We take a walk to the beautiful King Edwards Bay in Tynemouth near Newcastle, walking from the Tynemouth Monument opposite Tynemouth Priory and Castle and the Rock of Gibraltar Pub down East Street and Sea banks and down to Tynemouth Beach (Short Sands).
This stunning seaside bay has been a holiday spot for centuries and was extremely popular with the Victorians who came from inner city Newcastle and surrounding towns and cities to Tynemouth in North Shields Tyneside for their holiday breaks.

Tynemouth Castle and Priory on the coast of North East England was once one of the largest fortified areas in England. Overlooking the North Sea and the River Tyne, it dominates the headland. With its 2000 year history and beautiful views it is the perfect location for a family fun day out. A popular spot to enjoy the view and a great location to have a picnic, lie back and enjoy the sea air.
With a magnificent location next to Tynemouth Priory and Castle and overlooking King Edward's Bay, The Gibraltar Rock offers quality food and drinks in a warm and cosy environment. The carvery and special desserts are what they are famous for and why lots of you choose it for eating out on special occasions.
Riley's Fish Shack is situated on the beach of King Edwards Bay in the shadow of the castle and priory and is a well regarded fish restaurant that aims to serve sustainable delicious fish.
Tynemouth is a large town and former county borough in England, at the River Tyne's mouth. A historic part of Northumberland, it is administratively a part of North Tyneside borough in Tyne and Wear county. Until 1974, the town was a county borough, including North Shields

The north east has some of the best beaches ever all the way as far up as Barnard castle and beyond. As a kid I spent all my summer holidays on these beaches and still do age 67 just love the north east wouldent want to live anywhere els. Over looking tynemouth pier there are castle towers gatehouse keep are combined with ruins of Benedictine priory where early kings of north Umbria were buried coat of arms of towns of tynemouth still includes three crowns commemorating tradition that priory had for been burial place for three kings
