To the Petersens, I understand your desire to sing it from a woman's perspective. But can you go through the lyrics again, I find discontinuation as you replace I with you, especially, when "some other woman's cryin' to her mother 'Cause she turned and you were gone" From the beginning, it is a woman who is singing and the man is stable in one place. "You dip your cup of soup back " again here until now, the woman is the one leaving the man, suddenly the man is the one travelling

All I can say to you yanks is ignore the flak you get from us europeans - yes none of our countries are perfect but this rendition of the song just takes me back to that middle america where you have the most beautiful countryside and people and should be rightly proud.
Just to add I'm from the Cotswolds in England - the most quintessential view you all have of us but Missouri is an equal in landscape - not history though but I fell in love with it all the same - this song just transports me there - great job.

One of the things I love about this is the woman in the back who I presume is the mom, taking a back seat to the talent of her kids, and the unassuming role of someone who has surely sacrificed dearly in the effort to produce such a beautiful display.

The Petersons have renewed a timeless classic and carried it into a new generation. I hope they appreciate it as much as we did.

I can never get enough of this performance. I especially love Julianne's voice. This is my favorite of all your songs, but I do enjoy your group immensely!
Wonderful performance of this classic. John Hartford wrote this, Glenn Campbell made it a hit. I’m so glad there are young people that appreciate it and do it justice.
Julianne Petersen has a voice that gives me goose bumps, she has such a great resonance. I can listen to the song again and again and that as a Linkin Park fan.

Her voice is very addictive and unique (in a really good way) and has hooked me. She doesn’t seem to think much of her voice but she’s got the thing. She adds so much to the vocals in the mix too.
There is more talent in this one video of 4 minutes and 10 seconds, than I have experienced in my whole 66 years of living. Rare, beautiful, lovely talent and happy, close, loving family...it shows in their music!!

Pretty wild... I discovered them about a month ago too! My wife and I have a cabin near Branson and we're going to have to try and catch them next summer!
I had just listened to two different versions of this great tune before I stumbled across this one, and it brought me to tears. I can imagine that this is exactly the way John Hartford would have wanted to hear it. Love Emmet's dobro.
That voice is so wonderfully natural and completely free from pretence and affectation. I will admit that I listen to her singing that song at least twice a week. Thank you, Julianne
It's like passing the torch. Dad used to play the bass. Mom played the mandolin. Then Julienne grew up and played the mandolin, and Mom played the bass. Dad can just sit back, relax and enjoy the music.
Has anyone else been binging on their music lately? Every time I think one sibling is the most talented I watch their next video and change my mind. LOL.
Covid 102-105 degree for 6-8 weeks... I don't know day it is, or even if it day or night. You KNOW I gotta be binging on them, to maintain my sanity and remember what happiness used to be. I cannot love this version of this classic song enough. I've been listening to it everyday for the past week-and-a-half. It's just...phenomenal and perfect.
I just can’t hear this song enough! Your family performed this as beautifully as I’ve ever heard (outside of the first time with Glen doing the original)! I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in 1968-69 when I was a young Marine combat infantry officer in Vietnam. I was down near China Beach in DaNang and heard it playing. I was in the mash unit being treated for wounds and said to myself, “I’ve got to learn that song when I get back to the world!” I did exactly that, thanks to God for getting me home safely. There’s no song that I’ve ever played more...over...and over...and over. Just can’t get tired of it. I’m 76 and I remember when I heard the news that Glen died....I just broke down and cried! Thanks for the memories, kids (and mom!)...I believe Glen would have loved to hear your rendition...and maybe he just did! ;) Jerry Glazener, Capt. USMC, ret...and still picking in Texas!
Captain, first of all thank you for your service to our great country. I would like to refer you to John Hartford's version of this song if you haven't already heard it. He is the writer of the song and an immensely talented musician. Blessings to you sir...
I'm 69 and was fortunate to be watching the Glen Campbell Show when he first sang this. I am so happy for you that you returned from the Nam, only wishing that all could have done so as well. You had it SO tough. Every time I visit the Wall in Washington I am moved to tears.
Captain Glazener. Thank you for your service in the Vietnam War. Those of us that served later, and were treated right by are fellow citizens know you Vietnam vets got a really raw deal from the American people. Well, this citizen at least, really appreciates you. Glad you lived to learn this song. Oh, folks should always remember, "Don't Mess With Texas!"
John Hartford tells a great story about how he wrote this . He said he was a blue grass banjo picker in the cotton fields of southeast Missouri. He never wrote it as a pop song but here we are. The song has been very good to me.
Ever wake up in the morning during a shift in seasons and the fresh air stings your nostrils in the most delightful way? Yeah... This has the same sort of effect on my ears.
The Petersens are a family in which music instead of blood flows through their veins. It is simply wonderful to be able to experience them as a musical family. Many thanks for that.
Yes, of all the videos I appreciate Matt's guitar more on this one over all the others. I came to the Petersens after obsessive listening to the You Tube video of Glen Campbell on this song, identified by (terrific guitar break) when doing a You Tube search. The corresponding instrumental break by Matt and Emmett before the final verse corresponds and is done differently but is marvelous.
I'm crying, I love the interpretation, so many sing but as a group you lend life and light, I love you all. Thank you so much , I am humbled greatly and still crying. Bless you.
I would like to express my appreciation for Mama Karen, always content to be in the back, happy to see the kids doing so well. Her tempo, rhythm and intonation always seem to be solid. She is the foundation of this group, and I credit her with its success.
When you raise your family right, when the seeds of good values are planted and nurtured, when the Lord is in your heart you get The Paterson’s. Their talent built through faith and hard work is a blessing to us all. Thanks for sharing
Me too. I've listened to this about a hundred times, and every single time I listen, it gets better! Plus, I'm a total sucker for the Petersens' vocal harmonies, yet there's not one note of vocal harmony in this! Something about this song makes it perfect forJulianne's unique voice, and the musicianship of the rest of the band here is just stellar.
This is one of the finest version of this superb song that I have ever heard--and I am old and have heard a lot of them! John Hartford is dancing in heaven!
*LYRICS - Gentle On My Mind*
------------
It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And keeps you ever gentle on my mind
It’s not clingin' to the rocks
And ivy planted on their columns now that bind me
Or somethin' that somebody said
Because they thought we fit together walkin'
It’s just knowin' that the world will not be cursin' or forgivin'
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you’re movin' on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And for hours you’re just gentle on my mind
Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines
And the junkyards and the highways flow between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother
'Cause she turned and you were gone
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face
And the summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you
Walkin' on the back roads
By the rivers flowin' gentle on my mind
You dip your cup of soup back
From a gurglin' cracklin' cauldron in some train yard
Your beard a rustlin' coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across your face
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can
I pretend to hold you to myself and find
That you're waitin' from the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
Ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind

