advocates faith is juxtaposed to Law. But he claims "faith establishes the Law.." It puts it into proper perspective. God's work done "for us" results in God's work "in us." the two are not equal they need to be distinguished but they are not in opposition they come together. One is primary and the other is secondary but noone will be saved without both being evidenced.

I can see the message Wright is getting at here, but he should have started off with the understanding that "all scripture is God-breathed" and worked out his title and message from there. God worked through Paul using him as a vessel by which to reach all mankind with the Gospel message and, yes, God used a new way of getting that message across through the God-breathed inspired New Testament scripture. God is the "inventor" of all theology and simply uses man as a vessel to deliver the message.
I disagree, God gives us truth, but “theology” is the different ways we try to UNDERSTAND that truth. So God doesn’t just give us theology directly, but lets us have the opportunity to explore it ourselves (hopefully with the Spirit’s guidance).

N.T. Wright is a good scholar and has written valuable works on the Christian religion. However his new perspectives on Paul is way off! And I question his understanding of sin and redemption as the basis for his errors on Paul. The reference to Akiba is one example of this? Akiba, though valiant and courageous never received the God of Israel's Messiah. Therefore he did not receive the heart spoken of in the Prophet Ezekiel and plainly spoken of by our Lord Jesus in John chapter 3. Which means he died in his sin and was never regenerated! The fact that Wright cannot see this proves his misunderstanding of salvation and true conversion? These are serious errors and the kind of problem that follows the new perspective? The Westminster confession other than in its faulty view of Baptism is thoroughly biblical and evangelical. Jews can talk of grace but it is just talk until they receive the Messiah. No unsaved person does good works from a natural heart! The Saints under the old covenant were indeed regenerated the same as they are under the new! The new lays out all the details and provides the reasons that are behind a true and genuine salvation and conversion experience. In Matthew Jesus tells us of multitudes who do good works and think that they have done them in truth and sincerity only to find that they were never saved and that their faith and deeds were done from the flesh and not from the power of the Spirit of God. Devout Jews labor under the same condition. Religion without regeneration is a damning thing. Knowing the difference separates genuine faith from a false deluded faith. Those spoken of in Matthew had a false and carnal faith and were trusting in themselves and their religious zeal and good works. Wright misses this notable distinction and serves as the reason for his errors with respect to Paul and what Paul taught in all of his writings. Well according to Luke who wrote the book of Acts, in chapter 19, demonic spirits knew the authority of Jesus and Paul.
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.
This is a bit confusing. If indeed Paul changed the teachings of Jesus then how come his letters are still kept in the Bible?? Jesus was circumcised Paul said no need. Same with pork. So it's a fact that if Jesus come back today he won't recognise christianity as it is practiced and preached.
Jesus had almost nothing to do with the theology about him. It was created by his followers.

It depends on what you mean by theology. By normal Protestant definition what the author of Hebrews calls "the elementary teachings of Christ" (Hebrews 6) namely "repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment" are NOT theology. "Theology" in Protestant terms, and even in Catholic terms, is CHRISTOLOGY. Jesus taught a moral system built around faith in God and ending in judgement based on works. Paul and friends taught christology about Jesus which began as adoptionist (even in Paul) but ultimately ended up as Arian christology (as in Colossians), and Paul in particular ended up bolderizing Jesus' teachings, as the writer in Hebrews 6 says "Therefore let us leave behind the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity" meaning that Paul and the followers of his heresy believed Jesus' own teachings were infantile but their nonsense is mature.
Church is divided, and some Jews jump in for curiosity, but the next minute they jump out immediately.

Interesting title. Remarkable that so much of Christian theology is based on Paul's "inventions" and expanded intrepretations (Paul might say based on visions and revelations) rather than the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
Paul's theological inventions beyond Jesus teachings seems akin to later inventions of elaborate rituals to 'perfect' Christianity by the Roman church itself. (Perhaps the later are even a result of Paul's emphasis on the church?)
The Bible is the authority, it trumps scholarly concensus. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, God-breathed. God can not lie Titus 1:2 . The Bible holds all the answers: Compare scripture with scripture just as the Bible tells us: "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line: here a little and there a little" (Isaiah 28:10). The Bible is not one book but 66 books written over a period of 1500 years. The Bible is the authority on the Bible! Jesus himself said in John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, "he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." IITim3:16 "All scripture is "given by inspiration of God", and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Peter 1:21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but "men spoke from God" as they were carried along "by the Holy Spirit." Paul is not inspired.
Thank you for your thought. Some hold to the idea you express, however I don't agree with that. Except where Paul "says" he speaks for himself on certain points for example having to do with marriage (I Cor 7) we know that the Bible says ALL scripture is given by "inspiration" which means "God breathed". So, to say that Paul is not inspired is really quite an amazing conclusion you have drawn. The Apostle Paul was CHOSEN, singled out by God on the Damascus Road. Your ideas are contrary to the truth in the Word of God. That's between you and the Lord, but it has nothing to do with whether Paul was inspired, because the Word says differently than your words.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Peter, it is the authoritative Word of God.

Its amazing to say Paul is not inspired because Paul says "All scripture is inspired"? Really? First, Paul doesn't say that. A good case can be made that it should be translated not "All scripture is inspired and is profitable..." but "All scripture that is inspired is also profitable..." But be that as it may. Its pretty obvious that when Paul says "All scripture is inspired" he obviously isn't referring to his own writings, but to the Old Testament and the Gospels. How can anyone brainwash themselves into thinking that he's self-referencing here? Only by brainwashing themselves, obviously, but that's just plain absurd.

As for Acts, Luke accurately records Paul's bogus claims and later embellishments of his conversion story as the lie evolves in Paul's mouth over time. Luke's accurate recording of this information is a confirmation that there is something deeply wrong with Paul, not a confirmation of Paul's story (actually, stories, plural). And one thing to be noted of special significance is that Luke never calls Paul an apostle except in one verse where he's second fiddle to Barnabas "The apostles Barnabas and Paul rent their clothes." In what sense is Barnabas, here given seniority over Paul, an apostle? In the sense that he was sent out by the church at Antioch, an apostle of men, an apostle of a congregation, not of Jesus Christ. Paul lies in Galatians disclaiming that he's an apostle of men in the same sense as Barnabas, saying "Paul, an apostle not of men nor by man but by Jesus Christ," but Luke already exposed him as merely an apostle of men like Barnabas so the gig is up.

Yes, Paul was a Torah scholar. He did not invent so much as uncover what had been hidden in Torah.
Paul went to Arabia.. Stole the ideas from A Jewish reformist named Isa Ibn Maryam and reproduced them, mixing them with other believes and attributed then to the crucified guy, whom he never met, and you ended up with this religion known as Christianity..
