There seems to be a popular sentiment the Illia is just going to walk through Volky. Maybe because Volk is getting up there in age combined with losing his last fight. I just don't think Illia can do anything that Volk hasn't seen or been in the cage with. Illia's a great fighter but Volk is just different, man. Takes care of himself, disciplined, works SUPER hard, studies and game plans, makes adjustments mid fight, has power, great technique, is tough as Fuggin nails, is dangerous anywhere, and his mental game is on point. Not saying Illia has no chance or can't win. Obviously in MMA anything can and will happen. Just hope Illia isn't overestimating himself or underestimating his opponent. Would rather see a great fight then a 1 sided beatdown
Volk's only weakness is his chin. He's literally the most well rounded fighter maybe ever

Volk is a perfect example of how effective mastering the basics is in mma and anything in life.
Sean strict land too but Volk isn’t very basic lol. Being good at 2 stances and constantly switching isn’t a basic fighting style. Not to mention his wrestling. So I don’t agree
I remember after a successful title defense, and he said basically, "There's nothing special about me, I put in the work." That quote always resonated with me and I try to apply that attitude to my own life
Volk's style is not even close to basic. I won't blame you though, I thought the same at first, but when you watch him closely, you can see how he has a unique style thats nightmare for taller opponents who can't kick well, Volk constantly switch stance, leg kicks from weird angles and finds different angles to jump towards his opponent with combinations or he counters it if his opponents comes to him. Only way to counter for tall opponents good kicking from distance and good wrestling. Yair could kick well but then Volk used his wrestling and Yair couldn't match Volk's superior grappling, Volk showed he is a very versatile fighter, not basic, not only striker he can also wrestle, he was called ''Hulk'' in Australia.
I won’t say basic but he definitely isn’t doing anything unnecessary, overly flashy or inefficient. Not relying on tricks either. I would just called it efficient, merciless and effective

Ilia will probably try to wrestle Yair as well. The blueprint is out there to beat Yair; wrestle and don't give him space to use his kicks on the feet, or to use his BJJ on the ground.

@@Robert399 He does have good wrestling yes. But I do question whether he can takedown Volk, let alone consistently because Volk's TDD has improved tenfold in recent years.
@@madgavin7568 I agree that's the way for him to win, although I do think that Ilia, the kind of person that he is, will spend the early minutes of the fight wanting to just strike with Yair because he'd probably want to beat him at his own game to prove he's better. If he fails to knock Yair out or when he feels like he's behind on the scorecards, then that's when he'll wrestle him.

I'm always so impressed with how active Volk is with his ground and pound. He floats himself over the opponent and raining down all types of shots. It's crazy how many people don't utilize ground and pound in a effective manner

Man I've always believed that Mighty Mouse has one of the best if not the best fighter IQ Volk, obviously right up there. If you two got together for like a video and trained / did a seminar, it would be absolutely legendary. I could only imagine the two best minds of mma getting together and having a fun spar, I felt similar to seeing MM training with Henry.

Ive always said, and will always say, volk lost the first 2 fights against max. He absolutely blew max out in the 3rd. Since that 3rd fight volk has done nothing but get better. He beat islam in the first fight. Got slept in the 2nd. But ilia better be half as good as he think he is, bcuz it will be a long night at the office if he isnt.

Yair has great round kicks but I think he was headhunting too much with them instead of establishing the body kick.