She sing from her heart when she sing ..she has a golden voices I agree
All three of the girls has golden voices
So glad I discovered y’all on TH-cam a month ago. Some of the most beautiful music out there
Glad you are enjoying it!
Pretty wild... I discovered them about a month ago too! My wife and I have a cabin near Branson and we're going to have to try and catch them next summer!
Yeah, finally a proper suggestion by YT, subscribed after watching(hearing) two clips lol
Matt Atkins Yeah TH-cam has opened up a great many talented musicians for me too 💁🏻♀️🇦🇺
I had just listened to two different versions of this great tune before I stumbled across this one, and it brought me to tears. I can imagine that this is exactly the way John Hartford would have wanted to hear it. Love Emmet's dobro.
Every time I listen to this young lady and her band sing and play this song, I feel better, they have helped me feel better about 50 times so far.
I feel better too.
Jeff Orr totally agree
And this young lady even stole the show back in 2011! Here is Julianne back then! th-cam.com/video/gLp-lLfPWZA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Petersens ... you're awesome ... John & Glenn your gift lives on
Has anyone else been binging on their music lately? Every time I think one sibling is the most talented I watch their next video and change my mind. LOL.
Covid 102-105 degree for 6-8 weeks... I don't know day it is, or even if it day or night.
You KNOW I gotta be binging on them, to maintain my sanity and remember what happiness used to be.
I'm confident that I'll live, but I've about a month of abject misery yet to endure.
You can only play the hand you're dealt. Play it wisely.
@@deanchampion6777 Best wishes, brother.
@@MarkWilsonMSW : I'm feeling much better. But being treated now for some serious liver thing. Ah, the fun never ends... LOL.
But now that I'm conscious again, time for some more Petersens.
I'm a "newbie" and I am blown away!!!!!
With every song I hear, my favorite member changes. A new dimension arises with every tune!
The three daughters, three wonderful and splendid voices
Bless the Petersens... Master Level! When big brother takes the dobro solo, I always tear up a touch.
He is GOOD! Wow
A day does not pass without me listening to this epic performance. It always makes me smile! Probably the most attractive family on the Planet
I cannot love this version of this classic song enough. I've been listening to it everyday for the past week-and-a-half. It's just...phenomenal and perfect.
No matter the sunshine...
...your smiles somehow shine even brighter! 😍
Love them for the last 3 years, all of them!
Julianne, you have one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard - You are Awesome - Love your Smile Thanks!!!
Thanks for the memories, kids (and mom!)...I believe Glen would have loved to hear your rendition...and maybe he just did! ;)
Jerry Glazener, Capt. USMC, ret...and still picking in Texas!
Captain, first of all thank you for your service to our great country.
I would like to refer you to John Hartford's version of this song if you haven't already heard it. He is the writer of the song and an immensely talented musician.
Blessings to you sir...
Thanks for serving!!
@@andronikostheophilos Read "The Pentagon Papers."
Not only is their mother an excellent musician but she seems very humble. Gotta love mothers!
Staying in the shadows so that the others get more of our attention.
John Hartford tells a great story about how he wrote this . He said he was a blue grass banjo picker in the cotton fields of southeast Missouri. He never wrote it as a pop song but here we are. The song has been very good to me.
I can't help but watching Ellen so off-the-charts proud of her little sister!!! Great Job Julianne!!! your voice is gold.
Something about that girl. She is electric. So great.
This group is so fantastic I will travel halfway across the world to hear them live
Love her voice.
Ever wake up in the morning during a shift in seasons and the fresh air stings your nostrils in the most delightful way? Yeah... This has the same sort of effect on my ears.
At the end of the day, I wind down listening to this great rendition, so eloquent, so gentle on my mind.
Innocence and purity still exists. Thank you Peterson family.
The love I see in this family, could make me weep.
I needed this! Watching this country fall is so sad....but there is hope - in people who love the Lord Jesus, like the Petersens.
The Petersens are a family in which music instead of blood flows through their veins. It is simply wonderful to be able to experience them as a musical family. Many thanks for that.
Can we talk about Matt's superb acoustic playing on this song? The entire intro with just him and Julianne is marvelous.
I wish I had had a loving family like this family. They can't take their eyes off each other. So much devotion and admiration.
This may be the most covered song in history, but no one has ever done it better. I'm glad they gave this young lady the lead on it!
When you raise your family right, when the seeds of good values are planted and nurtured, when the Lord is in your heart you get The Paterson’s. Their talent built through faith and hard work is a blessing to us all. Thanks for sharing
I'm listening again, just loving it more every time, musically brilliant Julianne perfect.
Something about this family and their music is so calming, especially after a hard day at work.
