In a Reddit thread they discuss this and it's not clear if kids can be killed or at what age they can be killed or when they can participate themselves. As someone who is an entertainer for children, this made me feel upset and hurt. Yes, it is for story wise and I am not blaming the writers or crew, I am upset about the in depth universe of The Purge and with this teacher. Yes, feelings are difficult to manage at times, especially bad feelings. At the same time there are healthy ways to express and communicate and even deal with these issues in ways that don’t hurt other people or ourselves. This teacher was using tactics and even lessons that are very similar to what Mister Rogers educated and turned them into negativity and it just hurts.
For me, the Purge rlly has explored the depths of human emotions and the raw emotions we feel to expel these negative feelings in the worse way possible that, let’s face it, all of us may have in us(or not, personally I’m not comfortable with the concept of the purge if it were real) But honestly if it really does affect a lot of ppl or something, it shows how a good movie it is or at least how well it can affect someone

The first film established a level system for citizens with senior citizens, children and elected officials not approved for the Purge. However this went away in Purge Election Year as part of the governments plan to assassinate a politician running for president. Ultimately didn't matter as society broke down the following year with the forever Purge incident.
